Golf Wonderful reaches out to trade partners JAKARTA, Indonesia (21 May 2013) -- The organizers of Golf Wonderful Indonesia, a golf-centered, destination-marketing initiative, have launched a progressive direct-marketing campaign that enlists the partnership of regional travel agents, tour operators and media outlets, while devoting an extraordinary amount of time, effort and technology to the protection of partner mailing lists. Launched in August 2012, Golf Wonderful Indonesia (www.golfwonderfulindonesia.com) has gathered partner courses and hotels the length and breadth of the Archipelago, in order to provide custom golf travel packages that leverage the country’s unique standing as a golf destination both exotic and affordable. This next step -- formation of the Golf Wonderful Indonesia Tourism Outreach Center -- deploys sophisticated telemarketing technology and methodology to prospect for potential golf holidaymakers, using golfer contact lists supplied, in part, by partner tour operators, travel agents and media outlets. “We recognize that travel agents, tour operators and media are somewhat territorial when it comes to sharing their lists. They are also understandably wary of any tampering with those lists, which represent the lifeblood of their business,” said Kevin Monaghan, who heads up the Tourism Outreach Center on behalf of Golf Wonderful Indonesia (GWI).
16 • HOTELIER INDONESIA | MAY 2013
“That’s highly unlikely but we’ve nevertheless gone to extraordinary lengths, and expense, to protect those assets. “The other thing to point out here: Our outreach efforts are a very soft, non-invasive sell. Our team is young, polite, multi-lingual, and patriotic frankly. Their role in reaching out to golfers is purely informational -- to enable a sensible choice re. their next golfvacation. We’re actually doing for partners the sort of prospecting and outreach they cannot afford to do, or do as well, for themselves. Jakarta-based PT Panorama Wisata Nusantara is the tour operator managing all in-bound traffic for Golf Wonderful Indonesia, a brand and campaign that enjoys strong co-branding and support from the Indonesian Ministry of Culture and Tourism (whose overarching slogan is “Wonderful Indonesia”). National airline Garuda Indonesia is another partner, according to PT Panorama President Director Harmony Thomas, though privately owned course, hotel and restaurant entities form the remainder of consortium membership. The first stage in effectively marketing these tour packages took place in August 2012, when PT Panorama Wisata Nusantara announced that it had secured from all of its partner courses and hotels special rates enabling affordable and flexible packages available only through Golf Wonderful Indonesia. “It’s important that golfers and our fellow tour operators and travel agents understand how this works,” Thomas explained.

“We have secured exclusive rates with our partner courses and hotels, enabling extremely affordable packages that we sell directly togolfers through our brand web portal, golfwonderfulindonesia.com. That said, we fully expect and invite international tour operators and travel agents to partner with us in the selling of these packages, at a profit to them, because that sort of margin has been built into the pricing. PT Panorama Wisata Nusantara will, in turn, handle all logistics on behalf of partner TOs on the ground here in Jakarta and across Indonesia -another time- and money-saver for partners.” The launch of the Golf Wonderful Indonesia Tourism Outreach Center (TOC) on April 22 marked the beginning of Stage II. The TOC platform is equipped to reach out to golferpopulations across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, Korea, the Philippines and the UK. “The TOC team impart Indonesian golf tourism information on behalf of our partners, with the guarantee that when individual prospects are interested in more information, those prospects are referred directly back to our partners,” Monaghan explained. “With the list-security measures we have in place, and this lead-generation process working so concertedly for our partners, it’s something of a no-brainer.” Monaghan noted that when contact data comes to Golf Wonderful, list files are normally sent in zip files with a password sent via separate email, whereupon it is immediately encrypted. “Small batches are not worth the effort of a hacker frankly -- any perpetrator trying to retrieve the information would only get an encrypted mess anyway,” Monaghan said. “We change the style of encryption regularly. If a partner wishes to send this information via disc, or by courier, we can also arrange this at no cost to the partner.” Monaghan indicated the data is then decrypted and sent to the Tourism Outreach Center, offline. In this TOC environment, “We remove the last three digits of the telephone numbers associated with prospects, so that information cannot be tracked or memorized, even by our own staff. We maintain a clear-desk, paperless policy internally ensuring no misappropriate actions can be taken. “The partner can access our progress in real-time via the Internet and monitor every step of the sales process, though we deliberately provide a complicated IP address and password to protect the data.
