As I’m out and about, I’m always trying to catch a glimpse of the features that make living in Franklin so special. The view of the sun rising above the fog that settles into the valleys from atop Winding Stairs Gap is one of my favorites. Another is the sun setting to the west of town, dipping behind Wayah Bald, painting the sky with beautiful hues of pink, orange and purple. Or a ride on 64 East after a night of heavy rain, to see the power of the Cullasaja River as it roars through the gorge on its way from Highlands to Franklin. These are just a sampling of the awesome natural features that make living here so special! Chances are, if you’ve picked up this issue, these mountains have appealed to you in a lot of the same ways as they have to me.
