Welcome to Buckhorn, a Trent-Severn Trail Town located in the heart of the Kawarthas. Lock 31, located in the middle of town, is the busiest lock on the TrentSevern Waterway. In 2021, almost 8,000 vessels went through Lock 31, exploring the beauty of the Kawartha Lakes and beyond. Buckhorn offers small-town charm and friendly people. From the staff at Lock 31 to the stranger you may meet in the street, we take pride in the place we call home. For nature lovers, there are many trails and routes as well as Ontario’s largest park south of Algonquin – Kawartha Highlands Signature Site.

A community that gives respect to its past, Buckhorn was once home to many settlers and workers in the sawmill industry. Today, you can still find remnants of the logging throughout our lakes and rivers that brought them here.

Rich in arts and culture, the Buckhorn area prides itself in exposing you to an award-winning winery, galleries and unique shops. The Welcome Centre, run by the Buckhorn & District Tourist Association is a short walk from Lock 31 and offers a wealth of information about the area as well as souvenir clothing.

Most accommodations in Buckhorn offer lakeside living or are just a short stroll from the waterfront. You can find quaint bed-and-breakfast establishments, resorts with lodge living or rustic cottages. Whether you’re here for a romantic getaway or a family reunion, there’s a place to call your home away from home.