www.hotelier-indonesia.com
Further we can remove unwanted data and destroy it, on a weekly or monthly basis, as directed by the partner. “Honestly, we’ve taken every step and several more to ease the anxieties of our partners. For example, we sign a non-disclosure agreement concerning partner data. Should we ever default, that would blacklist and ultimately ruin our business. Our offer comes at no cost, and we’ve made it risk free.” Monaghan and Thomas agree that most tour operators and travel agents don’t have the time or financial resources to work these prospect lists in such a technologically astute, concerted fashion -- across international borders. Even so, after first contact, if there is interest, the contact is promptly handed back to the partner tour operator for follow-up. When a tour package is sold using a partner-supplied contact, that partner tour operator earns the same commission it would have earned, had it closed the deal himself. “Tour operators seek personal, longstanding relationships with the golfers in their database, and we value that approach just as highly,” Thomas said. “We have a quality assurance team that monitors every call recorded the previous day -- to ensure our TOC team politely delivered the correct information and the golfer genuinely wants to receive more information about playing golf in Indonesia. So there is never, ever a chance of misrepresentation. “Of course, it’s important to remember we are selling an inherently attractive product, a superb value for the money. Only in Indonesia can you play a worldclass golf course, stay in a luxury hotel, start your day with a sumptuous breakfast, make use of a personal driver and car, and rest easy knowing there’s a team of professionals on the ground to look after you from the moment you arrive at the airport to the moment you fly home - all for around USD $150 a day, with no hidden costs.” For more information on Golf Wonderful Indonesia, contact PT Panorama Wisata Nusantara at +62 21.536.4469 or drop an email to info@golfwonderfulindonesia.com

INTERVIEW WITH ANDHY IRAWAN, Managing Director for DAFAM Hotels & Resorts Management, Semarang - Indonesia
Dafam Hotels & Resorts is one of many hotel chains in Indonesia that aims to manage and operate 2-star to 5-star hotels. The company was started based on the concern of a Pekalongan native, Soleh Dahlan, who owns and runs several business companies, (namely swiftlet nest business, cigarette factory, general trading, drug store, gas station, etc) about the quality of accommodation in Pekalongan – Central Java, Indonesia. Soleh Dahlan, through his second son, Billy Dahlan, has committed to become host in his own country (Indonesia) by establishing a national hotel chain in Indonesia.
Through Billy’s friendship with Andhy IRAWAN, a highly-motivated person with over 20 years of experience in hospitality business, and based on the same vision that they have, a hotel chain company was started to take its form. A national based hotel chain named Dafam Hotels & Resorts was officially established on July 7, 2010, with Billy Dahlan as the President Director and Andhy IRAWAN as the Managing Director who is fully responsible for the operation of the company.

HOT | Flag Carrier HIM: You’ve been called a “King of Raising Hotels & Resorts” for your abilities in preparing to open other newly 50 properties in the year 2013. How do you manage the seemingly impossible task of being Managing Director of DAFAM Hotels & Resorts Management, Semarang - Indonesia’s largest local hotels & resorts chain, let alone your other responsibilities? AI: “IMPOSSIBLE becomes I’M POSSIBLE” that magic word is always on my mind, if we think “CAN” it will mean surely “CAN” and also otherwise, definitely must be followed by hard work and pray.
A hotel is easy to build, but to run and to develop is not that easy.
