Sheppard subway westward extension a priority for council
tues may 14, 2013 ®
DOUBLE BLESSING
DAVID NICKLE dnickle@insidetoronto.com Three years after he was elected promising to persuade council to build a subway connection along Sheppard Avenue between Downsview station and Yonge-Sheppard, York West Councillor James Pasternak can claim a kind of victory. During last week’s marathon debate on revenue tools to fund public transit expansion, Toronto Council endorsed Pasternak’s motion to request that the project be added to the list of priorities for public transit expansion in Metrolinx’s second phase of the provincial Big Move transit plan. Council voted 24-19 to support Pasternak, and while it doesn’t actually commit funding or a timeline for the project, it does provide a boost for a project that has had little advocacy at either the Toronto Transit Commission or Metrolinx itself. >>>PASTERNAK, page 11
