Sa unang linggo ng nasabing workshop ay nagbahagi si Louie Rey Villegas, ang head layout artist at Rinards Pamintuan, ang Patnugot sa IngatYaman, kung paano ang pagdidisenyo ng dyaryo. Itinuro nila sa mga mag-aaral ang iba’t-ibang feature ng publisher at kung paano ito gamitin sa pagdidisenyo.

Si Kyrylle Jane Ocampo, ang News editor at Rachel Rodriguez, ang Photojournalist ay nagbahagi rin ng kaalaman sa kanikanilang kasanayan sa kanilang posisyon sa pahayagan.

Ayon kay Dizon, naging masaya ang kanilang pagbabahagi ng kaalaman sapagkat ang pagbibigay ng kaalaman sa mga bata ang pangunahing layunin ng mga gurong mamamahayag tulad nila. Masaya [kamj] dahil gustong-gusto talaga namin na magturo o magbahagi ng aming kaalaman at karanasan sa pamamahayag, sa mga bata na magiging kinabukasan ng kanikanilang pahayagan.” saad ni Dizon.

Binigyan naman sila ng pagkilala ng FGNMHS noong ika-tatlo ng Pebrero taong 2023 sa kanilang isinagawang programa. Ang programang ito ay sumasalamin sa layunin ng Reple na buhayin at pagyamanin ang kaalaman at pagmamahal ng mga mag-aaral sa pamamahayag. Dahil para sa Reple, “Lagi’t lagi para sa Bata, para sa Bayan”.

HAU-SEd held its inaugural Pinning Ceremony for Batch 2023 last January 27 at the SJH Academic Hall in honor of the graduating teachers’ commitment to professionalism and continual learning as they step up for the internship.

Graduating students pledged to an Oath of Professionalism of Pre-Service Teachers under the direction of Dr. Raymond Patterson, the college's supervisor of SEd interns and faculty, after receiving printed pins to commemorate the fulfillment of their teaching practicum.

In the introductory remarks, Dr. Alma Natividad, dean of the School of Education, said that the pinning ceremony represents the graduating educators’ accomplishments in completing the academic requirements, along with the trust given to pre-service teachers by HAU-SEd as they prepared to manage and facilitate their classes.

“The pin is not just an ornament or a part or decoration to complete your uniform. May the pin may always remind you of your mission as future educators" she added.

The School of Education (SEd) students of Holy Angel University attended the virtual Philippine Association for Teachers and Educators (PAFTE)Region III webinar on February 18 via Zoom meetings.

The annual PAFTE webinar, with the year’s theme “Keeping the Passion Alive,” is geared toward preservice teachers. It features two parts and one resource speaker, Mr. Narcy Ador Dionisio.

In the first part of the webinar, Mr. Dionisio discussed how teachers should keep their passion alive in the field of teaching. He also emphasized the importance of classroom management and strategies that teachers must possess to maintain a positive classroom environment.

different institutions around Region 3. Angeles University Foundation (AUF), Central Luzon State University (CLSU), and Tarlac Agricultural University (TAU) were among the institutions that shared their best internship practices.

The Dean of the School of Education and the Chair of PATFE Region 3, Dr. Alma Natividad graced the event with her welcome remarks and rationale, followed by the inspirational message of Dr. Elmer De Leon.

After the first part of the webinar, an open forum was conducted to answer the queries of the attendees, preceded by the awarding of a certificate for the speaker.

Dr. Angelica Cortez hosted the event, with Dr. Conrad Buerkley serving as the moderator. Dr. Regidor Gaboy then concluded the event with his closing remarks.

The PAFTE webinar provided insights and strategies for sustaining a passion for teaching making it an enriching experience for SEd students and other attendees.

HAU excels in the 2023 ASEAN AppliedHE Ranking

Holy Angel University (HAU) secured top rankings in various criteria in the Philippines in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) AppliedHE Private University Ranking on February 23, 2023.

HAU maintains its good quality of Teaching and Learning, Employability, Research, Community Engagement, and Institutional Reputation.

Within the Philippines, HAU achieved the first spot in Research and Community Engagement, as well as the second place in Employability and Reputation.

