Off-leash dog park raises concern Liberty Village Dog Owners Association hit a snag with nearby condo board HILARY CATON hcaton@insidetoronto.com

Bill Johnston Park is slated to be the new home of a dog off-leash area (DOLA), but not if a cluster
of condo board members can help it. The 50 Lynn Williams, 80 & 100 Western Battery Rd. condo board has let its residents know they’re against the pending
off-leash dog park and have circulated a bulletin stating “it’s very concerned about the many downsides” of the park as it listed 13 cons and only one pro.
“It (the bulletin) was pretty one-sided and it’s pretty clear where the board is coming from,” said Geoff Webb, the founder of the Liberty Village >>>CHANGING, page 13

Live in the heart of vibrant Parkdale! Large Edwardian home that has been fully renovated while maintaining its traditional character and charm. Features hardwood floors, stained-glass windows, a formal foyer with a 2-piece powder room, original woodwork, coffered ceilings, pocket doors, a modern kitchen (with highend stainless-steel appliances, granite counters, and ample storage), and a third floor master suite (with a 5-piece ensuite and dressing room). Steps to TTC, Queen Street W, trendy shops, restaurants, and more!
Budapest Park, located along the western waterfront, is getting a $200,000 facelift. But don’t worry, the big concrete dinosaurs that are currently in the park aren’t going anywhere. The improved park will feature benches on platforms, a sandbox, a new paved pathway and reformed and resurfaced play pads on the west side of the park, which will help with accessibility throughout the park. It will also have two new playground equipment: a pyramidshaped rope climber for the new junior to senior playground (for up to 12 years) and new swings – two buckets and one accessible seat. The existing wading pool, see-saw and spring equipment will also remain untouched. The City of Toronto is funding the improvements as part of its 2015 capital budget. Musician aims to strum her way back into TTC stations CNE auditions sees singer/songwriter Maryanne Epp try to earn a spot again this year
“
HILARY CATON hcaton@insidetoronto.com
I love the people and I love the acoustics. I love when nobody’s there and the sound is just slapping back at you. In some stations, like at Queen’s Park, just singing up the stairwell is an incredible experience. I love that.
W
hen Maryanne Epp steps on the stage with her purple guitar in hand she seems a bit shy, almost as if she’s having second thoughts about going up there in the first place. She’s auditioning for the second time for a spot with the 2015 TTC Subway Musicians during the opening weekend of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE). As she straps on her purple guitar and begins to strum the chords of Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For by U2, she finds her groove. She sings the first verse and her quiet confidence rises and a smile spreads across her face to the audience and panel of judges. It’s clear she wants to be there; what’s even clearer is the fact she looks like she belongs on the stage. Her persona transforms from shy and quiet to a booming voice with a sweet edge that embraces the stage with a visible desire to share her voice with people. “I’ve never wanted to sing so much as I do this time,” she said. “I’m getting older. I’ve had a few strokes and it just really makes you appreciate your gifts.” She first tried to be a subway musician three years ago and was able to secure one of the 75 spots available, and she’s hoping to do the same again this year. For Epp being a subway musician is like being a part of “the best club in the world.” “It’s just a really wonderful way to make a living,” she said. “I go out every day

