The members of the Pinehurst-Southern Pines Area Association of Realtors速 (PSPAAR) and the PinehurstSouthern Pines Area MLS, Inc (PSPA) are proud to announce the launching of a new and improved real estate website. The new website can be reached using the domain names of either www.move2moore.com or www.pinehurstncrealtors.com. So what inside this new website that would be of interest to real estate consumers, first-time homebuyers, relocating homeowners, retirees, business executives, second home buyers, investors, and our members: First a quick overview- The home page provides further access to pages on- Property Search, About the Area, Find a Realtor, Use A Realtor, Affiliate Members, Advocacy, Community Links and About Us. The design theme for the Property Search pages was to allow consumers and clients to access all property listed by members of the PSPA MLS. The main search criteria are: Residential, Land, Commercial or Open Houses. After selecting the main criteria you can enter search criteria such as Town/Village/City, Street Name, Type (Single family, condo, horse farms) Square Footage, Number of Bathroom and Bedroom. Probably most important is price range. Easy to use toggle bars and pull downs were used. Consumers can now obtain a complete listing of all planned open house locations by accessing the Property
Search tab. The Open House calendar listing will give you location, open house time, comments about the property. What a great resource for consumers. On the Find a Realtor page you can search by first and or last name, Broker Office, Realtor Designation, Multi-lingual Realtors and Specialties. From this search page you will be provided a complete list of Realtor members who fit your criteria. The member information contains a photo, contact information and the ability to send an email, view that Realtor's residential, commercial or land listings. All listing information contains complete Google mapping. On the Find an Affiliate page you can search for home inspector, mortgage consultant, local bank or an attorney. This page provides a link by business specialty for the Association's Affiliate members. It provides contact information, office location mapping and other business information. The About the Area page gives you information and links to all cities, villages and towns within Moore County. In addition to a summary of pertinent information you can click on the main area title for direct access to other links and information. In February Mav Hankey of Prudential Gouger O’Neil and Saunders travelled to Costa Rica with her church, Emmanuel Episcopal of Southern Pines to continue work that began last year. She and 10 others from the church worked in the small village of Estrada on a Parish Hall. Most of the young children of the village are on their own as their parent(s) work in the banana plantations all day long. The building will serve as a safe place for the children to learn and play supervised and cared for by people of the church. It will also function as a meeting place and a learning center for all the residents of the village. The pictures of the children sum up why we will continue to lend a helping hand to this lovely church and community.

Coming soon to a home near you: an affordable, sustainable, efficient, green home, with third party engineer performance certification testing, with a national certification to prove its green pedigree… That’s because the Moore County Home Builders Association has formed the “Moore Green Council” that is now part of the National Association of Home Builders’ NAHB National Green Building Program. The council joins the 120 local and regional green building programs whose members have produced more than 115,000 green homes since 1997 have united under the banner of NAHBGreen. The real question is: What meaningful advantages are offered to home buyers by a green home? In the past few years one can barely open a newspaper or magazine without reading about the “greening” of just about everything including products that, on the face, appear to be the very opposite of green: cleaning products, SUV’s, trucks, and perhaps most ironic big oil company advertising… There seems to be a great deal of fluff and even more hype surrounding the “green” marketplace and frankly it’s hard to know exactly what you are getting what the real green advantages of a given product are these days. NAHB Certified Green Professionals (CGP’s) know that a green home is more than just a house with extra insulation or high-tech windows — PAGE 12
and yet being green doesn’t mean the home has to be a new age yurt or a geodesic dome. A home can be considered green when energy efficiency, water and resource conservation, the use of sustainable or recycled products, and indoor environmental quality considerations are incorporated into the process of home building a traditional home. The increased availability of education for builders, growing consumer awareness and the exploding market for affordable, sustainable, and recycled building products has accelerated green building’s acceptance rate and move into the mainstream, all at a very affordable cost. The NAHB National Green Building Program is being fueled by this growing acceptance and is based on the suc-

cess of local programs that have been certifying and verifying “authentically green” homes for years. NAHBGreen is transforming the market by allowing home builders to provide homes that are as green as home buyers want and as energy- and resource-efficient as is economically feasible. There is a NAHBGreen Web site — www.nahbgreen.org — with features for builders and home buyers. Builders can use the site to design the home they want to build and what green features they want to incorporate. An online scorecard then keeps track of the home’s growing “greenness” and can add and subtract features to keep that cost-effective and customer-preference balance.

Local third party verifiers, trained and accredited by the NAHB Research Center, inspect the home during construction and after completion to confirm the scorecard and give the home a Bronze, Silver Gold, or Emerald rating.