The university was ranked eighth in Research, sixth in Community Participation, ninth in Employability, and eleventh in Reputation in the ASEAN region based on various performance factors from multiple data sources.

HAU ranks 18th in overall score gaining 56.27 as its total scoring, the ranking criteria prioritize teaching and learning quality (40%), employability (15%), and research (15%).

The scope and rating criteria of the ranking are unique and only private colleges in (ASEAN) nations that provide locally authorized degrees are included in the list.

As part of data gathering, the dean of the School of Education, Dr. Alma Natividad, sent the survey link to different Eduk related group chats, last December 2022, which was also posted on the Canvas.

The universities that have also joined and earned a spot in the AppliedHE Ranking include the University of Santo Tomas, the University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, Saint Louis University, Xavier University - Ateneo de Cagayan, Saint Mary's University of Bayombong, and Centro Escolar University.

Prior to the proper pinning, the Practice Teaching Uniform Committee (PTUC) were honored for their dedication and efforts to head the Practice Teaching Uniform and Necessities formed by the Chairperson of SEd, Johannes De Guzman.

Earlier that day, the graduating students, their parents, and the SEd faculty gathered at the HAU Chapel at 9 a.m. for the Send Off Mass with Fr. Mark Anthony Torre Carreon who presided over the liturgy.

The practice teaching students are now allowed to start their internship at the same university.

HAU honors influential people on Founder’s Day

Holy Angel University (HAU) recognized six individuals for their outstanding contributions and achievements in various fields during the Founder’s Day Awards last March 8, at the HAU Theater.

The awardees were alumnus, a retiree, a Kapampangan artist, a Kapampangan scholar, and two Filipinos who advocate Catholic education and community.

John C. De Leon, Francisco G. Adviento, and Rhodora Angela F. Ferrer, received the Order of St. Gabriel, the Order of St. Raphael, and the Order of St. Michael, respectively.

There was also Juan D. Nepomuceno Cultural awards which were given to Eusebio Z. Dizon who earned the Cultural Awards for Kapampangan Research and Scholarship, and Ramon C. David who received the Cultural Awards for the Arts.

Ramon Guillermo R. Tuazon was also granted the Laus Deo Semper Awards for Community Service.

The HAU 90th Founder’s Day Awards Ceremony commenced with the grand entrance of the awardees and the Board of Trustees, followed by the welcoming remarks of OIC President Mr. Leopoldo Jaime N. Valdes.

In his speech, Mr. Valdes acknowledged the past awardees and employees who have contributed to the success of the institution and congratulated the current awardees on their well-deserved recognition.

“As you will see you stand on the shoulders of both prestigious and humble employees and awardees of the past years, the honor is rightfully yours,” he said.

Protest against PUVMP: Jeepney drivers show dismay through transport strike

The Philippines’ transport groups joined the weeklong strike from March 6 to March 12, to protest the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), which involves phasing out of traditional jeepneys.

The program was introduced by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to the former President Rodrigo Duterte back in 2017 following Department Order (D.O.) No. 2017-011 or the Omnibus Guidelines on the Planning and Identification of Public Road Transportation Services and Franchise Issuance. It aims to provide Filipinos with a secure, dependable, practical, and environmentally friendly transportation system that complies with international standards.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is in charge of implementing the program, which requires all old jeepneys to be replaced with newer models that are more eco-friendly and convenient for the public to use.

Yet, with these comforts air conditioning, GPS tracking, a larger commuter capacity, and automated fare collection there are still various flaws in this program that cause drivers’ frustration. The P2.8 million cost of each jeep, combined with a lack of government funds and support, could put them in debt for years or, worse, lose their jobs if they do not merge with enterprises or unions by June 30.

In response, several provinces and cities united for the rally, including Manibela (Streering Wheel) and Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide, or Piston (the Coalition of Drivers and Operators Nationwide). Nevertheless, the Federation of Central Luzon Transport Organizations, composed of 16 organizations from the provinces of Pampanga, Tarlac, Bataan, Zambales, and Nueva Ecija, chose not

to participate.