and I get to cheer people up.” The auditions are a three-day event that happens every three years with more than 175 musicians vying for 75 spots. Epp first got involved three years ago when her fiancé, now husband, Mike, encouraged
her to audition. At the time she was just starting to get on her feet. Originally from Kitchener, Epp was homeless and running from an abusive relationship. “He was brutal and physically violent. The times I went to the police
station they told me I had nothing to report. So I just really felt like I had no protection in my own community (Kitchener),” she said. “There was psychological abuse and I just ran away because I didn’t know what else to do...I didn’t know how to protect myself.”
She’s come a long way since then. Epp was featured as one of the five homeless Torontonians in the Hot Docs film by Shelley Saywell called The Lowdown Tracks. “Since the doc came out in May, I’ve been going through some major learning curves and I’m adjusting to being a bigger person,” she told the Villager, adding her Kitchener community wasn’t the most welcoming neighbourhood at the time of filming. “I’m just adjusting to that kind of mentality. Nobody ever told me I was good (at singing or playing the guitar). I’m just starting to realize that I am.” At 58 years old, Epp is now in a stable relationship and lives in Riverdale with her husband who is a source of moral support, she said. “We’ve been together five years and we’re more stable than we’ve ever been,” she said. “It’s all I’ve been praying for since we got here.” Playing her guitar and singing in the subway has been Epp’s full-time gig for the past three years. It’s become a confidence
builder, as well as a tool to help her get over her stage fright, she said. She performs covers as well as her own material. By the time her three-year run is over, she has sung at 25 subway stations at all hours of the day. She said her favourite station to play is SheppardYonge because she’s always done the best there. But singing in the subway in general is what she likes most about the gig. “I love the people and I love the acoustics. I love when nobody’s there and the sound is just slapping back at you,” she said. “In some stations, like at Queen’s Park, just singing up the stairwell is an incredible experience. I love that.” As she wraps up her second song in her sevenminute set, an original called Reach Out, the crowd is bobbing their heads and tapping their feet to the beat. Some even gave an approving, “mmm” as she belts out some of her lyrics. Before she steps off the stage, she thanks the crowd and judges and has tears in her eyes. “I get what I give,” she said. “If I show up tuned up how I want to be – in the best frame of mind and do the uplifting I intend to do – performing is a beautiful experience.” Musicians who auditioned for this year’s TTC Subway competition will find out if they’ve been selected in the coming weeks.

T
hirty years ago this summer, Toronto lost its innocence when an eight-year-old girl named Nicole was abducted from her Etobicoke apartment building. Children didn’t walk to school alone anymore. Parents looked to strangers with suspicion and filled their kids’ heads with dire consequences if they dared roam carefree. The first Nicole’s Run took place last week to mark the anniversary of Nicole Morin’s long-unsolved missing child case. Though a tragic story itself, the event focused on the positive, offering an opportunity to fundraise for the Canadian Centre for Child Protection (CCCP) and a chance to keep Nicole’s case – and those of other missing children – top of mind in the hopes of generating new leads. 30 years, police insist hope our view stillAfter exists for answers. Shaun Narine, superintendent of Toronto Be proactive Police 22 Division, told Metroland Toronto: “As with any missin protecting Media ing child, you never stop looking.” The case remains open and your child police have been working nonstop since, trying to find some evidence that would help them solve the mystery. Tips are always welcome, no matter how seemingly insignificant or – perhaps by now, after all these years – fuzzy on detail they may be. Nicole’s Run also serves as a reminder that children shouldn’t be afraid, but instead should be taught to be vigilant about their own safety. Society is a much different place, it’s true, but as long as children and parents are educated, innocence need not be sacrificed. CCCP’s website www.missingkids.ca offers tips on child safety and points out that the traditional advice “don’t talk to strangers” is outdated and ineffective in reducing a child’s risk of abduction and victimization. It’s only in the rarest cases that children are abducted by strangers, and more often, child abductions are committed by people who are known to the child. Visit the site to learn more, including how to protect your child against offenders lurking on the internet. Teaching your children these safety tips in a fun way can make the difference between a child who fears the world, and one who stands confidently before it. Practice “what-if” scenarios and get your child’s friends involved. In honour of Nicole, her family and those families that continue to grieve the loss of their missing children, be proactive in protecting yours.

Reflecting on big strong jets at Billy Bishop Airport and its impact on city
A
fter having flown Porter Airlines for the first time this past weekend, there’s no doubt in my mind: Robert Deluce’s little airline flying out of the Billy Bishop Airport would benefit from a jet-sized runway. My trip to Boston and back ran late on both ends: going out, because the little turboprop Dash 8 that I was to leave on was laid up with mechanical problems at another airport, and Porter couldn’t wrangle another aircraft in time. And then I bumped again – voluntarily, having missed my connection – because the plane needed to shed some passengers for the wet runway. Weather made for another delay on the way back. Big strong jets in Porter’s fleet would be a benefit – at least a benefit to travellers
david nickle the city like me, trying desperately to keep their blood pressure in check as they miss connections and arrive home past bedtime. The question of what benefits – or more to the point impacts – jet aircraft will have on the city and its waterfront remain open. In 2014, Toronto council decided to keep those questions open, resisting pressure from Porter and PortsToronto (the new name for the Toronto Port Authority) to give a preliminary OK to start work on extending runways and removing the ban on jet aircraft. Council sent the supplicants back to the drawing board, asking for clarity on some details and demanding informa-
tion in new areas before continuing the conversation any further. The conversation will be coming up again this year and next – and is getting ready to start, as a pair of reports from Waterfront Toronto and PortsToronto offer a checklist of measures to apply to public consultation, public health and the environmental assessment of the jet aircraft option. It is quite a list – a litany really, which points to the flaws in the fast-and-loose process so far. It will be very interesting to see what council makes of the plan when it finally comes forward later this year. When that happens, it will more than likely come forward without the guidance of our mayor, who has a conflict of interest on the matter owing to his son’s employment at
the airport. That will leave a similarly-constituted council enjoying a similar level of autonomy to their predecessors in 2014, when former mayor Rob Ford was effectively out of the debate for different reasons. Assuming the proponents of the expansion take the time to get their ducks in a row, things could very easily tilt the other way. But late on Sunday night, riding the brand-new people mover back from the island through that justopened pedestrian tunnel, I couldn’t help but think that another solution to the Porter dilemma is much simpler, at least on a personal level: next time I fly to Boston, take a TTC bus to Pearson. There are plenty of jets to choose from there.