HIM: That’s simple to mention, for sure, but what of the complexities of meeting the demands of owners, fulfilling the growth of your management team and delivering the DAFAM brand’s values to the internal and external guests? AI: It is not easy, but for all the things to do, is focus at work, confident, sincere, professional, and I have always thought “think out of box” then everything would go smoothly.
HIM: How critical has it been to build a strong team? AI: Nowadays, Dafam Hotels is acknowledged either in nationalwide or international-wide because of our great team, I call them as a “Dafam Super Team” because they are different and blending in one purpose to raise this Dafam Hotels & Resorts Management.
HIM: Is there opportunity for DAFAM Hotels & Resorts in Asia and other parts of the world? AI: Yes , there is. One year ago, I had a meeting with China investor, to establish Dafam Guangzhou, However for some matters unfortunately it could not come to the realization shortly. But in this year, I have met already with some investors from Malaysia and Singapore to open Dafam in those countries in the near future. HIM: Is there still a strong need for the travel agent, and will there always be that role? AI: Market of Dafam Hotels & Resorts is Global and surely, travel agent is still needed which is including corporate, government sector, etc. HIM: You’re one step ahead of other Hotels & Resorts management. The past year has seen the launch of three new different brands within Java and Bali Islands; Dafam, Marlin and Vio. What business impact have you seen from these new luxury properties? AI: The influence of current business is that we want to build hotels with good level of occupancy and surely, with rapid ROI. HIM: Tiered pricing Strategy? AI: Dafam Hotels & Resorts uses “Rate Structure” in every hotel and it is also different in every star hotel (Dafam Hotels & Resorts operates Two-Star rated Hotels until Five-Star rated Hotels). Besides surely there are unique sales strategies which are only owned by Dafam Hotels & Resorts Management. HIM: When you ask someone where they’re staying in Semarang - Central Java, Indonesia, they would (perhaps) typically say the International Hotel Chain, not the Dafam Hotels & Resorts. What of the brand? What do you think of that statement? AI: It does not matter for us but the impact that occurs is a matter for them. LoL. It means there are many regular guests from International Hotel in Semarang, But now it seems gradually they have moved into our hotels, for simple an example that currenttly two floors (all rooms) at Dafam Hotels in this region is rented by Japanese for a year.
www.hotelier-indonesia.com
HIM: What makes a successful Managing Director today and how do you focus your efforts? AI: I still don’t feel successful, because success is not my ultimate goal, success is a process for me and my team. The most important thing is that I and my team always focus at work for my own beloved country, INDONESIA! HIM: DAFAM Hotels & Resorts Management has received many recognations either from local or overseas. How many DAFAM Hotels & Resorts Management has been awarded the Medal of Honor?. Tell me more. AI: We have received three national awards and one international award within less than three years, such as; 1.Marketing Awards 2011 was given by Marketing Magazine. In this event, Dafam Hotels & Resorts wins in the category of The Best Innovation In Marketing. 2.Dafam Hotels & Resorts wins the category of The Leading Local Hotel Chain di Indonesia, in the event of Indonesia Travel & Tourism Awards 2011/2012. 3.Dafam Hotels & Resorts wins the category of Leader in New Chain Hotel, in the event of Indonesia Travel Business Leader Awards 2012. 4.Recently, 27-28 April, 2013 Dafam Hotels & Resorts wins the gold category International Arch of Europe Awards which was held by BID (Business Initiative Directions) in the event of Arch of Europe Convention, Frankfurt, Germany. HIM: Let’s finish with the issue of personal and work life balance. Do you implement it also for all of your organization team? AI: Of course, Whatever related to the “Balance and LIFE” is should be with us, because the energy and motivation levels to work are there in that part which leads us to create deep-down drive to succeed. HIM: Any advice for hotelier readers? AI: A hotel is easy to build, but to run and to develop is not that easy. Somehow, Dafam Hotels & Resorts Management is ready to “FIGHT” for our success in the near future.

