HAPPY UAE NATIONAL DAY! DONATE A TOY ‘Tis the season to give back! In collaboration with Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts across the Middle East, donate educational toys to our ‘Goods for Good’ campaign in partnership with Red Crescent. Research by the Institute for Early Education suggests that toys play a vital role in the development of children; without them, necessary skills may not develop. Therefore, we pledge to donate AED10 for every kilo of goods collected. This campaign is in line with Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ quest to deliver hospitality from the heart to guests every day while also treating surrounding communities with the same hospitality.
This month, we are celebrating the 47th National Day of the UAE! The National Day in the UAE is celebrated on December 2 each year. This holiday marks the day the emirates banded together at Union House (now Etihad Museum) to form the United Arab Emirates in 1971. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was the country’s first president. What are the names of the seven emirates? Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain. Who designed the flag? The designer of the UAE flag is Abdullah Mohammed Al Maainah. More than a thousand entries were submitted into a competition to design the country’s flag, and after a process of elimination, it was his design that was chosen as the winning entry. The flag was hoisted above Mushrif Palace in 1971.

Noah toured his first one man show in 2009 and his second show ‘The Racist’ was a sold out run at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe that became one of the most talked about shows at the Festival that year. Noah has already performed to a sold out audience in December 2017 at du Forum, on Yas Island and is no stranger to the region, as he has performed multiple times to sell out shows in the UAE. This exhibition spreads knowledge on graphic design from the Arab region through exhibitions and specialised talks and workshops, and reveals the vibrancy of poster language that is deeply embedded in the culture of the Arab world, beyond just its visuals. Poster language, along with its urgency and loudness, looks a lot like the overwhelming intensity of our maximalist culture, both contemporarily and historically. The winning posters are rewarded with a travelling exhibition that stops in several countries within the Arab world, starting with Abu Dhabi.