Drivers’ anger and disappointment at the authorities’ neglect toward the cries and suffering of the operators led to their public but harmless protest, which imposed an interference among schools. It forced them to transition to either online or modular classes for a weeklong period.

Among the locations that were affected by the strike was the highly urbanized City of Angeles. As for the city government’s remedy in terms of the academic matter, in-person classes of schools, colleges, and universities including Holy Angel University, got suspended, while modular or online classes were suggested to try to keep the academic calendar uninterrupted.

OWLS take part in UDAYS 2023 F2F

The SED students participated in the first face-to-face University Days on March 8-11 since the pandemic happened.

Teacher education students from different year levels and majors decided to come together as they represent their department. For academic activity Kimberly Alfaro represents the SEd community in Ted Talk. While in non-academic activity, the Mr. and Ms. HAU render a shimmering stadium with their production number, showcasing their gorgeous visuals and sultry walk.

Candidates from the School of Education, Sean Andrei Valencia and Estine Raigne De Jesus, didn’t budge on the competition along with their co-candidates and gave their best in representing their department, which the whole School of Education proudly cheered on.

The Singing Competition was represented by Charles Robles Galang when he sang Go the Distance and enlightened the stage with his soft medley. SEd also moved their groove for the Best Dance Group, composed of Cathleen Pineda, Dave Semsem, Jenavin Gallardo, Jhazmine Laurice Gopez, Kyla Yvette Gonzales, Rinards Pamintuan, Rio Vicente Mow, and Covie Salamatin.

The competition was full of chuckles from the contestants' copy-and-paste performances by the five departments, namely the SAS, SBA, SED, SOC, and SEA, where they all presented their amusing skits as they made the audience ache their backs and cheeks with laughter.

The School of Education parades with their iconic mascot "Owla" and their stunning arch, featuring "San Juan Festival". The SED council together with the volunteers build the arch of the parade and joined in the parade.

Isabella Serrano, who represents the department in the chess competition, although she faced defeat against the different representatives during the LOGICA: Tournament of the Brains, still fought until the end for her department, even after losing multiple times to her opponents. As for the E-sports, the gamers who fought for their victory were Aaron Arceo, Alessandra Valencia, John Amiel Espinosa, Andrew Santiago, Joemar Wells, Maxinne Angela Salunga, and Sean Andrei. They earned their first victory in e-games by defeating the SAS Eagles 2-1 in the first elimination round of Mobile Legend but failed to advance to the semi-finals.

The Owls struggled to catch up in their first preliminary basketball game against the CCJEF Panthers, and they were eliminated from going to the semi-finals after surrendering at the end of the 3rd quarter in basketball against Basic Education. The players of the team were Rafael Ocampo, Darryl De Los Santos, Brian Belarmino, John Amiel Espinosa, Khyann Santero, Vince Renzo Yabut, Ethan Dimatalo, Sherwin Nieves, Dexter Gomez, Kiel Ayson, and Huie Castro.

The Owls also fought hard during their last game against the dolphins, panthers, and lions. After SEd suffered their first loss against the SBA Dolphins, the SEd players once again beat the Panthers. But then the Eduk students could not make it to the finals as they lost both sets of the game against the SEA Lions. The members of the team were Adrian Dela Cruz, JM David, Joshua Nuevo, Keanu Malig, Khyann Santero, Louie Rey Villegas, Matthew De San Andres, James Darryll Delos Santos, Rafael Benedict Ocampo, and Troy John Rei Bautista.

The president of Scienzophiliacs, Adrianna Ocampo, finds the university days a rewarding experience. "The outcomes were not favorable, but the SEED students' unexpected unity prevailed. Participating teams in every competition have succeeded due to their ability to create solid relationships by asking for and incorporating feedback from others and, most importantly, by exhibiting companionship towards one another regardless of the outcome."

Owls faced their severe defeat during the current University days as compared for the past years of their reign in the said event. On the other hand, the other pillar of the SEd community, The Reflection, its official publication, waved their success during the University Press Conference.

Four angelites qualify for the AYLC panel interview

Four outstanding student leaders were announced as qualifiers for the Ayala Youth Leaders Congress (AYLC) online panel interview last March 9, 2023.

