VP Dayot assumes position as OIC NORSU

gets 37.43% in LET

Due to the preventive suspension of University President Don Vicente C. Real, Vice President for Administration, Planning and Development Peter T. Dayot assumed the responsibility as Officerin-Charge after being designated by the Board of Regents (BOR) through BOR Resolution No. 101, series of 2014. The BOR Resolution No. 101 was an enactment of Commission on Higher Education Special Order (CSO) No. 84, series of 2014 signed by CHED Chairperson Patricia B. Licuanan which was approved by CHED Commissioner Chair and Presiding Officer Minella C. Alarcon As stated in the order, “Pursuant to the pertinent provision of Republic Act No. 8292, otherwise known as the “Higher Education Modernization Act of 1997” Article VII, Section 30 of its Implementing Rules and Regulations, and in exigency of the service and due to the preventive suspension of Dr. Don Vicente C. Real, Dr. Peter T. Dayot is hereby designated as OIC, Office of the President, NORSU, effective immediately until this designation is sooner revoked.” Responsibility as OIC The CSO stated that Dayot is hereby directed to discharge all the day-to-day routinary duties and responsibilities of the Office of the University President, and shall be entitled to emoluments, allowances and other benefits allowed by law and which are applicable to the said position, except the basic salary thereof.

With 37.43% passing rate, Negros Oriental State University (NORSU) system has registered a total of 524 passers from the conducted Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) last August 17, 2014.

Moreover, the OIC is required to render reports to the BOR on actions taken in the performance of his duties, and shall endeavor at all times to maintain the stability and regularity of the academic and administrative operation of the university. The CSO added, in case these [duties and responsibilities] exceed routinary activities, the same should be endorsed to the BOR for approval. To note, a majority of seven members from the BOR signed the Resolution No. 101 that was issued

last October 3, 2014 at the Higher Education Development Center, C.P. Garcia Avenue, U.P. Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines. According to Dayot he will proceed with the designation of BOR as OIC. “Business as usual… going ahead with the approved plan and activities in accordance with the policies of the university promulgated by the Board of Regents.” “I can assure them that they [Norsunians] will enjoy the freedom of the press.” Dayot furthered.

The results showed that 360 elementary and 164 secondary teachers out of the 1, 400 hopeful takers from the entire system of NORSU have passed the board exam. From the elementary level, there were about 92 education graduates from NORSU Guihulngan City, 91 from NORSU Bayawan-Sta. Catalina, 83 from NORSU Dumaguete City Main Campus I, 54 from NORSU Bais and 40 from NORSU Siaton who passed the August L.E.T posting 47.94% rate. Meanwhile, the passing average of 25.27% for the entire secondary level comprised the 62 education graduates from NORSU Main Campus I, 38 from Bayawan-Sta. Catalina, 31 from NORSU Bais 20 from NORSU Guihulngan City and 13 from NORSU Siaton. As recorded, this year’s passing rate is 2. 83% lower compared to last year’s 40.26% system wide percentage. Moreover, for the entire country, a total of 25,301 elementary teachers out of 70,786 examinees passed with 35.74% passing rate and 26,767 secondary teachers out of 77,803 takers succeed having 34.40% ratings from the August LET as released by the Professional Regulation Commission and the Board of Professional Teachers. Psych dep’t prepares seniors for 1st PBLE 8 Accy grads pass CPALE By Dayanara G. Villalon The Psychology D epa r t m en t o f N e g r o s Oriental State University is now preparing the graduating students of Bachelor of Science in Psychology (BSP) for the firstever Psychometrician Board Licensure Examination (PBLE). The imposition of PBLE is related to the provision of Republic Act No. 10029 or known as The Psychology Law of the Psychological Association of the Philippines. Written under the said law was the regulation of the practice of psychology and

psychometrics in the country. In addition, the act also entailed the implementation of board exam which will nurture competent, upright and assiduous psychologists whose standards of professional practice are excellent and globally competitive and also, protect the public from inexperienced or untrained individuals offering psychological services. Department of Psychology Head Chizanne Sarabia-Ridad said the professors in NORSU Psychology department are equipped with knowledge, skills

and abilities who could be of great help in the preparation of the students for the PBLE. “We need to be keen in teaching,” she emphasized. Aside from that, Ridad said they give full attention on subjects that might be present in the board exam. She furthered that the Psych department is in the system of selective student retention. “We are on the process of entertaining selective student retention due to the future licensing exam,” she said. Aside from the official bus of NORSU, a newly repaired bus will assist its transportation services as it was blessed by the University Chaplain Rev. Fr. Alfredo Bonocan, Jr. on October 30 at the open court. The restoration of the old university bus with Vehicle SEY 246 Nissan model was part of the developing management initiative of the University Supply Office headed by Glenn Lumjod. According to Administrative Aide III Alan Navaja, the facility should have been repaired several years ago but because of Sojor’s resignation, it was not given much attention. “Karon ra nga year na-repair ang bus,” he mentioned disclosing as well

Eight Bachelor of Science in Accountancy graduates of NORSU pass the October 2014 Certified Public Account Licensure Examination (CPALE) set by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC). The new CPALE p assers are Mae Ann Caroro, Ariel Guadalquiver, Girlie Joy Faburada, Reynaldo Labayen, Mary Jane Naparota, Mary Rose Ortega, Leo Salvador, and Vivigrace Viernes recording a 47.09% passing rate for NORSU. Mae Ann Caroro, a graduate of BS Accountancy who fortunately passed the CPALE said she cried upon knowing the result of the

exam. “Nakahilak jud ko and I’m so grateful ni God. However dili ko absolutely happy kay I was expecting nga 100% ang makapasar sa among batch but I think God has a better plan for us,” she said. Another CPA, Leo Salvador said he was not expecting that he will pass because the exam was extremely difficult considering that the October CPALE was given by a new set of Board of Accountancy (BOA) members. He said, “Lisod kaayo ang exam.
