The North York Mirror is looking to recognize community members and grassroots level ‘heroes’ whose personal efforts, sacrifices or contributions have made a significant impact to a cause, a person or a group in our local community. The annual Urban Hero awards are for those individuals who stand out in a crowd because they have made a difference in our neighbourhoods. They’re also for groups and businesses that are committed to making our community a better place to live. Award recipients this year will be selected in a range of categories, which include arts and culture, business, community, environment, health and science, education and sports. The winners will be announced and the awards presented at a gala event in November. It’s easy to nominate an Urban Hero online at http:// northyork.urbanheroes.ca/ nominate/