Designer Steve Wilson illustrates Turn Off That Light! HILARY CATON hcaton@insidetoronto.com Trinity Bellwoods resident Steve Wilson has created illustrations for three children’s books, including the soon-to-be released Turn Off That Light, but don’t call him an illustrator or an artist for that matter. “I don’t consider myself an artist or an illustrator or anything like that,” Wilson said. “I think of myself as a designer. If you’ve got a design-oriented mind you can do everything.” Wilson website boasts graphic design, photography, animation and illustrations. He currently works at Pyramid Attack as motion animator, however, his heart is in children’s books. “I love doing children’s books. I prefer to do them. It’s probably harder work than most people would think it is,” said the Queen Street and Bellwoods Avenue resident. “If you’ve never done illustrations you might look at chil-
dren’s books and say, ‘Man, anybody can do that.’ It’s fun to do, but it’s really hard work. A book can take anywhere from a month and a half to eight months for me.” His latest collaboration for Turn Off That Light! by John Crossingham is about a hedgehog that’s sleeping, but gets woken up by someone turning on the light. As it turns out, it’s you the reader keeping him awake with the turning of the pages. With comic-style speech bubbles, humour and word play, the book has an interactive touch. The sense of humour of the book was a big draw for Wilson because he likes to keep his drawings goodhumoured, he said, adding his design style is mainly character-based with a cartoonish flare. “I grew up with Mad Magazine so I always admired the drawing skills and the humour that went into it. So I don’t like getting serious with my drawings or my work, to

me that’s kind of boring,” he said. “There’s enough serious
stuff out there in this world, so if people can smile that’s
awesome. I think that’s part of the reason why I like the children’s book thing.” While working on this book, Crossingham gave Wilson a “loose doodle” of what he was thinking of when it came to the illustrations that was helpful, he said. However, he admitted the final product is far from what he originally sketched, but that’s the beauty of the process, he said. Having been a designer for 15 years, he has his own way of creating his work, and one of them is keeping it old school for the majority of the creative process. “I’m a very analog guy. I like having a tangible thing in the end. A lot of people just draw directly onto the computer, but I don’t like to work that way,” he said. “I like to sketch and draw with a pencil and pen first and then scan things in and use Photoshop for the colouring. I’d like to do all the colouring by hand, but it’s just not practical.”
Before doing animation and children’s books, Wilson graduated from the environmental design program at OCAD University and became an interior designer. He later decided that line of work just wasn’t for him. “My attention span was just too short for interior design stuff. There’d be projects that would take a year, year and a half and I just couldn’t handle that,” he said. “It’s like the first three weeks it’s a lot of creativity and sketching and designing floors plans and then after that it’s a year of paperwork. While I was doing all this paper work I was doodling, too.” The constant doodling pushed him to pursue illustration and graphic design. “Every kid draws, but not every adult continues drawing. I’m just one of those adults (who) did,” Wilson said.

