01 THE PENINSULAR OASIS Nominated PennDesign 700 Collection M.Arch Studio 502 Instructor: Joe MacDonalds Group work with: Huadong Lin Location: Anable Basin Fall 2020
As an artificial inlet of the East River located at the periphery of Queens, Anable Basin was home to numerous oil refineries and factories. Nowadays, Anable Basin is gradually being occupied by residential buildings. Thus, introducing the recycling center in front of the riverbank which has turned into a public’s front yard, instead of placing it in an industrial district that's normally afar from urban area, is a great opportunity to challenge the traditional characters of heavy industrial architecture, and encourage the public to engage into a traditionally undesirable environment. We wanted to demonstrate a possibility where the industrial process doesn’t have to
take its own land and be separated so afar from the city. Instead, it can stay close to people and interact with our daily life. Here we are predicting a scenario where the city gets so dense and the buildings that are traditionally not people friendly such as factories and power plants have to invade the urban areas. The solution we were looking for is to marry the industrial programs with public activities and celebrate the waste to energy progress. By putting the power plants on stage, people would be able to experience how much waste we produce in our daily life and witness the life cycle of garbage.

Merge & Intersection
Manufacturing Land
As the truck route merged with the pedestrian entry way, the intersection point becomes the communual space for exhibiting the unloading process of recycling items to public. Otherwise, visitors have direct access toward public recreational and educational program. Below the program, the public gathering place connected the south and north, which also lead the people toward the waterfront while enjoying the view across manhattan.
By exposing the recycing process, , visitors will review the quality of this contaminated chemical pond that look and smell much different than the surrounding, non-contaminated landscape, as indicating potential dangerous conditions at present but also as celebrating the transformation between nature and manufacture world.

02 THE TWO-FOLD STAND Nominated PennDesign 600 Collection M.Arch Studio 602 Instructor: Kutan Ayata Group work with: Alyssa Chen Location: Philadelphia Spring 2020
The intention of the project is to experiment the very related to component of water tower, but with different function. From the Becher Photography, the front half has a big top and multiple small concrete legs on the perimeter. The second half features the wood shingle and steel band on a cylinder volume. By hybridizing the two those two are the cloest to our pursuit, transfer to the program of our project, the big volume on the top would turned into the human space. The leg parts will functioned as Support, circulation, and diving program
Familiarity to a regular water tower, both in terms of material, height and ratio of top versus bottom. It is being very straightforward about a water tower typology gesture two contrastly different systems-big volume overiding the bottom. The top part provides space and has its legs pierce through the bottom part, and the bottom system (the stone part) serves for our main program “diving pool”. Window shape flows along the facade, and they have changing height along with the adjacent steel bands. Those mini openings on the

03 LIFE ON THE EDGE Old Grain Terminal Reformation to Residential COmmunity M.Arch Studio 601 Instructor: Ben Krone Location: Redhook, New York Fall 2019
The red hook grain terminal, an abandoned productive building, an urban relic with the skeleton, a nest for a new hope. While it’s function in production has faded away in process of urban renewal, it also created a new type of living environment for a birthing community. By applying a series of hanging apartment units and exposed circulation along the edge of terminal, both the inside community and outside visitors will have the view of the local harbor, New York skyline and inside events at same time, Which realize a new
lifestyle of Living on the edge, looking at the artage, and hearing from the stage. Besides the sightseeing, those hanging units also created the nested void space that become community gallery, and some excavated spaces between the units become the performing stage or the tool of containing and releasing the light. Thus the architectural publicness gets emphasized. The new time is inscribed into the old time.

Atrium Moment To create an exceptionally spacious, cathedral‐like central atrium filled with light, the galleries and the atrium space at the centre of the grain terminal have been carved from the silos’ dense cellular structure that packed the building. The light will penertrate from an overhead glass roof. This deconstruction proposal was aim to reimagine the Grain Silo Complex at Redhook Terminal’s Waterfront with an architectural intervention inspired by its own historic character, so that to explore the highest possible quality of exhibition space for both life and works inside.
Edge Living To maximze the figure of cylindrical silo and character of horizontal living, the main ciculation of each units will be extended along the edge of grain terminal. Meanwhile, the light will be able to access the living space throughout the partially opennings. The step condition also provides the opportunity of co-living with individual privacy and equivalent joyness,

05 SALINETORIUM UNI Competition Editor Choice M.Arch Studio 502 Group work with: Chia-Chia Liu, Alan Fan, Veronica Location: Adriatic Sea Summer 2019
Salinetorium is a museum park and factory island that uses both reverse osmosis and thermal desalination to self sustain itself and provide a space for learning about the life cycle potentials of salt, the importance fo water, and the importance of renewable versus non renewable energy. We saw potential in the resulting brine and salt from desalination to be used to create materials and resources that slowly turn the rig into a human habitat and later an extension of the proximate water. Desalination is the process of turning sea water into potable water. Key to this process is reverse osmosis, which involves forcing water through a membrane at high pressure, so salts are removed from the water. The salt in desalination bring the residual solution from the desalination process originates from the sea, and the discharge returns it to the source, often times in irresponsible and non sustainable ways.
The Adriatic Sea is low in salinity levels, making this stationary island a passive desaliantion station rather than an exploitative one. Saline Retrofit is meant to be built in parts, from the bottom up and in a slow timeline based on supply and demand of space. The oil rig will first use the existing lattices and structures to attched the salt bricks to. A manufacturing facility will be first built, then a museum and public terraces, and finally temporary housing villas will go on top. Over time, Salinetorium will inevitably decay, and salt will slowly return back to the Adriatic sea, leaving the oil rig as a host for natural ecosystems to grow.

2018 Spring - Glacier Ridge Metro Park Program
06 WORKING EXPERIENCE 2018 Spring - Glacier Ridge Metro Park Program Wood Playground facility Design & Construction, Columbus Ohio 2018 Summer - Intern at Tianhua Architecture Planning Ltd Qingpu Shopping Center, Shanghai 2019 Summer - Intern at Gensler, Shanghai Office Jinling Road Urban Renewal Project, Shanghai JW Marriott Hotel, Shanghai, Fengxian
“It’s really a one-stop shop for all things physical fitness” said by Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks Executive Director Tim Moloney. Glacier Ridge Metro Park Program was my first time design and construct something of such a scale, which features in the play area include ramps, towers, platforms, ladders and a zipline. The elements are constructed from cedar and designed to help kids become engaged and active outside in a non-traditional way. The playground is drafted in various schemes and subsequently adjust the design based on both neiborhood and school advisors. I have successfully gained first experience in producing construction drawings and documentations through Revit, and fully participate in the process of construction.
The second work experience was primarily in the design development phase of an urban renewal project, which located in the old city district in shanghai. As join in the middle of the process, it was a priceless experience in knowing the historical culture of the district and design within regulations. Through working in both rhino and SketchUp modeling across retail, residential, mixeduse individual blocks, and conceptual diagram for urban renewal process, this was great opportunity to gain experience in urban scale design, site research documentation, and renewal consideration. Overall, the working experience not only showed me the beauty of architecture practice, but also taught me the importance lesson of teamwork, schedual management, and leadership.