What drive you to pursue a career in hospitality? I have the confidence this industry will never stop and continue to evolve. One of my characters that like to meet people and love to make them happy, personalities that suited with this industry, so hotel is the right place for me. How did you first become a general manager? I came from zero, climbed up from Stewarding and F & B Service, armed with love to do my tasks and top of it the goal to keep on focusing both customer and company’s satisfaction. These all brought me to trace my career step by step to an Outlet Manager, Department Head, Food and Beverage Director and eventually led me to General Manager position. Have you had to face any challenging in your career to get to where you are today? There were plenty of challenges that I Faced, especially the challenge to direct the desires and dreams into action, while the external challenges were on how to deal with co-workers and fellow hotelier competition especially, where the high educated had more chance and opportunities rather than someone who only had experience and passion in hospitality industry.
About Aston Manado, could you tell me about plan ahead? on the coming year we are planning to make an extra meeting room, which could provide the demand, whereas in 2012 we couldn’t accommodate some of the inquiry to our hotel. How you overcoming these challenges to market both your property and Manado as a whole? We create warm and charming working environment, where the whole team member work with all their hearts, this kind of action must be acculturated in our job. I am the person who believes if the whole team member work happy and they eventually will give better service, naturally. As the term ‘Service Is Marketing’ will be applied or run automatically. This simple method of service in which we provide, will be a magnet to the market. Aston Manado Hotel also provides CSR activities and do it regularly every three months. We truly believe that CSR program is also giving significant contribution for the strong branding activity of Aston Manado Hotel. Hotelier Indonesia would like to thanks Bobby Siswara for the time for this Short Interview, we wishing you all the best for your career years ahead.

Bill Barnett Managing Director C9 Hotelworks With experience spanning over three decades, Bill Barnett, managing director, acquired his expertise working in the hospitality industry within both key and emerging markets. Always taking a hands on approach, he has developed an invaluable “grass roots” knowledge of the property and hospitality industry that is passed on to his clients. Bill says, “C9 Hotelworks plays a vital role in enabling clients to fully understand the complex dynamics encircling management contracts and hotel real estate from the point of view of all key stakeholders, namely the property owner, operator, and lender”. Strategically based in Phuket, Thailand, he has held many roles within leading brands including; Deputy Managing Director of the publicly listed destination resort Laguna Phuket, where he was instrumental in establishing a branded hotel managed residential property division into a prominent real estate operation. Prior to this he was Chief Operating Officer – Asia Pacific for Millennium & Copthorne Hotels in Singapore, where his responsibility covered 43 operating and hotel assets. As an executive with Century International Hotels in Hong Kong, he played a key role in the expansion of the chain for nine years with Vice President positions in operations, development and asset management. With a proven track record in asset management, he has acted in ownership representation for leading hotels including the Four Seasons New York, Regent Beverly Wilshire, Ritz Carlton Hong Kong, Grand Hyatt Taipei, Hilton Seoul, Westin Philippine Plaza and Sofitel Silom Bangkok. In 1991 he was the first American hotel executive to manage a property in post war Vietnam. He attended executive education courses at Cornell University School of Hospitality Management and is currently a member of ISHC (International Society of Hospitality Consultants) and was awarded a prestigious PATA Gold Award in 2007 for Marketing.
1. I read that you were starting this C9 Hotel Works in Thailand at 2003, whats makes you stay there? I have lived and worked in Asia for over 28 years, Thailand is a great business base and strategically located in SE Asia which is one of the world’s most dynamic regions for tourism. 2. Do you have a plan to stay in Bali for next couple years? I am often in Bali, its one of my absolute favorite places in the world, we do extensive work in the tourism and hospitality sector in Indonesia. 3. How you get all data about Bali , Airport traffic, Tourist arrival, hotels development in Bali and Global Bali Market Update? how accurate is the report? It’s as good as it gets in terms of large market data. We check and counter check figures and believe it to be leading indicator of trends ahead.

