As part of Vegreville Agricultural Society (VAS) Viterra Dash to Summer Event, an Open Horse Show was presented at Vegreville Agricultural Grounds on June 4 and 5.
VAS Office Manager Rachel Farr said the committee members for this event were: Daryl Cole, Stacey Cole and Russell Crowe. There were 57 entries from all age groups and 70 classes which included halter, Western riding, English riding and trail and jumping.
Winner of High Points from June 4 was Brooklyn Slobodian. The High Point Winners from June 5 were Lynn Johnston and Melissa Johnston.
Eleven-year-old Samantha Deroisiers, who lives on a farm just outside of Chipman, competed in this event. “I have been competing in horse shows for a couple of years now. I feel pretty good about being at this show because I like coming over here to have fun and to have my horse Santita have new experiences.
I ride my horse on a regular basis. I have actually been riding horses since I was two-monthsold. So, I feel right at home riding my horse and being at this show.”
Hannah Yuke had her two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Harper Lesoway participate in the horse show with their horse Dallas. When asked how she felt about her daughter participating, Hannah said,” I feel good about this as I grew up always loving horses. So, I am excited that she has the same interest in horses that I do. She’s never competed before but I think she will be good at it. She has been riding horses for a good six months now. So, I am pretty confident that she will do well at it.
For myself, this will be my first time showing my horse but I have been riding horses for about 10 years now. I like riding horses because it gives me a chance to have a nice and close bond with them.”
