Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo

Walk On The Water

And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. —Matthew 14:29 When you look at your cares and woes you can sink into despondency and despair. And fall beneath the weight of all you that you carry and see around you. These burdens are heavy. They threaten your very existence. They have the power to take you down and keep you down. What you need to do is learn to walk on the water. Stay on top of things. Look up and find the imprint of the Almighty in the heavens. Don’t sink. And don’t let the negatives of your life overpower your view. Look around or look up. Choose. Walk on the water or sink into the abyss of trouble and turmoil. Choose. Don’t let the strong winds blowing at you frighten you. Though they blow, they cannot capsize your life. Live on the surface. Don’t sink. Stay on top. God is in charge of all things. He has the power to turn any situation around and to right any wrong. Keep your eyes on him. He is above and beneath. He is higher than the heavens and deeper than the seas. If you fall, he will pick you up. If you wait on him, he will come through. If you place your trust in him, he will never fail you. Stay on top. Walk on the water. Don’t look at the waves crashing or the wind swept sea.

Put your faith in God. He will never let you down. Power Magazine n November 2015

THE CHURCH TEA

OUR OWN FAULT

But remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. Deutoronomy 8:18 Recently, I had the opportunity to meet and talk with Mr. Bill Gazaha, owner of the KFC restaurant located at 7306 McLean Blvd., Parkville, Maryland. He has owned and abided by the KFC franchised rules for nine years, and employed thirty (30) local people from the Parkville area. While this proves “it can and is being done”, it also is testament to our continuing economic struggle. As a model for black enterprise and for what our children can accomplish with hard work, it would seem like such efforts should be celebrated, yet Mr. Gazaha believes that some franchise corporations have systematically shut down franchised restaurants owned by African-Americans. Mr. Gazaha indicated that his friend had a profitable franchise for years that was also shut down. And apparently, out of the thousands of franchises, only a handful are owned by African-Americans. That’s a miniscule amount of ownership considering the amount of stores located in our communities. Lack of ownership and lack of support for the ownership we get, this is our “own” fault! We must take responsibility for ownership. We must change our mindset and take notice of the stores and corporations that do not support our children or us. Here again, we must demand our churches to step up for direction, leadership and guidance. Any church that does not have a directory of the members that own legitimate businesses in their congregation is contributing to the economic disaster of its own community. At least give members options to support each other financially. There should also be a fund set aside to purchase local properties from members who lose homes in tax sales

due to financial hardships. It is crucial for minority people to jump on the financial bandwagon. Other communities capitalize on us because we are perpetual consumers of goods and services marketed to us. However, we cannot remain ignorant to sobering facts that keep us stagnant in our own economic development. Almost to a fault, we selectively support businesses owned by other racial groups even when they have distinguished themselves in different business ventures. Is it a surprise if Asians have the hair products locked down? ... Indians franchise the convenience stores? ... Arabs run the oil industries? ... And Hispanics have taken over the lawn care business? How long will we as a people remain the perfect consumers for people who will not spend their money on us or for us? Mr. Gazaha has agreed to be a guest on “The Power Magazine Radio Show”. So be sure to join in the discussion on WOLB 1010AM, Fridays from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. as Rev. Wingo and I discuss current events and interesting topics in the faith based communities. Email me: annwilliams@ ramovers.com.