Bill, always on the inside track, regularly writes property columns in Thailand’s English language daily newspaper the Nation and in leading tourism and property based newspaper the Phuket Gazette. In addition he’s made appearances on CNBC, BBC, CNN and in international news and financial publications. His popular blog, thephuketinsider.com, is the authoritative source of all Phuket hotel and real estate issues and trends. Veteran Asia Hotelier Bill Barnett has formed C9 Hotelworks, a Phuket based firm specializing in asset management and hospitality consulting. Formerly Deputy Managing Director of Laguna Resorts & Hotels with 18 years in the region Barnett says “there is currently a building boom in the rapidly expanding tourism and residential sector in Phuket, Ko Samui, Krabi and Khao Lak. Owners and developers entering these markets are rapidly seeking professional and experienced advice on how to maximize the returns and add value to bottom line results.” C9 Hotelworks has already secured a client base which includes two new resorts, and three mixed use developments located within Thailand. Bill Barnett was previously Chief Operating Officer of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels Asia Pacific and before that spent 9 years in senior executive roles with Century International Hotels in Hong Kong. His asset management experience includes properties managed by Four Seasons, Regent, Ritz Carlton, Grand Hyatt, Westin and Hilton. Joining him in the new venture is Michael Cowan who has extensive Asian experience and has worked with Banyan Tree, Hyatt and Renaissance.
4. As we know that more than 12,000 keys will open and ready to open in Bali, How would you think, the price war will be happen? How to avoid that ? Its too late to avoid it, this year will most likely see room rates and occupancy decline. You cannot build up a supply side this fast and not expect an impact. Longer term the market will catch up but for not, too fast, too much will have a key impact. 5. As government has clearly state the legal permit would be limited due to the booming hotels growth, how you see that in future? We have yet to see effective controls implemented. Once the hotels start to be hit financially there will most likely be some action. Bali is not balanced in tourism as its mainly focused on South Bali greater diversity needs to be planned and promoted.

6. After Bali what do you think will be next? As Lombok is quite slow at the moment. Lombok remains a key area but the triangle – Lombok, Sumba, Sumbawa and Flores, has tremendous potential. Lomboks airport will be a game changer longer term, for tourism airlift is key and that’s already in place. 7. Whats the great challenge of Hotel Market in Bali and Indonesia in global and what the prospective trends of the Hotels Industry in Bali and Indonesia? in the next let’s say 15 years? The rise of the middle market, more domestic travel and certainly a dynamic shift – this is the Asian decade. 8. Infrastructure is on going, but how fast do you think this will accommodate the arrivals and do you see any thing missing in here? do you think there’s any improvement?do you have any personal suggestions? Bali is not different then Thailand, the economic boom in the private sector has sprinted ahead of the public sector, it’s a mismatch, same as many other SE Asian countries. Bali’s infrastructure is making progress but it will be a painful period while playing catch up.

9. If Bali compared to Phuket, We can tell that Bali is still lowest in term of Villas Branded Price and Sales, why this is happen and how long? Phuket has more favorable flying time to key markets like Hong Kong so high net worth villa owners come to the island for the weekend. Also the support structure with 5 marinas, two large international hospitals and six golf courses help, for the most part location and key demand drivers have pushed Phuket ahead. 10. All development premiere to the South Bali, specifically the Branded Hotel, do you see any problem for investor to build in the North Bali? North Bali has many attributes but it should not try to mimic South Bali, it’s a start up market and need so find unique positioning. Without airport access its remote so really caters to a select niche market at present. 11. What is your favorite Hotel in Bali and In the world? I have one favorite Bali hotel I love the Four seasons privacy in their villas, the design at the Alila Uluwatu, the cultural aspect at the Tugu, affordability of the Fave Seminyak and the coziness of the Cinta Inn in Ubud. Where is my favorite hotel in the world, its out there still waiting to be stayed in..

