Think On These Things By Reverend Juanita G. Wingo
Stop…In the Name of Love! Love covers a multitude of sins. —1 Peter 4:8
If you are looking for the perfect place to live, to work, to form relationships, to make friends to raise a family, you can stop looking. What will happen is you will find a place, a person, a group of friends, a job and something will happen that you don’t like, can’t agree with, have a problem with, and you will quit, you will leave, you will start looking again and your search starts all over again. There is no such thing as perfection. There will always be something…something wrong, something missing, something not up to your standards, something you don’t like, wherever you go, whoever you are with, whatever you are doing. There will always be flaws. If you walk in love wherever you are, wherever you go, with whoever you are with, the love you carry will cover the flaws. After a while, you won’t focus on the flaws and you can be content wherever you are, wherever you work, whoever you are with, and whatever you do. The big picture takes in the forest and love looks past the trees. So, stop looking. Stay put. Learn to live with the flaws.

THE CHURCH TEA
SWEPT AWAY
Why are thy valiant men swept away? they stood not, because the LORD did drive them. ~ Jeremiah 46:15 The United States 2016, Hillary Clinton (D) versus Donald Trump (R), presidential election is now eminent. It will be our first woman president or our first billionaire president. And no matter your political affiliation – Democrat, Republican, Libertarian or Green - the election has seen unprecedented events. Like never before, this election has dropped into gutter politics. Can anyone old enough to vote recall a time when a presidential debate was reduced to an episode of a tabloid TV talk show with the name-calling and blatant disregard for intellectual protocol? I could even consider giving a hall pass on some prior indiscretions. But when a woman is called not attractive enough to fondle … well that is just “rude”! To be fair, both candidates have made missteps. Rehashing them is like beating a dead horse. Notwithstanding, if Barack Obama, our current lame duck president, had engaged in any such behavior, he probably would have never been elected. It is clearly apparent that the same rules just don’t apply. I guess sometimes anger clouds good judgment? To quote a tee-shirt sold at one rally, “Make America White Again”. Yes, free speech applies to everyone, even the disgruntled. So, before emotion can overtake you and you are swept away by either side, please check the facts. You may be surprised to learn what your candidate said that is “not correct”. Also familiarize yourself with the questions you will vote on, depending on the county you live in. Baltimore County will have twelve questions on the ballot. Baltimore City will have eleven questions. PG County will have eight questions. Anne Arundel County will have seven questions. Montgomery County will have four questions. Howard County will three questions. Harford and Carroll Counties will each have two questions. Calvert and Cecil Counties will each have one question. It’s your duty as a concerned citizen to
review your questions in advance and make a knowledgeable decision for or against each. This election year has prompted honest discussion on racial intolerance in America. Hopefully, in the future, there will be less talk of racial inequality and more direct conversation on “economic empowerment”. As our churches provide the first organized line of action in our communities for economic justice, “hold your churches harmless and do business with each other”. Learn what services, hobbies or skill sets are among the people you worship with every Sunday. Yes, there will always be some naysayers that will not appreciate the effort or understand the cause. Unfortunately, until we get this right we will always be on the wrong side of the political spectrum “asking for what we need instead of telling the candidates what we must have and expect”. Lastly, however you vote, our real commitment must be to our faith and our deep spiritual connection to God’s plan for whoever is chosen to be the leader of the United States of America. Until next time be sure to listen via cell phone, radio or internet to me & Rev. Wingo on WOLB 1010 Fridays from 121:00 p.m. Email me: annwilliams@ramovers.com.
