Super-Charged Education Sessions 12:00–12:10 PM: Opening and Welcome Presented by Ben Davee, FLASH

Ben Davee

General Manager & Executive Vice President Electric Vehicle Charging and Mobility Services Division FLASH Ben Davee is the General Manager & EVP for the Electric Vehicle Charging and Mobility Services Division at FLASH. Ben manages the Mobility Services team and oversees strategy, implementation, sales, and operations for the Division. A combat veteran, Ben served as an officer in the United States Navy SEAL Teams for eight years, deploying to Afghanistan. After departing the military, Ben worked at Bain & Company as a Management Consultant focused on the technology sector. Following Bain, he was leader at a “smart city” startup before its acquisition by Motorola Solutions. Ben earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School. Ben’s recommended resource: “Revolution” is a strong word. 12:15–1:15 PM: Keynote Conversation: An Electrified Future

Andrew Duvall, Ph.D.

Transportation Behavior Analyst, National Renewable Energy Laboratory Dr. Andrew Duvall is a transportation behavior analyst in the Center for Integrated Mobility Sciences at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. He serves as project lead for micro-mobility research in the US Department of Energy’s SMART Mobility efforts to understand emerging transportation trends. His work centers on emerging technologies and practices, including behavioral adoption, mobility electrification, automated mobility, e-scooters, e-bikes, and how to foster energy and emissions improvements for communities. Dr. Duvall leads projects within the DOE Technologist in Community program, supporting positive energy and mobility outcomes in workforce and rural contexts. Robert Ferrin, CAPP

Assistant Director for Parking Services City of Columbus, Department of Public Service Robert Ferrin, CAPP and his team oversee all aspects of public parking and curb management for the City of Columbus. Robert spearheaded numerous smart city efforts, including curb management and electrification programming, coordinating with multiple City departments to implement these innovative initiatives through Smart Columbus. Robert is a member of the IPMI Board of Directors. He serves as the co-chair of the Research & Innovation Task Force, leading multiple initiatives including the IPMI Mobility Framework, the Curb Management Glossary, and electrification working group. Robert’s recommended resource: Check out the Smart Columbus project for information on electrification projects in the City.

Stanley E. Young, P.E., Ph.D.

Advanced Transportation and Urban Scientist National Renewable Energy Laboratory Dr. Young leads research efforts at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory into the impacts and application of new mobility systems, technology, and transportation data. He was appointed as the DOE technologist-in-city for the Columbus Smart City program in 2016, a role that has grown into a program with engagements with several cities seeking to implement leading edge technologies to improve efficiency, accessibility, and convenience for its citizens. Dr. Young led the Urban Science pillar as part of the US Department of Energy SMART Mobility research initiative. As pillar lead he initiated the development of the Automated Mobility District toolkit to assess the mobility and energy impacts resulting from the deployment of automated electric shuttles, and other automated mobility systems at a district scale. Offers 1 CAPP Point This session will share insights into the fundamentals of launching (or expanding) your EV charging resources and programs. Schulyler will offer an operational baseline to set you up for success and share the on-the-ground realities and challenges of programs and charging infrastructure. Attendees with understand the fundamental elements of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and management systems and discuss operational needs in relation to launching or expanding programming for EVs. In addition, they will explore facility requirements, utility needs, and coordination with related stakeholders to set programs and teams up for success.

Schuyler Poukish

Founder and Partner, Livingston Energy Group Schuyler Poukish leads Livingston Energy Group to cooperatively provide end-to-end services and software solutions for deploying EV charging stations including site design, provisioning equipment, finance and incentive support, installation, and ongoing network management. Schuyler founded and led several energy-centric startups aimed at improving equipment and infrastructure deployment, lean product development, SaaS network solutions, and electrification operating models. Beyond being an outspoken advocate for the adoption of electric vehicle technology, Schuyler is an emphatic believer in leveraging open initiatives and partner collaborations to accelerate market innovation across the electric-transportation grids.

2:45-3:45 PM: Show Me the Money: Grants, Funding, Incentives and ROI

Offers 1 CAPP Point Matthew Stephens-Rich offers a comprehensive perspective on the ROI of implementing EV charging for your operation. The funding vehicles and strategies to launch specific investments in EVs and the required infrastructure to support them are both varied and complex. Find out how to navigate this process with your team, staff, and various stakeholders. Attendees will discuss budgetary requirements, capital needs and planning, and the specifics of funding mechanisms for specific projects and programs. They will examine different funding mechanisms and strategies through a series of project examples. Matthew Stephens-Rich

Senior Program Manger, Electrification Coalition Matt Stephens-Rich oversees implementation of Electrification Coalition programming, focused on rapid electric vehicle and charging adoption across public and private sectors to improve America’s energy security and reduce emissions. This includes overseeing EC’s work in Bloomberg American Cities Climate Challenge, fleet consultation, and programming. In his role, he focuses on assisting fleets and organizations to rapidly adopt electric vehicles and charging across multiple sectors. He previously served as Projects Manager at Clean Fuels Ohio, a U.S. Dept. of Energy Clean Cities Coalition, where he worked to secure $25+ million in grant funding and deploy hundreds of alternative fuel fleet vehicles. His work on grant opportunities reached over $60M, including the City of Columbus application to the US Department of Transportation Smart Cities Challenge. CEO, ChargerHelp! With over a decade of experience in CleanTech, Kameale formed ChargerHelp! to create a reliable Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure. The CleanTech company, powered by technology, uses data to identify and provide maintenance and repair services for electric vehicle charging stations. As Director of Programs for EV Connect, she structured and led teams to execute infrastructure projects in the United States, Australia, and Canada for both commercial and government entities.