ring on the tasty food combinations, the midway rides and the shopping – the 137th annual Canadian National Exhibition officially opened Friday. To kick things off at the opening ceremony, the 2015 CNE First Family cut the ribbon with Toronto Mayor John Tory. “It’s a great opportunity and it’s a great experience to be part of the opening ceremony,” said Patrick Eichenberg, a father of three who won the contest to be the first family into the CNE. “We’ve always loved the Ex and for our kids to experience it from this side is just fantastic.” Patrick, along with his wife Maria, two daughters Sydney 9, and Alana 7, and

son Samuel 4, not only got to be a part of the day’s festivities, but they also won
a trip for four to Cancun, Mexico for seven nights, $2,000 spending money,
four CNE Ride-All-Day Passes, $120 in food vouchers, CNE merchandise, a
two-night stay at the Westin Harbour Castle Toronto with limousine service to the CNE and the opportunity to be in the Mardi Gras parade that happens daily at the Ex. This will be the family’s first trip to Cancun. Patrick said when he first found out they won, he didn’t believe it. Maria had to tell him a few time as he tried to contain his excitement. As soon as Maria found out her family won, she immediately told the kids. “They were just cheering. They were so excited,” she said. “We were thrilled and they’ve had a blast so far. I mean right from the very start just going on the golf cart to get here was a thrill for them.” Maria started attending the CNE when she about six years old with her brother and parents. “I have such fond memories of the CNE and I’ve carried on the tradition with my own family,”
she said. Patrick began coming to the CNE as a teen and his favourite experience has always been the games at the midway. “For me it’s always been about the games,” he said, “I love games like Crown and Anchor, and we’re just introducing the kids to the good, fun games.” But of course, it wouldn’t be a complete trip to the CNE without indulging in some good eats. Both Patrick and Maria were looking forward to a Corrad’s S&M burger and the spaghetti and meatball burger. The kids said they were looking forward to the cotton candy and candy apples. “The first thing we’re going to do now that the ceremony is over is get something to eat,” said Patrick. “We’re starving.”

Changing location of dog park isn’t easy, says Layton >>>from page 1 Dog Owners Association, who was present at initial meetings regarding the DOLA. The proposed park is a strip of green space, which runs east-west along Western Battery Road, with the railway tracks on one side and condos and townhomes on the other. Only the west portion of this strip, about 98 metres, will be made into an off-leash area – from Pirandello Street to 125 Western Battery Rd. Webb, who has been in contact with board members said they’re not against the dog park in principle, just not the proposed location. “They’re perfectly happy if it goes anywhere else in Liberty Village,” Webb said. “Part of me is like I get that, but part of me is thinking, well you’re happy to hoist it on the townhouses or on King West or anywhere else as long as you don’t have to deal with it. It’s a bit disappointing.” Councillor Mike Layton said changing the location is
easier said than done. “There isn’t another location available. We’ve looked at other places in Liberty Village and if the suggestion is to move it all the way east, it will have a very similar impact,” Layton said. “Unfortunately the way Liberty Village was designed it didn’t include enough green space. The reason why we chose the west is because less of the park had taken shape and hadn’t been built up. This area also doesn’t have a lot of eyes on it. We went through the process and determined that this is the most appropriate location for it.” Layton said his office has been in touch with the condo board members to discuss their concerns, which fall around the potential for decreasing property value, noise, the removal of some green space, increased foot traffic and the potential for odours. “We do our best to accommodate everyone, but this is a resource that I have no

Condo board members from 50 Lynn Williams, 80 & 100 Western Battery Rd. are against the dog off-leash area for Bill Johnston Park.
doubt people in the building will appreciate and use,” Layton said. “It only stands to enhance the neighbourhood and make it a better place. We saw a need for a piece of infrastructure and we’re following through to make sure we can

deliver that.” When the DOLA was first proposed, Layton’s office sent out a survey via their website, e-newsletter and social media and had 76.5 per cent of respondents in favour of the park’s location. Both Webb and Layton
agree the area of the proposed park is largely already used by dog owners and was supposed to draw dog owners away from Liberty Village Park and to the DOLA instead. At this point, Webb said his concern is if the condo owners get their way, it maybe
a couple more years before Liberty Village residents see an off-leash dog park. “If we do decide we have to make a change based on the feedback of these buildings, we’re going to have to go back to Square 1. We’ll need to find a new location, draft new plans and have another round of community consultation. Who knows, it could be another two years before we see a community dog park,” Webb said. “We already have a lot of clashes between families and dog owners right now and between dog owners and non-dog owners (at Liberty Village Park). My concern is that’s going to become more and more escalated the longer we wait.” The condo board that represents 50 Lynn Williams, 80 & 100 Western Battery Rd did not return The Villager’s request for comment.

