The issue on the burial of former President Marcos in the Libingan ng mga Bayani has set the stage for the discussion of historical revisionism. Sans the technical and legal aspects of his burial, the debate must be viewed upon with a historical perspective; as such, an objective and accurate record of history is necessary, and historical revisionism becomes a problem. Reliable sources of history are aplenty, such as the works of our national historians Agoncillo, Zaide, Joaquin, and Ocampo. However, there still seem to be a lack of foundation in history for most of the general public, presenting an easy target to the hounds of historical revisionism. Perhaps, the root of this problem could be traced back to how history is being taught in our homes and schools. History is a rare topic at home for most of us, and history classes in school give priority to memorizing names, dates, and places. It is as if knowing when Marcos proclaimed martial law gives even a little insight on how many Filipinos’ lives suffered right after that fateful day. Instead of jamming these trivial facts down our throats, a critical discussion of the implications of historical events and the lessons that may be gleaned from them, the true essence of history, must be the center of each 60-minute class. Society needs itself to be steered by citizens armed with a strong sense of history. Alec Benjamin G. Ramirez | Online Editor 16-17 | The essence of history
Love is in the air. I… I really can’t contain my happiness right now. My heart beats so fast. The adrenaline keeps pulsing through my veins and running through my brain. And it keeps me so damn alive. Yes, I will never forget the time when one of the support staff made me stay for about 30 minutes in the Dean’s office to wait for the supposed-to-be-signed excuse letter by the dean. After half an hour of roaming around the office, chatting with the other faculty and staff and checking some documents, she shook his head, scratched it a lot and asked, “Wait… What was that again? Were you asking for the letter a while ago?” Of course, I waited for nothing and just wasted my time sitting there. I will never forget the dumb expression on her face. Oh, yeah. I didn’t ask for it. How would I ask for something that was already gone? Imagine asking lost things to someone who is also lost. Ang daming #Paasa. Perhaps, the paper left the office while crying, because the place was disorganized and most of the support staff just don’t care at all. It is a good thing a well-functioning air conditioner exists in the office unlike our classrooms with poor ventilation, for I managed to control my temper. Period. Caryl J. Sapepe | Feature Editor 16-17 | #Paasa
After enduring the foul odor, the swimming pools and discomfort of our comfort rooms, Norsunians, finally, our CRs are at par with that of a state university’s comfort rooms! Let us commend the university for their efforts and undying support in times we battle with the call of Mother Nature. Our university really knows well and caters all our needs. (Insert smiley.) Now that we already have our newly renovated CRs, as primary stakeholders and source of fund of the school, we are expected to treat the faucets and knobs like these are the most fragile things on earth! Maulaw unta ta sa gataod, tulo ka bulan biya nilang trinabaho ana. We must make sure we push the flush hard to make sure we flushed it completely. The university has abundant supply of water, enough to make swimming pools on CR floors and wash our dirty clothes. If these will be destroyed, shame to the school for giving us substandard facilities. Where did our money go? Also, keeping the floors clean, thou shall not set thy dirty feet on our comfort rooms. Aw, kita nay makahibalog unsaon na nato na pag-CR. Bright man tang tanan, makasabot ra pud dagay tag simple instructions. And also, college students na man pud ta, wala na pud dagay magwiris wiris aning mga shining, shimmering, splendid natong mga bongbong? Unless naay kinder nga na-enroll dinhi. Oops. Let us take care of what has been given to us. We are not the only persons studying in this university. Let us be considerate. Magpakabana ta. Maria Dominique P. It has always been politics. From the tip of your own constitutionality to the way you fight for a slice of cake; it has always been about politics, of having your own sugar and spice, of doing that rant on social media, and on talking rash about something that hits you. I was half surprised, with the recent political conflict of our country. With the always freshly made spicy verbal wars and hot rebuttals, it has been serving a sting of a bartendered thrill, suspense, horror, and comedy. You just have to sit and relax and wait for the climax, or spot the loopholes and mistakes that puzzle up the web of lies. That is the scenario, and we are loving it. The thing is, whether we like it or not, we are part of the show because we share the same roof, and we have to take part of it. We have to accept the fact that what happens to our country is nonetheless a saddening circumstance, and solutions are yet to claim the toll. With the pool of fools and jack of all trades, who wins will reign, regardless of equality and power. And that was it. Indeed, the Philippines has always been up to something political, and simply stated, people are and always will be adamant in knowing what is going on, regardless of who are involved because they will be affected, hit, and made to conclude things according to what was served. Will this end? I don’t know. One thing is for sure, we will stand amidst everything, because we are one people, one nation, with a serving of a cup of political spice.

Experience a mind-blowing adventure, not outdoors but indoors. As part of the pub’s income generating project to survive constitutionally, The NOISYnian has come up with the initiative to sponsor NORSU’s Film Festival for the upcoming 41st edition of the university’s Founding Anniversary celebration on November 27-December 4, 2016. From the 31 entries, 10 were chosen for the festival. Here are the worth-watching movies you should not miss. So, what are you waiting for? Tickets are available at the TN office. But, we might actually be out running without an office so tickets are for free.