We’re fortunate to catch up with Benjamin Tenius, a life-long hotelier currently based in Abu Dhabi. As the F&B Manager for Crowne Plaza, Benjamin is following his passion by doing what he loves and loving what you does. [HI] How did you get your start in the hospitality industry? Has it always been an interest of yours? [BT] Both of my parents, Barbara and Rainer are Hoteliers. My three brothers and I grew up travelling with my parents hotel assignments. My Grandparents, living on the German countryside, worked closely to agriculture and food production which inspired me during my upbringing. Working with other people to providing food for body and soul whilst delivering the art of service was an essential and ever-present part of my life. My passion for people, nature and food & beverage is brought together in hospitality. [HI] You’ve been with properties in Europe and the Middle East. Could you describe the transition into Egypt and UAE? Were there adjustments that needed to be made? [BT] The transition from Europe into Egypt and other countries were not too challenging for me since relocating has been part of my “normal” upbringing. I openly accepted all new, whilst eagerly learning language and culture with the the local customs and enjoyed blending into the societies, yet being a small embassador for my own,
German heritage. In my family’s culture we have introduced numerous multi cultural traditions and married them with our own. Understanding and living in other cultures enhances one’s view of our world. [HI] You’ve worked at highprofile properties in multiple countries, managing and training new staff must have sometimes been difficult. Any most memorable situation? [BT] In my time in Puerto Rico I identified a gap in wine knowledge of my team I led at the time. I arranged for a basic, sensory wine training. After a few presentation slides on the subject I opened selected bottles and asked the waiters to actually taste the wine in combination with different foods which none of the participants have expected. They would not realise they were to try the wines for training purposes as they have always had a theoretic approach, only. [HI] You’re currently with Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi. What are your responsibilities there? [BT] I am in charge of the the Food and Beverage Department and together with the Executive Chef drive the guest experience,
the employee satisfaction, the financial returns and health / safety in my areas. Our 150 persons-strong brigade in our 9 sections produce more than half of the hotel’s revenues. I am reporting to the General Manager, Ivor Prestwood, and sit on the hotel’s executive committee. I cannot hide my pride of my team having received numerous awards, nominations and other accolades in my time with the hotel. [HI] What personal goals have you reached? What goals have you set for the future? [BT] One of the greatest achievements in life is to truly be happy. I am happy having found the love of my life, Nadeschka, in Puerto Rico and living in many countries and working in a profession that I truly love. This year we are expecting our first baby which we both looking very much forward to. My goals really are to continue to being happy and eventually taking the challenge of a General Manager’s position. My dream is to have a small bed and breakfast with a small, simple gourmet restaurant where I cook, maybe a small vinyard in the back.
[HI] Is there a personal philosophy that drives your career? [BT] Do what you love, love what you do. Life is a gift! [HI] I’ve noticed you spent time as a PADI Divemaster. Do you still have an opportunity to enjoy the sport? What other outlets do you have for your leisure time? [BT] Our family loves to plan to get together at least once a year with my family which is spread over world. We meet alternating in Europe and somewhere in the world where we love to include a diving trip or hiking trip when possible. On my time off I love to go jogging outside and discovering new places with my wife. Of course I like to try new restaurants and cuisines. [HI] What advice do you have to others starting their careers in the industry? [BT] I consider hospitality to be the most beautiful industry. In order to succeed one must be absolutely passionate about the job. It is great to get this hands-on experience through a two or three year apprenticeship and supplement it later with a Bachelor- or Master degree.***
Hotelier Indonesia appreciates Benjamin’s contribution and wishes him the very best along the way.

EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIONS FORM An application form is a standardized form used to support in the selection of hiring new employees. It may include everything from past jobs and positions, as well as education and any other particluar information. Every time you’ve stumbled across a fantastic job but there’s an application form to fill in before the company will even consider meeting you. It’s several pages long, the questions are scarily open and normally the blank spaces for your answers are gaping. The reason that an application is needed to fill out for such a application form, even if you have a resume to hand them, is to keep the selection process simple for the employers. With a standard format to peruse, the employer can easily compare one potential employee to the next and the information in a completed employment application will be compared with the job description and job specifications to determine the degree of match between applicant and job. This is often a difficult task. For the majority of positions, the selecting process begins with the prospective employee completing an application form. The application is then reviewed (either by someone in the human resource department or by the hiring manager, depending upon how selection is carried out in a particular organization) to determine if there appears to be a possible match between the applicant and the open position. As what I had read and understood from professional HRM Handbook, application forms are widely used on this entirely world. It is always prepared since the APPLICATION FORM gives SOME PURPOSES such as: • It is a record of the applicant’s desire to obtain a position; • It provides the interviewer with a profile of the applicant that can be used in the interview; • It is a basic employee record for applicants who are hired; • It can be used for research on the effectiveness of the selection process.
Application forms MAY NOT usually be thought of as “TEST”, the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) and court in The U.S decisions DEFINE them as AN EMPLOYMENT TESTS. CONSEQUENTLY, the data requested on application forms MUST BE JOB RELATED (How about in Indonesia? You yourself who can answer this).
MANY EMPLOYERS use only one application form, BUT others need several since it depends on its organization regulation. The information received on application forms may not always be completely accurate, BUT an important point must be made here. In an attempt to PREVENT INACCURACIES, many application forms CARRY a STATEMENT that the applicant is REQUIRED to sign. IN EFFECT, the statement reads: “I realize that falsification of this record is grounds for dismissal if I am hired”. THE STATEMENT HAS BEEN USED BY EMPLOYERS TO TERMINATE PEOPLE (Can you Imagine this?).
The specific types of information requested on employment applications vary from company to company, and even by job groupings within an organization. But, in The U.S, these following questions are mentioned below regarded as THE ILLEGAL QUESTIONS which are TYPICALLY FOUND on APPLICATION FORMS; • Marital status; • Information on spouse; • Height/weight; • Date of high school graduation; • Number and ages of dependents; • Contact in case of emergency.
Application forms TRADITIONALLY have asked FOR references AND requested THAT the applicant GIVES permission to contact them RATHER THAN asking for PERSONAL or GENERAL REFERENCES. It may be more useful to request the names of previous supervisors on the application form.
The REASON for concern about SUCH QUESTIONS as cited ealier above is that THEY CAN have an ADVERSE impact on some protected groups.

FOR EXAMPLE, the question about DEPENDENTS can be used to IDENTIFY women with small children. These women MAY NOT BE HIRED because of a MANAGER’S PERCEPTION that they WILL NOT be as DEPENDABLE as those without small children. THE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION DATE gives a close identification of A PERSON’S AGE, that CAN BE USED TO DISCRIMINATE AGAINST individuals over 40. OR, the QUESTION about EMERGENCY CONTACT might reveal marital status OR other PERSONAL INFORMATION that is INAPPROPRIATE to ask. Now, you can See the HR Perspective for examples of how many of firms deal UNETHICALLY with these issues, including HR practitioners in Indonesia. That’s so phatetic. In The U.S, one point to remember is that although many employers must collect data on the race and sex of those who apply to fulfill requirements for reporting to the EEOC, the application blank CAN’T contain THESE ITEMS, the solution is used by a growing number of employers is to have applicants provide EEOC reporting data on a SEPARATE VOLUNTARY APPLICANT INFORMATION FORM. It is important that this form must be FILED SEPARATELY and NOT USED IN ANY OTHER HR selection activities, OR the EMPLOYERS may be ACCUSED of using APPLICANT INFORMATION INAPPROPRIATELY (But in here, Indonesia, do we have this short of example of best practice? I assume that even the HR practitioner itself doesn’t know this philosophy also).
