Earth Ball, We Have a Problem... by Claudia Macias, Field Day Co-Chair The earth ball...a prominent fixture of Field Day...is typically placed in the peace circle a few days prior to field day to help build the excitement. This year the earth ball sustained "an injury" at another school and is not available to us. No need to "panic," solution mode activated! Fellow co-chair Nicole Pedersen found a gigantic inflatable soccer ball on the Internet. As adults, when we come across an unknown or unforeseen situation, we review, research, collaborate, and adapt. For children, it takes a bit more time and practice. When I looked into The Post Oak School for my girls, one (of the many things) that drew me to it, was a write up that included the development of characteristics including the ability to adapt, take on challenges and figure out solutions collaboratively. The earth ball solution, a simple example, is a powerful reminder as to what Post Oak School is about. Post Oak School is a place that supports and fosters critical thinking and problem-solving — skills needed when faced with a challenge that may require the ability to adapt.

This Field Day, come out and watch the children work, play, problem-solve, think critically, and collaborate. Volunteer at a booth (your collaboration makes it a success). Then sit back and enjoy the conversations with old friends and make new friends...let's unplug for a good time! •