The next 353 words or so will be the dullest and most boring set of sentences who you would have ever read in your equally dull and boring existence. And that’s exactly how I would describe my life too—if I were not a public school teacher. I’m a mass communication graduate, and for four years after graduation, I have worked as a grammar editor correcting American novels. One day, I bent down to pick a peso from a fading pedestrian lane and got hit by a school bus—and that’s when I caught the bright idea to become a teacher. Teaching units. Board exam. Ranking. Oh, did I mention that I almost died during the ranking for teachers? It’s real-life Game of Thrones out there, I tell you. If you think you have it worst, try applying as a public school teacher. But if you value your life, no matter how insignificant it may be, then don’t even think about it. Teaching is not for the faint of heart. Teaching is no cotton candy and flowers and rainbows and cupcakes. Teaching is bloodbath and hardcore and rocks and avocados. Now here I am—a pioneering senior high school teacher in a far-off place where cell phone signal and Internet connection are myths. I got a good head on my shoulders, but whenever I get inside my air-laps classroom, one thing comes to mind: I have no idea what I’m doing. And it doesn’t help when my students treat me like this mystical Pokémon from the city that came to the hinterlands with his “slang” English, breathing metaphors and wreaking commas and subject-and-verb agreement to their serene and mundane lives. I thought I was Ash Ketchum, the very best trainer and hero to save the day, but no, I’m practically Team Rocket, blown up every episode. Oh, for four months working since June, I haven’t got a single blind peso for my salary yet. Fun, yeah? I guess the moral of this article is, don’t pick anything you see in the streets. Always look straight, left, and right when crossing the road. But if you are a daredevil (and more likely psychologically disturbed), look down, pick that peso, and go for teaching! Kenneth B. Pael | Editor-in-Chief 11-12 | Find the Difference: Teaching and Suicide
I dare you. Arrest him who has killed a thousand, probably more. This killer has claimed more lives than anyone could imagine. The horror in the crime scene isn’t child’s play—the shattered pieces of glass, the blood-soaked shirts, and the gory innards littering around like dog puke. The twist in this arrest, however, is that he will never plead guilty because he never did it in the first place. He was framed. He was put there to materialize the death of these breathing souls. I have been a witness to a couple of his successful (and sometimes failed) attempts. Sadly, I cannot stand before a court and testify against him because I, for one, would say he did not do it. But then again, he did it. I cannot also give you a detailed feature of what this killer looks like, but I have seen how murderous he can get. I have always been reminded of how I became a believer years back when he showed me what he was capable of. For the innumerable days and nights that I have exposed myself to the possibility of him exploiting my own safety, I knew he can only get better and better at what he does, although he doesn’t really do it. Let me clear the air. A month ago, during one of those tiring nights wherein only the comforts of a bus seat could cure my yearning for sleep, I saw the remains of a performance only he can do best. A few kilometers from home, the bus I was in suddenly came to a halt. The driver sought for someone to ask what happened. The rest of the passengers started humming an indiscriminate sound. “Patay gyud!”, “Dili na mabuhi ng ingon-ana.” I looked out from the window and was very careful at what I wanted to see. Unfortunately, I saw what I needed to see—four wrecked motorcycles lying in dead silence, pieces of broken glasses and a river of fresh blood. A rotten stench entered our noses without any consent. There were people everywhere, but I saw no help from them. The killer was also there, but no one even noticed him. None from the police authorities interviewed him. How could the people give him the attention he deserves when no one even knew he did the crime? But he did not do it, and that he will insist. No one will also blame him of such morbid crime even if the people were told of his involvement

There are myriad of issues arising in our country today and among these issues is the never-ending Bangsamoro Peace Process. One must stop pretending he or she knows what happens when BBL will be passed. They may know the bill’s purpose which is to establish a separate state for the Muslim people, yet some aren’t really aware of its underlying actions and principles. Personally, I cannot blame the Muslims if they want to be separated from the corrupt government system of our country. For some reasons, they believe they will be better off without the control of the central government. Perhaps, having their own government is having the official power to handle things and progress at their own pace and way. Also, the BBL will have no prejudice to the power of the government agency thus allowing the Philippine government to interfere with the affairs of the Bangsamoro if necessary. On the other hand, if BBL will be pursued, first, there will be a possibility of losing national cooperation and coordination given that our government policies will be different from theirs. Second, we are already aware that the Muslims had their own share of corruption especially with the continuous existence of some political dynasties, so there will be a great opportunity for them to abuse the funds subsidized by the government from our taxes. Finally, BBL Article II, Section 3, which states that “the Bangsamoro Parliament shall adopt the official flag, emblem and anthem of the Bangsamoro,” is unconstitutional. Being an autonomous government entity may be constitutional and acceptable but creating their own flag is a step ahead towards creating a sub-state within our country. As of the press time, Duterte’s administration has showed ambiguous support for the BBL. For so many decades, the Philippine government has remained very transparent with their initiated peace talks to raging all-out-war against the insurgents in the past. But, isn’t it depressing to have witnessed and possibly witness another loss of lives? I myself, is still confused whether I am a pro or anti on this bill. Yet there’s one thing I look forward to. Whether BBL will be passed or some parts of the constitution shall be amended to agree with it, all I ever wanted to achieve in the end is peace for everyone. Let us all hope and pray for the best. As what our Muslim brothers would say to express extreme emotions-- “Allahu Akbar!” (God is great!). Joeylen dela Cruz | Editor-in-Chief 14-15 | All we ask for is peace
The movie reveals the next terrifying chapter that occurs over 12 hours of annual lawlessness sanctioned by President Berdugo Dudirty to keep the Philippines great. The Purge night is an annual ritual that targets not only criminals but also the poor and innocent. With no help available, all Filipinos must stay alive until dawn or be sacrificed for their sins against the state.
The Secret Life of Teachers The action comedy is set in Hotel Passencia. The faculty teachers from the different campuses gather to start their day, which consists of trading humiliating stories about their students in class and sharing tips on how not to have regular classes with no deduction of salaries and bonuses. Also, they plot on abolishing the frustrating “no collection” policy that hinders their student-friendly activities inside and outside the university. The teachers must conclude a better plan for the students’ benefit and be back on time for their night classes.

