Council and staff are working hard within our community to rebuild following the economic impacts of the pandemic. Development is booming with 1,500 new residential units approved in 2021. Council’s incentives are working and have attracted investment in 300,000 square feet of approved construction of commercial, industrial, and institutional space last year. With newly reconstructed downtowns in Lindsay and Fenelon Falls, and the Bobcaygeon Beach Park to be completed this year, We are moving, ever closer, to our vision of a thriving and growing community. This is our year. From our beautiful trails, parks, arenas, and vibrant downtowns, there’s so much to be excited about this year. People of all generations are flocking to Kawartha Lakes. About Bobcaygeon
Bobcaygeon is a Trent-Severn Trail Town located along the 386 km Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site of Canada connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Huron. Boat, paddle, cycle, hike or drive along this renowned inland passageway through historic lock stations and into quaint communities with unique offerings for every visitor. Bobcaygeon is three islands joined by seven bridges. Just 90 minutes northeast of the Greater Toronto Area, the town is set on a narrow strip of land between Pigeon and
Sturgeon Lakes, two of the most scenic lakes in the Kawarthas. Hiking Wilderness Park is unique to Bobcaygeon as there are no other forested parks of this nature in the community. The park will be open to hiking, cycling, cross country skiing, and nature interpretation, with trails that are built to best practice standards and accessible to all, including those that are physically challenged. It is hoped that, in time, the park will be expanded in size and linked to other hiking/cycling trails in the community. Cycling The back roads and Victoria Rail Trail are used by cyclists as a great way to get up close and personal with Mother Nature. There are other trail options in the area. You can contact the Kawartha Cycling Club (kawarthacyclingclub. com) for more information about cycling in Bobcaygeon and area or to join one of their special events and excursions. Snowmobiling If winter sports are more your thing, connect with the Kawartha Lakes Snowmobile Club (www.klsc.ca). They can give you information about their OFSC prescribed trails that will take you to a number of towns in the area. Their trail system joins Heart of Ontario to the south and west, Haliburton Snowmobile Association to the north and Twin Mountains to the East. Get out and enjoy the majestic scenery of the area in winter. You can pick up your season’s pass at www.ofsc. on.ca.
Both local residents and visitors will agree, there is no place in Ontario quite like the Kawartha Lakes. With a vibrant arts sector you can listen to concerts in the park, find unique local artisan products and not to mention the breathtaking waterfront trails along the TrentSevern Waterway and scenic nature walks throughout the region. If you haven’t explored Kawartha Lakes, this year the Ontario government is providing a great opportunity to do so with the Ontario Staycation Tax Credit. This tax credit allows Ontario residents to claim 20 per cent of their eligible 2022 accommodation expenses and individuals can get back up to $200 or $400 as a family. Whether it’s rest and relaxation you’re looking for, some great local shopping or entertainment, you’ll find it all right here in the Kawartha Lakes!
