Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo

Have You Learned Enough? that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. James 1:4

place?

Have you learned enough where you are to move from here to the next

Have you done what you were required to do in this place to do more in the next? Have you gained any wisdom? Do you know more than you did before? Have you discovered anything about yourself in this place that will help you in the next place? Each place you are in, each place you live, each place you work, each place you worship, each place you go is supposed to provide you with something to take with you to the next place God has for you. The mobile, nomadic existence of the Israelites on the way to the Promised Land was characterized by their encounter with varying terrains, environments, peoples, conditions‌all of which determined their progress and their movement from one place to another. They were not promised an easy route, but God did assure them He would make it straight. Moving from place to place was directed and designed to teach them something: the art of war, the joy of peace, the experience of victory, the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places. Moving on meant lessons had been learned. Have you learned anything from where you are right now? Do you know enough to move on? Have you learned how to‌ operate in your gift walk in love apply wisdom manage your time humble yourself submit yourself to God? Have you learned how‌ ignorant you are helpless you are totally lost you are without the One who teaches, leads, guides and provides?

Have you learned how to forgive?

Have you learned patience, selflessness, tolerance or compassion?

Have you learned how… to sacrifice to move in obedience to appreciate your salvation? Have you learned that your spiritual walk is not about what level you’re on or how high you go, but it’s about how much you have experienced the depths of Jesus Christ? Have you learned how… to yield to listen to lead and be led?

Have you learned not to worry – but to give it to God…immediately?

Have you learned… to forgive quickly to roll with the punches and keep moving forward not to take anything personally to be less defensive and more receptive – to criticism, instruction, advice acceptance – of what you cannot change, of people different from you, of other people’s weaknesses

Have you learned… how to forgive without retaliation how to say it, mean it, live it that God’s timing is definitely not your own that you can be wrong that only God can fulfill someone else’s needs that you can’t fix, change or save anyone how to sing your way through it…shout, praise and dance your way through it? Have you learned how to learn?

Have you learned enough? God is calling you to walk into your newness. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I want to thank everyone for their contributions to my retirement. My retirement banquet at the Forum on November 15th was a great success. My heart is full of gratitude to all those who made it possible. Everyone has been so kind in supporting me. It was great to see so many Pastors and Churches represented there, as well as my personal family and my friends; many of whom traveled from other states to be with me. I thank God for the various committees that worked so tirelessly to make my celebration year a successful one ending with that great banquet. Special thanks go to the Esstep Brothers (Funeral Home) for their generosity and support. They went above and beyond the usual, showing themselves to be true friends. I would also like to thank Dr. A. C. D. Vaughn for being with me at the banquet and carrying out the task of keeping the program going. I knew he was the man for the job. To Reverend Pierce Keyser, my long time friend, you know First Lady Brown would have wanted you to sing even if you weren’t on the program. Your friendship has meant so much to me over the years. I’d also like to thank Bishop Walter Scott Thomas from the depths of my heart for generously being with me on two of the most important events in my life, my consecration, and now my retirement celebration. I’d like to thank my Dalton family for loving me enough to want to honor me in this way. Thank you for supporting me and following me all these years. I will always be grateful for your love and support. Finally, I want to thank my wife and children for supporting me all these years, for sacrificing so much so that I could fulfill God’s will. I love you and I am forever grateful for a loving, supportive family like you. I thank God for seeing me through my career. Even though I am retiring from the Pastorate, I will continue to take preaching engagements. God bless everyone who came out to the banquet and those who supported me. Lastly, thanks to Brother Joseph Riley and the staff of the Power magazine for the tremendous job they did over these last six months in advertising my retirement.

CHANNUKAH: ITS RELEVANCE TO GENTILE AND JEWISH BELIEVERS TODAY The Jewish holiday of Chanukah has over fifty spelling variations. Best known as the Feast of Dedication, this minor holiday has developed over time to be a true light to a dark world searching for spiritual. As a Messianic Jew, this symbolizes or calling to serve our Lord with thanksgiving and perseverance.

In the scriptures, John 10:22 makes a reference to Yoshua (Jesus) observing this festival during his ministry nearly 2000 years ago. Our Lord lived a fully Jewish life completed with the biblical commandments. Even today, this observance has a deep richness as we walk with the guidance of the Ruach Hakodesh (The Holy Ghost or Sprit) In the year 165 B.C.E (Before The Common Era), the Syrian Greeks known as the Seleucids, occupied much of what is now the modern state of Israel. At that time, the center of Jewish life was in Jerusalem, at the Temple. Here sacrifices were offered by the community to reconcile ones relationship with Hashem (The Name) The Greek occupation forces were followers of a system worshipping many deities. They wanted the Jewish nation to substitute their form of worship in place of praising the one true God. This form of coecion was known as Hellenism. The Jewish people were at a crossroads facing this spiritual coercion. Many Jews unfortunately sided with their Hellenist conquerors. However a small band of Jewish warriors continued to seek the face of Hashem. This remnant were know as the Maccabeans.

A fierce series of military struggles were ought in the name of religion. The Maccabees depended on Hashem to prevail over a combined force of Selecids fighters combined with assimilated Jews. In the end, Gods method of worshipped was preserved for the Jewish World. Today, Chanukah is celebrated the world over for eight days. The holiday can occur as early as the second week of November to as late as the first week in January. Today there is more of a wide spread observance of the feast by Gentile believers, and several gentile oriented congregations. During the eight day festival, there are several rituals utilized to mark the observance . An eight branch Chanukiyah is lighted around or after sundown each evening. A famous hymn, Moar Tzur is sung, along with at least two branchos (prayers). Synagogue prayers include a recounting of this historical victory. As a Messianic Jewish believer the importance of this holiday points to Y-shua as the Light of the world. As one reconciled with God through the forgiveness of sins, there is great joy in celebrating this feast of lights. One day when the Y-shua returns to gather up his people darkeness will cease. The light of Meassiah will fulfill our hope of one body, Jews, and Gentiles, fellowshipping together eternally. Shalom! ~ “Rabbi” Yehudah Mordechai (Mark W. Hart) Sha’arei Toran Messianic Cong.
