Here to Serve!

Many know I make no apologies about my personal faith in Jesus the Christ. Few know that such faith is rooted in the spiritual tradition of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (AMEC). For those who are familiar with the AME Church and its rich history, you may know Bishop Richard Allen is the founder and first elected and consecrated Bishop of the AME Church. He was a pioneer of social justice and a proponent of the social gospel. He established opportunities of education, care for the sick, food for the hungry and many social welfare programs to address the needs of his fellow slaves and former slaves (as he was).

However, though he is truly a model of human good will, it is his late wife Sarah Allen who gives me great motivation. Sarah Allen was a contemporary of Harriet Tubman. She was a social worker before the title existed. She cared for runaway slaves by feeding them, clothing them and tending to their education—a prerequisite for real liberation. Moreover, she offered the same compassionate care to runaway slaves as she did to Itinerate Ministers of the newly formed church. She was the epitome of true independent leadership established to create an environment that would benefit generations of her time and those to come. This is the crux of my desire to serve as a public servant. This year, I have

learned true leadership requires being diligent and focused even in the face of adversity. The best of who we are does not manifest in mountaintop moments, but in the dark shadow of valley experiences. The Apostle Paul summed it up this way: “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1 KJV For me, public service is my reasonable service. It is an honor to serve as Mayor of the City of Baltimore. I grew up in this city attending public schools and on to pursuing college and graduate school right here in Baltimore. Moreover, like Sarah Allen, I see the potential of the most vulnerable. I see the potential of our schools, neighborhoods, cultural institutions and small businesses. These improvements are mute and shallow intentions without the help of institutions of faith and people like you. As an individual, I cannot do it all, but together we all can do it. I believe we have made many strives as a city such as: the lowest homicide rate in over two decades, cleaner and greener streets, PEACE Baltimore and Be Fit Baltimore to name a few. I am a committed leader who is committed to the social, economic and healthy wellbeing of the City of Baltimore.

Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo

When the Example Fails For it became him…in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Hebrews 2:10 If you are called to be an example, a role model, a leader, a mentor, a teacher and you are challenged with a test, go through it. You will ultimately pass this test! Initially you will fail. You may have to repeat the test more than one time. But each re-take will teach you something that you will be able to use to help someone else. You are not being tested just for your own good. You are being tested so that others may learn from what you are going through. You can’t teach what you do not know. And you can not impart what you have not gained through experience. If you are called to be an example, know that you will have to go through a season of failure. This season is designed to make you walk through places where you will one day have to lead others. It has been hand crafted to force you out of your comfort zone and compel you into your destiny. Each experience has been carefully selected to carve and mold and shape your life to be an example for others to follow. Hold on to this thought when the next round of tests comes and knocks the wind out of your sails, buries you under the weight of unrelenting demands and paralyzes you with challenges for which you have no answers. You, who thought you were so capable, efficient and accomplished, will fail these tests – over and over and over again…until you learn what they were sent to teach…until you mature past the focus on yourself…until you see the hand of God working in your life…until you are on the other side of it all and can see the value of it all and you can teach all that you have learned. You will fail until God releases you to pass. In the end when you pass the tests there is someone waiting to learn from what you learned, to grow from the soil in which you have been planted and to be strengthened from your strength. You will pass your tests because you have an example who has gone before you and who is standing by to assist you through every road block, up every mountain, out of every pit and to show you how to get back up when you fall.

For in that he himself has suffered being tested, he is able to help them that are tested. ~Hebrews 2:18 Power Magazine December 2009 n n n

“ The OverFlow ! “

written by : Min. Steve “MusicMan” Turner Overflow – (verb) defined by Webster as :Flood, run over,or excess Featured Artist: GOD Almighty !! Matthew 11:15 declares: “He that hath ears to hear, let him hear,”

