New cookbook aims to make Thai food easy
The crocodile sighted off Mai Khao Beach is thought to be either an escapee from a crocodile farm or a wild saltwater croc like the one pictured here. Photo: F Van Renterghem

A
large crocodile that caused considerable nervousness among locals and tourists when it was spotted swimming off Mai Khao Beach on Sunday morning (November 3) is still at large despite continuing searches of lakes
and swamps in the hinterland of the beach, and along the beach itself. The crocodile was sighted at 7:45am on Sunday by Jessada Maliwal, an activity officer and life guard at the Mai Khao Dream Resort. He was chatting with a friend when he spotted something in the water. “At first I thought it was a log … but a log wouldn’t have eyes, would
it?” he told The Phuket News. He rushed back to his office to tell his colleague, Viriyapong Jaruenrit, to keep an eye on the croc, which he estimated to be about three metres long. Then he ran to tell the reception staff at the resort to make sure all the guests knew there was a potentially dangerous animal in the water.

Mr Viriyapong, meanwhile, was having trouble getting a guest to understand that swimming in the sea was not safe right now. A Russian woman was swimming in the ocean and Mr Viriyapong tried to explain to her husband about the croc. At first the husband didn’t understand, but then the crocodile reappeared closer to the beach.