Toronto Zombie Walk is dead due to lack of funding Organizers hosting funeral and wake on Saturday HILARY CATON hcaton@insidetoronto.com A bullet has been put through the brain of the Toronto Zombie Walk & Halloween Parade as organizers have cancelled the popular undead event due to lack of funding. “We’ve been doing it for a dozen years and it’s sad, but it might be time to move onto new projects,” said Stefania Zanini, chief spokesperson for the volunteer-run event. The group lost about $10,000 in grants from various provincial tourism agencies and despite crowdfunding efforts, it just wasn’t enough to keep the event alive. “Not getting that grant just put our threshold of what we could handle as volunteers beyond our capabilities,” she said. “We already do a lot of fundraising, but this would be
a massive undertaking.” Zanini said she believes the reason why the walk didn’t receive funding this year is because “the funds just ran out.” The cost to run a successful Zombie Walk, Zanini told The Villager, is between $40,000 to $50,000, which covers the administrative costs such as road closures, city permits, insurance as well as payment for bands that show up to provide live entertainment. Last year the walk managed to corral 15,000 zombies to groan and moan down the streets of Toronto. “If that’s the way we end, that’s a beautiful way to end, with 15,000 people sharing a common interest and a walk,” Zanini said. Zanini still doesn’t know if the walk will return next year, should they get more funding and enough sponsors.
Staff file photo/Brian B. Bettencourt
Pam Sloan plays her part in the Bloods-N-Suds Zombie Car Wash held to raise funds for last year’s Toronto Zombie Walk. The walk is cancelled this year, but organizers are hosting a funeral and wake.
“There’s always a chance,” she said. If it does return she still wants to stay true to the event mandate to keep it a free event. “Most of the sponsors who want to come in, want
to charge money,” she said. “That’s why we’ve always gone with small sponsors who are really loyal and really wonderful about respecting our goal to create a free event.” To honour the cadavers that have swarmed the
streets of Toronto for the past 12 years in cringe-worthy zombie makeup and bloodsoaked attire, there will be a funeral and a wake for the event Aug. 29. “We’re hoping it will be a celebration and a reflection,” she said. The funeral will be held at The Royal Theatre, 608 College St., at noon. Zanini tried to host the funeral in Trinity Bellwoods Park, the original location of the zombie walk, but had issues with getting permits from the city. She said the city feared 15,000 zombies would show up at the park and that it wouldn’t be able to handle that kind of turn out. “It’s a valid concern and I understand their fear, but that won’t happen. Our zombies are pretty respectful,” she said. She said if the Zombie Walk is put to rest for good, the city will wholeheartedly miss the event because it brought people of all races and backgrounds together.
“What I saw, in my six years as a volunteer, was this creation of family, of 15,000 sharing a walk,” she said. “It was about diversity and inclusion that didn’t have to be religiously based or culturally based; it’s just a sharing a common theme. “The city will lose a lot because there aren’t that many events that are free and inclusive.” At the funeral, zombies will have a chance to contribute mementos of their favourite Zombie Walk memories to a time capsule. As a bonus thank you, the first 100 people to put something in the capsule will receive free entry into the Canadian National Exhibition where the wake will be held. Full Zombie attire is encouraged. “It’ll be a celebration of both life and death,” she said.

Park is expected to be finished construction this fall >>>from page 1 department said it is hoping to start and end construction in the fall. “It is ambitious, but we like to challenge ourselves,” said Peter Didiano, the supervisor of capital projects. “If everything goes well, we should have a contractor set up for early fall and start construction for September. It’s just the ordering of equipment that just takes time so
we typically don’t want to demolish a playground until we know exactly when the delivery of the new playground is going to be.” There was no formal community meeting about the changes. Didiano said it’s typically not necessary for a waterfront park as “it’s so far removed from the neighbourhood.” “This design and the improvements to this project has been
through consultation with our parks operation staff, who looked at it and decided what needed to be improved,” Didiano said. “In this case we went to the councillor (Gord Perks) and he agreed this was the best approach to the project. So what we did was have rendering done and they were posted on Perks’s website.” The park, located along Lake Shore Boulevard, south of Parkdale
and Roncesvalles Villages, was identified as in need of upgrades by the city as some pieces of playground equipment were no longer compliant with safety standards for playgrounds. Didiano also plans to address the build up of sand in the park by creating a buffer along the bottom of the chain-link fence in order to keep the sand out. He said he doesn’t forsee too
many challenges when it comes to completing this project on schedule, except one. “Anything that’s close to the lake presents challenges weather wise, but this is a pretty straightforward construction project,” he said. “We don’t see why this project can’t be completed this year.”