After many years of playing on organs, keyboards, pianos, and singing @ Chrisitian events and programming. I often wonder is GOD in the building? The Bible states: That many cry Lord we have done this & that in your name. Why did GOD create music? Is he pleased when we preach in song and then go dance or sing R&B? The Bible states can two walk together unless they be agreed ? This applies also to Pastor & Chief Musician? I have heard statements that anything two-headed is a monster. Then God has made room for a Holy horror show. Let’s not stone the messenger. Even from Genesis to Revelation, God has desired fellowship & forgiveness. When GOD perceived that it was not good for Man to be alone “, he created a woman EVE! When he wanted to replenish the Earth during the time of Noah every animal was called 2 by 2. As he dispensed the disciples to evangelize the Earth, he dispatched them 2 by 2. While we fight and jockey for positions in the God-hea. We are overlooking the needs of the Sheep & the community. Many events & programs both in & outside the Church are put on … but GOD has been locked out of his own house. Money was the main reason for having or being a part of the event. On Saturday, December 12th, 2009 @ Greater Church of the Risen Savior, located @ 5615 The Alameda, GOD is going to get the glory !! “PRAISE POWER 2009 ! A partnership between : The Newsome Awards, Golf4Youth,Inc., Pamela Coleman Ministries, Triumph Community Church, ST Ministries & Power Magazine! This Holy Team of Advocates will be featuring: A Christimas Community Concert, to address the needs of : The Poor, Widows, Seniors,And the Homeless!! Social Agencies who care about those most oppressed during these times, will be present as well as some of our civic leaders during a special VIP reception. We are looking for Chrisitan Artists who want to give back to our community. It is time to think beyond our own sefish agendas, and look to the needs of the sheep not just in the Church, but the potential sheep dieing on the doorsteps of the House of God! In closing, I applaud the following for their IMMEDIATE support: Evang Carolyn Johnson, Evang Vince Robinson, Pastor Fred Newsome, Min. Pamela Coleman, Heavenly Blessed, Min. Tyrone Petiford, Rev. CHANNUKAH: ITS RELEVANCE TO GENTILE AND JEWISH BELIEVERS TODAY The Jewish holiday of Chanukah has over fifty spelling variations. Best known as the Feast of Dedication, this minor holiday has developed over time to be a true light to a dark world searching for spiritual. As a Messianic Jew, this symbolizes or calling to serve our Lord with thanksgiving and perseverance

In the scriptures, John 10:22 makes a reference to Yoshua (Jesus) observing this festival during his ministry nearly 2000 years ago. Our Lord lived a fully Jewish life completed with the biblical commandments. Even today, this observance has a deep richness as we walk with the guidance of the Ruach Hakodesh (The Holy Ghost or Sprit) In the year 165 B.C.E (Before The Common Era), the Syrian Greeks known as the Seleucids, occupied much of what is now the modern state of Israel. At that time, the center of Jewish life was in Jerusalem, at the Temple. Here sacrifices were offered by the community to reconcile ones relationship with Hashem (The Name) The Greek occupation forces were followers of a system worshipping many deities. They wanted the Jewish nation to substitute their form of worship in place of praising the one true God. This form of coecion was known as Hellenism. The Jewish people were at a crossroads facing this spiritual coercion. Many Jews unfortunately sided with their Hellenist conquerors. However a small band of Jewish warriors continued to seek the face of Hashem. This remnant were know as the Maccabeans.

A fierce series of military struggles were ought in the name of religion. The Maccabees depended on Hashem to prevail over a combined force of Selecids fighters combined with assimilated Jews. In the end, Gods method of worshipped was preserved for the Jewish World. Today, Chanukah is celebrated the world over for eight days. The holiday can occur as early as the second week of November to as late as the first week in January. Today there is more of a wide spread observance of the feast by Gentile believers, and several gentile oriented congregations. During the eight day festival, there are several rituals utilized to mark the observance . An eight branch Chanukiyah is lighted around or after sundown each evening. A famous hymn, Moar Tzur is sung, along with at least two branchos (prayers). Synagogue prayers include a recounting of this historical victory. As a Messianic Jewish believer the importance of this holiday points to Y-shua as the Light of the world. As one reconciled with God through the forgiveness of sins, there is great joy in celebrating this feast of lights. One day when the Y-shua returns to gather up his people darkeness will cease. The light of Meassiah will fulfill our hope of one body, Jews, and Gentiles, fellowshipping together eternally. Shalom! ~ “Rabbi” Yehudah Mordechai (Mark W. Hart) Sha’arei Toran Messianic Cong. Words from the Word Min. Tyrone Pettiford

“Patience In your patience possess ye your souls. (Luk 21:19); Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. (Jam 1:3); But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. (Jam 1:4); Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness; (Col 1:11); But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. (Rom 8:25); Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. (Jam 5:11); Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus: (Rom 15:5); Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. (Rev 14:12).
