NAILED DRESSER
Nailed Dresser was crafted by Bibbings & Hensby. Whilst mudlarking on the foreshore of the River Thames, the duo found several hand forged nails, which prompted their research into historic forms of nailed furniture. The dresser is made to house and display ceramic pieces, gathered and curated over time, and forms part of a new range of furniture. The spirit of simplicity and functional craftsmanship that characterise this traditional vernacular furniture are embodied within the design. Made exclusively with historically faithful nails hand forged by a traditional blacksmith, and without glue or complex joinery, the dresser explores the possibilities for the humble nail in contemporary handmade furniture. Scratch lines can be seen all over the furniture, a traditional way to line up nails in vernacular furniture and a further example of the makers commitment to celebrate authentic methods in this piece. WELCOME DINING TABLE

Welcome Dining Table designed by Matthew Raw is part of The New Craftsmen’s ‘Claylarks’ collection. Drawing inspiration from building facades and historical surface application of tiled buildings, the 8-seater dining table is an evolution of the ceramicists Welcome cabinet range. The Welcome Dining Table has a solid oak top with two fully tiled cylindrical columns at the base, finished with two inlaid circular tiled areas on the surface, as though the columns emerge through the timber top. The hand-built tiles used on the table are the same proportion as the welcome range and come in a range of custom glazes, suitable for the top. Matthew has collaborated with two different craftspeople to product the forms on which he then applies his handmade tiles. Whilst Mudlarking on the River Thames, Matthew was fascinated by the pottery sherds that had washed up on the foreshore. He took inspiration from the sherds and their varied hues in creating the glaze for this table. Dimensions: W: 230cm D: 93cm H: 75cm W: 90.6in D: 36.6in H: 29.5in

MIDWINTER MIRROR

Midwinter Mirror by Laura Carlin was inspired by Laura’s residency at Holkham Hall facilitated by The New Craftsmen and Laura’s first foray into translating her work into metal. During a residency on the Estate, Laura found breathtaking the abundance of wildlife, birds and animals. The increase in birds is perhaps the most spectacular change in the ebb and flow of Holkham’s wildlife and so Laura sought to capture the busy yet serene scene of birds nesting, bathing and feeding around the water’s edge. Suspended in cast bronze, Laura has used the mirror to reflect the water and celebrate the birds living around it.

RICASSO HANDLES
The Ricasso Handle Collection by Aimee Betts was originally inspired by European sword handles at the Wallace Collection.
The collection has been reimagined with a new sleek design, including three woven and stitched variations and a broad range of leather colours.

Inspired by the tradition of off-loom weaving. Aimee‘s creative practice challenges textile thinking by applying her ideas onto unexpected threedimensional forms. These form part of a wider collection of interior products and lighting that Aimee has developed for The New Craftsmen, which articulate both the decorative and functional possibilities of stitching, braiding, knotting and weaving techniques.

KNAP LIGHT
Knap Light by Annemarie O’Sullivan is part of the ‘Plant Explorations’ collection, facilitated by The New Craftsmen. Annemarie found inspiration in the elegance and efficiency of Japanese craftsmanship and has created a light that contrasts an ordered wooden framework against the dynamic wildness of around 8,000 cane knots. The word ‘Knap’ is an old English word which refers to the ‘crest of a hill’ - a nod to Annemarie’s East Sussex surroundings and its landscape, which provides a constant source of inspiration. The Knap Light is a celebration of bundling and binding techniques and the repetition of knotting, while pushing the material into a dense mass to form a striking sculptural piece rich with layers of illumination. This light comes with an adjustable 3m drop of black tensile cable as standard, custom drops can be commissioned. It gives a warm white light through a parchment-coated diffuser and is dimmer- compatible

CLOVER LIGHT IN BLACK
The Clover Light in Black by designer and furniture maker, Alexander White, builds on the qualities of his sculptural Michael Cane Light. Furthering his exploration of layering rattan cane under light, Alexander set himself the challenge of condensing his ideas to create a more compact piece. Each part of the light is formed by rolling the cane webbing onto itself, then repeated to create the clover-like shape. Alexander’s clever exploration of three dimensionality makes this piece come to life with great elegance and simplicity. The light comes ready to be installed into mains power and includes a white-light based LED with driver. Options:

SUGAR CONE LIGHT IN HONEY
Sugar Cone Light in Honey by ceramicist Rich Miller. Rich has made this pendant light in response to the 18th century sugar industry and looks to his own cultural ancestry. Having found a sherd of a sugar cone while mudlarking on the foreshore of the River Thames, Rich became fully immersed in learning the history of these objects and the transatlantic triangular trade. The sugar industry created enormous wealth for Europe but at the expense of the exploitation of the workers, who were enslaved. At that time, sugar was sold in solid form, in cones made from pottery moulds. Rich has created forms which reflect the shape of these forms, in a colour palette referencing the innumerable sherds of pottery he found on the foreshore.

HADITHI FLOOR LAMP

HADITHI Floor Lamp by SASA Works is part of the ‘Plant Explorations’ collection, facilitated by The New Craftsmen. SASA works looked to spring time flowers and the enchanted realms of woodlands, which often symbolise purity, grace and healing. This piece was inspired by forms in nature, with an allusion to the idea of being ‘grown’ and not simply made. As with many forms in nature, this piece is created with an organic irregularity. Made from formed fabric dipped in ethically sourced beeswax, the light echoes many pendant flowers. Metal has been used to echo the delicate veins of the flower. When illuminated, the light produces a delicate warm glow with a warming beeswax and features a dabbled shadow effect, with the metal veins beneath, creating a beguiling atmosphere. The fabric cable brings a soft flow to the upstand like a delicate tendril. This sculptural and experiential piece welcomes a sense of enchantment into the home.

SOMA TABLE LAMPS
The Soma Table Lamps are an extension of the Soma Vessel collection by ceramicist Viv Lee. With these lamps, Viv continues her exploration of the materiality of clay and the metaphor of body as a vessel.

Inspired by surrealism and the biomorphic sculptures of Hans Jean Arp, Viv finds beauty in asymmetry and the irregularity of the human body, rather than seeking perfection in symmetrical forms. Viv approaches making as a means of connection to self and nature, appreciating the diversity of forms that emerge and embracing flaws; accepting them as the beautiful idiosyncrasies that make each lamp unique.
Each piece is fitted as standard with a UK plug, 3m beige flex and a round cream shade. An E27 bulb is recommended (not included). International wiring is available, please enquire for further details.
