Elisabeth Linton is not interested in personal recognition

for the work she does as director of The Sanfilippo Children’s Research Foundation. But if shining the spotlight on the North York resident will help bring awareness to her foundation and a cure for her daughter, Elisa, who suffers from the disorder, Linton is more than

happy for the attention. The mother of three is one of 20 finalists for Walmart’s Mom of the Year Award. “I was quite humbled and very surprised,” Linton said. “A neighbour and a friend nominated me, and I had to choose between the two (to be

the official nominator). I went with the friend because she had the more accurate write-up.” Linton was also nominated last year, but didn’t make it through to where she is now, she said. The contest started last year >>>AWARD, page 2

A three-year-old North York girl with severe disabilities won’t get the therapy she desperately needs in Chile this fall after a fundraising campaign for her fell far short of its goal. But Mia Somogyi’s mother, Andrea Toth, is thrilled with the support her daughter has received and is vowing to continue raising money so the family can travel to the South American country next spring for Mia’s treatment. “Every little bit helps and we are very grateful for the people who donated and believe in Mia,” said Toth, whose campaign raised less than four per cent of its goal. “I’m not disappointed. I’m actually happy.” Toth and her husband, Janos Somogyi, launched a fundraising campaign on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo with hopes of raising $32,000. >>>PARENTS, page 8