I am not sure if all of HR practitioners in this waterland especially at the hospitality industry understand about this particular rule of thumb. But, in fact, they always do what they always do wrongly since the beginning they start their career in HR world. Hence, if you claim to be a professional in HR, you must develop a weighted application blank now, it is necessary to develop and update questions every few years that differentiate between satisfactory and poor performing employees to ensure that the factors previously identified are still valid predictors of job success that can be asked legally regardless there are several problems associated with weighted application forms, the time difficulty and effort required to develop such a form. Yet, on the positive side, using weighted forms enable employer evaluates and compares applicants’ responses numerically to a valid, jobrelated set of inquiries.

Philips Emphasizes the Role of Lighting in Green Movements
Participating in GreenRIGHT: Green Building Expo & Conference 2013,Philips Emphasizes the Role of Lighting in Green Movements Jakarta, Indonesia - Royal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI), a pioneer in the lighting industry, is participating again in GreenRIGHT: Green Building Expo & Conference 2013, on April 10-13 in Jakarta. As one of the corporate founders of Green Building Council Indonesia, the organizer of this event, Philips Indonesia shows its seriousness in supporting the green movement in Indonesia through its energy-efficient LED lighting solutions and Turnkey Projects and Services (TP&S). “When people talk about ‘Go Green,’ ‘Green Building,” and other ‘green’ terms, it is really important to use those terms properly. The theme of this year’s exhibition, ‘Sustain and Gain,’ sets the proper context and reflects how Philips sees the situation,” said Danny Gunadi, Professional Channel Marketing Manager, Philips Indonesia. “In Indonesia, the “green movement” aims to improve our quality of life and the environment by managing natural respources in a responsible and sustainable manner; saving energy and using renewable sources of energy; saving and conserving water; and recycling as a form of waste management.” The green building movement has driven Philips to focus on innovation as a way to develop lighting solutions that improve our quality of life and the environment. Around the world, lighting represents 19% of electricity consumption. Moreover, lighting accounts for more than 1.9 billion tons of CO2 emissions yearly. By simply switching to energy-saving LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting technology, an average energy savings of 40% can be achieved. On a global basis, that savings equals some EUR 128 billion (more than IDR 1,600 trillion) and some 670 million tons of CO2 emissions each year. Besides the energy savings and CO2 reduction, the LED lighting system also offers full control of color, intensity and direction (indoor and outdoor), and a longer life span (from 50,000 to more than 100,000 hours[PREFER (more than 50,000 hours).
www.hotelier-indonesia.com
The LED bulbs developed by Philips are designed to deliver bright illumination without producing heat energy. Furthermore, LED lighting systems have longer life spans and consume electricity more efficiently. For comparison, an LED bulb uses only 10 watts of energy to produce the illumination of a 90-watt fluorescent light bulb. “Philips innovative LED lighting solutions are not only turning buildings and offices greener, but they also give economic value – an average of 40%, in some cases up to a 80%, reduction per year -- to the owners,” explained Danny. The key to substantial energy savings lies beyond providing just LED lighting solutions to property owners and building management/operators. Philips also offers its Turnkey Projects & Services (TPS) program, in which Philips offers energy audits, integrated lighting customization, project management, financing plans, and maintenance services. As Danny further revealed, “The beauty of LED lighting technology is not just the invisible advantages of technological innovation and ‘green’ benefits, but the visible beauty that it brings to the world around us.” The proof can be seen at buildings and landmarks across Indonesia that have applied LED lighting systems, such as Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta; Hotel Shangri-La Surabaya; FX-Lifestyle X’Nter Sudirman Jakarta; Mal Kota Kasablanka Jakarta; the National Monument (Monas) Jakarta; the Jl. Pemuda Fountain in Surabaya; the Palembang City Fountain; the Office of the Mayor of Palembang; the gas stations of PT. Total Indonesia; and the Suramadu Bridge in East Java. GreenRIGHT: Green Building Conference & Expo 2013 is an annual event held by Green Building Council Indonesia, which brings together experts from Indonesia and abroad to share information and insights on the world’s future. During the event, industry participants and general public can learn about green efforts that have been or may be implemented and applied. PT.
