Bomb scare

A MAN who threatened to blow up the conservative Partido Popular political party headquarters in Palma has been sentenced.

The 23-year-old who pleaded guilty must pay a fine of €1,080, plus €2,000 to the PP, and costs for the emergency services called to the scene.

The man phoned 012 with a fake warning that there was a bomb at the PP headquarters in Palma.

In the seven minute conversation with the operator the man said the conservative party had ‘stolen a lot of money’ and that he was going to plant the bomb ‘so they don’t steal more’, the court heard. The threat caused a ‘large mobilisation’ of the National Police, bomb disposal officers and dog units.

The boat was searched last April while in Palma port by a combined task force consisting of agents from the Guardia Civil, US Department of Homeland Security and the FBI. It was found to be flying a Cook Islands flag and registered to a company in the British Virgin Islands which was administered by a law firm in Panama.
