The intention of the project is questioning the way of exhibition for museum-either containing objects inside a closed space for browsing or releasing the items toward more public viewport from the outside. Thus, there are three character has been determined through the materiality and interaction between the site and museum-Obtrusive (the reflective surface both interrupt and create view), Conspicuous (transparent element), and Obfuscation (transformation between refraction to reflection). As the phenomenon of the transmission of light through the double refraction. This optical property has created both ambiguity and translucent in viewing and understanding the antiques inside museum and museum itsef. Therefore, the faceted geometry and material transformation has been developed for new exhibition quality. As Adolf loos said, “Today we like to preserve ornament not the function of the object.” The polychromed surfaces can be seemed as the ornamentation but more as the process of the cultural collection. Within this contained space, antiques’ identity has been integrated into the museum through the reflection, refraction, and transparency. Therefore, the change of antiques also brought the new identity to the museum. The disturbed background combined with the image of antiques become a “total work of art”.

Schenk Woodman Pop-up Store Design competition (4th Prize) Collaborator: Yuhao Zhang Manayunk, PA Spring 2019
The geometry of the modules that make up this design, creates an opportunity for a less rigid, and more dynamic structure. The fabric modules are able to collapse completely flat and be manipulated on a case by case need; whether for a seat, shelter from the elements, or capturing just the right mood of light and shadow for a social-media worthy moment. It can be transported from site to site within all areas of the city, like other parking lots not in use, nestled between two residential areas, or on top of any rooftop in the area that can draw people to it.
Pop-up Store
The project builds off the concept of transformation and adaptation as a living, breathing entity. There is a lack of space within the residential area of the city for social and leisurely recreation, yet many unoccupied lots, parking lots and empty property that are not being put to use. With this intervention, we provide a chance for interaction and gathering to happen within those spaces and allow an ease of access for other parts of the city not often traveled, thereby increasing the circulation within the city.

Double House Urban Housing Duplex Selected into Knowlton Archive Professor: Zed Snyder Location: Hong Kong, China Fall 2016
Urban Housing Duplex
Today, efficient urban housing has become a large social issue. By not utilizing the spaces between existing buildings, these alleys fall into disuse, accrue waste, and may foster crime. By integrating these spaces into housing projects, the insular gaps may instead reinforce the communication between neighbors. To introduce sunlight while maintaining privacy, private spaces are levitated from the ground and tilted upwards, punctuated with skylights. The duplex’s two units are connected by a shared entryway and visual pathways connecting two gardens. Nonetheless, differences in elevation between the private space of two units ensures privacy.

Centuries ago, arches has been introduced as gate, bridge, and building support. Based on, artisians starts to add decorations on those arches to show owner’s dignity and status with characterized heaviness and solemnity. After ages of material exploration and practice, publics’ attention and aethestic have been lead toward the tall but “slim” design. To record this metamorphosis progress, types of arches have benn created to attract visitors both experience the culture and value of arches throughout history. As a modern art museum, could this be the opportunity to guide people to recall those past culture and realize what we have missed while pursuing the refreshment of the new substances and identity.

Location: Shanghai, Qingpu district Team work: Tianhua Wu Suo Summer 2018
Qingpu District Mixed-Use Development
The intention of thee project is o build a luxury busiess district, pleasant apartment environment, amd integrated community service. Through study the surrounding conditions at first, the basic transition system and viewport distribution have been established and included as the concern during the first stage design. Besides, many strips of canals have crossed over the field towards the site, which created the most featured “islands” ecological environment in local community. By mimic those nature elements, the design concept attempts to exhibit the dynamic sense and angular geometry to got integrate into the local ecological evironment. From the shape of caligraphy to the geometry design the transformation process have preserved the sense of softness, figural, and heaviness from the water and mountain. The waving texture on both living and business units also follow the sense of design and emphasize the feature of the community.

I still remember the market near my home, filled with smell of foods, crowded space, and the conversation between passersby in the Italian market. Using the module of the local residential market, this project aims to extend the intimate and vibrant atmosphere into the shifting community. Both the cantilevers and the incubated shops under the subtracted space provided the interactive opportunities for the existing and future residents. The use of wood and woven surface also emphasizes the sense of “touching within the market space.
