Mundare town councillor Eddie Shepel resigned his position on June 13, nearly eight months after being elected.

Shepel’s letter, addressed and distributed to CAO Colin Zyla, and fellow council members, stated, “Please accept this email as my formal resignation from town council, effective immediately.

After carefully reviewing the sequence of events over the last few days to tonight, I have decided that I no longer want to be a part of council going forward.

Although I may not agree with how things have unfolded recently, I wish everyone well going forward.”

Zyla said, “A by-election must be held within 120 days of the resignation. Nomination day is four weeks before the election and there is a two week advertising requirement for nomination day. Council

must also appoint a returning officer and a substitute returning officer. Council must decide if it is necessary to have an advance vote.”

A motion was passed to hold a by-election in September. Zyla was appointed Returning Officer and Lisa Euchuk was appointed substitute Returning Officer.
