REALTORS® in Nova Scotia don’t just buy and sell houses – they help build them too!

From May 15-19, the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS® (NSAR) and Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia partnered together for the first REALTORS® Build Week. REALTORS® from across Nova Scotia worked together to help build a home for a family in Oxford, Nova Scotia.

Through the Habitat for Humanity Affordable Homeownership Program families in Nova Scotia can apply for a build project to become a homeowner. Once approved, families put in at least 500 volunteer hours building the home alongside volunteers and professionals and Habitat provides interest-free mortgages geared towards their income. The families they partner with are willing and ready to take on the responsibility of homeownership through dedication, perseverance, and hard work.

Throughout the week, REALTORS® worked alongside professional contractors and the homeowners to install drywall, excavate and build a front deck. The home is expected to be completed later this summer, but NSAR’s support for Habitat won’t stop there. This fall, REALTORS® will take up the Stud-a-Thon challenge –purchasing studs to decorate and install in the next Habitat home in Nova Scotia.