St. Joseph’s Health Centre’s CEO Elizabeth Buller said she is “thrilled” that the west end hospital will receive $2.1 million over the next two years for infrastructure upgrades. Through its Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF), the Ontario Government announced last week the investment of $2,181,758 that will enable St. Joe’s to make such critical improvements as roof replacements, new windows, upgraded heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and upgraded fire alarm systems, work that’s necessary under the Ontario Building Code and Ontario

Home safety tips for seniors Many seniors today enjoy the ability to live comfortably in their homes. With the right supports and assistance, such as the care provided through the Toronto Central Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), the elderly are able remain at home for as long as possible. While living at home is the desire of many seniors, doing so often comes with challenges. Healthrelated limitations as well as the very real possibility of injury have consequences for those who are of an advanced age. Fortunately, there are some simple things that can be done to decrease the possibility of injury or difficulty at home. 1. Good Lighting As we age, our eyesight often becomes compromised. Medical issues such as glaucoma and cataracts make it difficult to see as clearly as we once did. Seniors often have difficulty seeing in dim light, so make sure that your elderly loved one has adequately bright lighting in their homes. In doing so, you will decrease the likelihood of an unexpected fall or stumble. 2. Non-Slip Flooring While hardwood floors may look nice, they are a frequent cause of slips and falls by older people. As well, tiled or floors that are covered with throw rugs can also pose a safety hazard. To decrease the possibility of falls, make sure to install carpet or nonslip flooring. Also, consider the use of treads on stairs or
30 PEOPLE WITH HEARING LOSS Qualified Participants Needed for Technology Field Test
During this Limited-Time event, we are looking for people like you, who may be experiencing varying levels of hearing loss to evaluate a remarkable new line of digital hearing aids and a rehabilitative process that could be the solution to your difficulties. Call us toll-free today at one of the numbers below to see if you qualify for this Field Test. Potential candidates will be given a FREE hearing test to determine candidacy. Participants will be given a FREE in-office demonstration, and the opportunity to evaluate the latest, most advanced hearing aid technology for 30 days at drastically reduced rates. A refund* is available at the end of the test period if you feel your test aids do not improve your hearing. re t open-fit op A full range of sizes are available in this new technology, including the exceptionally disscreet and IIC models shown here:
Similar to choosing between contact lenses or glasses, you can decide with your hearing professional which hearing aid style would best suit you. Both styles have approximately the same performance and functions, but are fitted to the ear differently.
It’s almost a shame this technology isn’t more visible!
high-traffic areas. 3. Caregiver Support Having someone look out for the elderly is a surefire way of assuring that they remain safe. If you know of a neighbour, family member, or friend who is in need of assistance, offer to lend a hand. This may include helping with chores around the home that may be difficult or potentially unsafe for an older person. 4. Medication Management Many seniors have various medications that need to be taken on a daily basis, which can lead to error. Taking the wrong medications or forgetting whether the correct dosage has been taken is a very real possibility for the elderly. Keep your loved ones safe by the simple use of pill boxes or similar supports. Also consid-
er a simple checklist or tracking system that can be filled out daily. 5. Assistive Devices Seniors are often in need of assistive devices in order to be mobile within their homes, as well as outside. Wheelchairs, walkers, the use of medic-alerttype tools and similar items can make a considerable difference in the lives of those who need them. The Toronto Central Community Care Access Centre works with a variety of companies that supply these types of items to seniors in need. Contact the CCAC for details. For more information about supports for seniors, contact the Toronto Central Community Care Access Centre (CCAC) at (416) 506-9888 or visit www.healthcareathome.ca
Open-fit and Invisible-In-the-Canal (IIC) hearing aids are smaller and more beautiful than ever, striking the perfect balance between size and performance. The elegant and highly discreet open-fit hearing aid fits perfectly on top of your ear, and the thin tube in your ear canal is designed to disappear against your skin. The new IIC hearing aid--now with wireless technology--provides all of the outstanding features and benefits you want in a digital hearing aid, minus the stigma that came with wearing one in the past.
