opened the first Continental Noodles location at St. Clair Avenue and Dufferin Street. Having moved to Toronto in 1952 – “with Christopher Columbus, I came here” he joked – he found there was no traditional Italian food in Toronto and sought to remedy
this. “There were a lot of ItalianCanadians looking for something to eat that was familiar to them,” said Franco’s granddaughter, Sarah Liberatore, who has followed her grandfather and her father, Vincent, in joining the family business.
When Continental Noodles opened, becoming the city’s first pastaio, or fresh pasta maker, there was some confusion over the company’s method. “They gave me a lot of trouble when I was opening up my stores,” Franco said. “We make pasta with eggs and they said, ‘We never use eggs >>>CUSTOMERS, page 8