These carefree and simpleminded young people, who even dragged an innocent into the scene, definitely had more than enough experience to teach themselves about road safety. But they did not heed to these teachings. They neither acknowledged the presence of the wisdom of the road nor the enormity of lessons they can get from the killer himself. They had put themselves into that very fine line between life and death. He, the Road, (yes, the killer) therefore taught them that night that they were not invincible, that they were not kings, and definitely not gods. On that night when they thought they had the best time of their lives, there he was, the killer, lurking silently and patiently. He never wanted anyone to have an accident and blame it on him, much more deaths. But he cannot do anything about it. He was there to watch, wait and count how many more will be killed, not by his doing but by man’s own reckless imprudence. If he will be forced to face a judge and made to explain about the death toll, the Road would plead himself not guilty. He did not do anything. He wasn’t created to kill. He was created to become Wisdom’s ally. And if men would take the wisdom of the road for granted, he shall surely collect more dead bodies in the future. To modernize the university’s information system, Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) will provide each student with iPhone 7s starting next semester of non academic school year 2016-2017. In partnership with Apple Technology Company, University President Jewel Limtanon confirmed in an interview the released iPhone 7s stores all the curriculum and subjects the student enrolled in. Limtanon believes these help students be participative in class and by just turning from one page to the other in just one touch, it consumes less effort and saves time. Concerned about the students’ welfare, Apple CEO Tim Cook explained there is no harm in using these iPhone 7s at school because Apple Inc. had set these phone-books exclusively for school purposes only. This means there is no way for students to access to non-school related matters.(IS

In order to make use of the student publication after shut down, The NOISYnian (TN) is now assigned by the Bored of Regents (BOR) the production of weekly test papers following the collection of Php 200. The NOISYnian (TN) Fransisko Ignacio Hui disclosed due to the exhaustion of funds, the publication decided to stop the printing and circulation of newspapers. “As of now, the remaining budget for the publication could not suffice this administration’s activities. Napareho na jud diay mi sa Pay-Loan,” he said. “Wala naman mi mahimo. The publication is already assigned to the production of weekly test papers not only because of TN’s abolishment, but because of SupSupply Office’s snail-like services. So this means nga weekly na pud ang mga major exams,” he furthered. University President Jewel Limtanon said the publishing of weekly test papers would not only utilize TN’s equipment, but also help his “beloved students” for a more efficient learning. Mass Communication Student Luz Paron expressed her dismay. She said, “Nah. Tungod baya sa TN kay nakabalo ko unsay mga panghitabo sa NORSU. Abolished na diay? Pila ra gud nang dos para sa test papers, unya Php 200 pa jud?” Marie Fe Ang, a Pharmacy student opposed on the halt of the production of newspapers. “Mao nalang gani among medium haron ma-update pud mi sa mga panghitabo sa eskuwelahan unya undangon na? We must make our step for the recollection of the student publication fee,” Ang said. BS Chemistry student Cora Tan stated even if she does not often read the papers, she agrees TN must continue with their services and write for the students instead of producing test papers. “We are willing to pay for our test papers, dili na kailangan nga wala-on pa ang TN tungod ra anang gamay nga butang. And weekly exams? Are they serious? Lisod naman gani ang mga gagmay ra nga quiz, major exams pa kaha? The students would rather have weekly published newspapers,” Tan added. Moreover, Hui said this issue will be the last. The production of weekly test papers for weekly exams would be effective this second semester.(DT MACABALI)

As a response to the continuous threats of terrorism within the country, Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) installs new security system to ensure the safety and wellness of students on October 1. According to University Student Style Management Office (USSMO) Director Rosana Abeleon, faculty and students’ information were downloaded into the system prior to installation, “to ensure that the persons who enter the premises are bona fide part of NORSU.” Donated by the Center Intelligent Agency (CIA), the security system includes three retina and identification card scanners that are placed by the gates, “may nang pagsulod, makita dayon kon kinsay outsider,” Abeleon said.