Among the 195 qualifiers coming from different Universities and Colleges across the country, four student-leaders from Holy Angel University were chosen, all striving for a spot in the prestigious leadership summit.

One of the SEd student-leaders, Keanu Malig, was with Shejanira Arcilla and Augie Noah Mendez from the School of Business and Accountancy (SBA), and Kenneth De Guzman from the College of Criminology and Forensics (CCJEF) in successfully securing a place for AYLC.

According to Malig, the AYLC gave them enough preparation in completing all the requirements. He also mentioned how challenged he felt being among the qualifiers.

He said that his purpose for joining is to partner with AYLC and use it as a platform to accomplish his plans in empowering the youth, the basic education and literacy in the Philippines, and the community services at the national level.

“This will be a major challenge for me and the rest of the qualifiers to utilize this big-time opportunity to empower more youth leaders and contribute to fostering change in the community at large through concrete and effective programs and projects,” he added.

The Eduk student has bigger plans for continuous service to the community. He emphasized, “I would like to seek out bigger partnerships involving national organizations, formations, and companies to aid and help us in realizing our goals. Through this, we are taking our Angelite leadership to the next level. We are now making a difference both inside and outside the HAU community. Lagi’t lagi para sa bata, at para sa bayan!”

Reple triumphs in UPC 2023

The Reflection, the official student publication of the School of Education, Holy Angel University, garnered five awards from the recent University Press Conference 2023 (UPC), held on March 8-9 at the Peter G. Nepomuceno Building.

The UPC is a two-day journalism competition between HAU’s college publications, with the theme, “Defend Press Freedom: Strengthening Campus Journalism as a Catalyst for Social Change.” The first day was the competition proper while the second day was the awarding ceremony.

The Reflection brought home a total of five awards. Three Reple staffers were recognized individually for their outstanding performance in their respective categories. Kyrylle Jane Ocampo, Marae Yvonne Felicity Gueco, and Leah Amor Manalo won the Champion

awards in the categories of News, Literary, and Sports Writing, respectively.

The staffers' combined efforts also earned them a group award for Collaborative Desktop Publishing, where they secured the 2nd runner-up spot. The said award was given to the team of Mary Joyce Dizon, Michaela Noreen Elizalde, Jessale Joie Pandato, Rinards Pamintuan, and Louie Rey Villegas. Aside from the individual and group awards, The Reflection also brought home one major award: Overall 2nd Runner-up.

The other representatives are Rachel Rodriguez for Photojournalism, John Michael David for Editorial Cartooning and Humor, and Trisha Denise Dimabuyu for Science and Technology.

The Angelite, the official student publication of Holy Angel University, spearheaded this year’s competition. The Reflection took part in the UPC alongside other college publications namely The Access Point, The Enterprise, The Nexus, and The Solution.

SEd catechists kick off on-site formation session

Second-year students from Holy Angel University’s (HAU) School of Education (SEd) held an on-site formation session on the spirituality of catechists at SJH Academic Hall on March 24, 2023.

The event was spearheaded by the Religious and Values Education (RVE) major with the guidance of the two faculties-in-charge, Dr. Cecilia Teodoro and Ma’am Lorna Tyson.

The Return: SEd recognizes the achievers face-to-face

The School of Education (SEd) honored over 193 first semester Dean’s and President’s listers in person for the first time after two years, last March 29 at Holy Angel University’s (HAU) Theater.

During the ceremony, the University OIC President Mr. Leopoldo Jaime N. Valdes delivered an enlightening speech, highlighting the nobility of the education profession.

“Your goal is not just learning but also developing yourself for others because we develop others,” he added.

Following that, Dr. Al D. Biag, the OIC Vice President of Academic Affairs, joined the SEd heads namely Dr. Mutya Paulino, the Program Chairperson, and Dean Alma M. Natividad in awarding the certificates.

Despite facing numerous challenges throughout the semester, SEd students were overjoyed to receive their first face-to-face award after succeeding in their studies.

The formation session marked the first face-to-face recollection since the pandemic began and was divided into two sessions, each featuring a high-caliber speaker.

The first speaker, Prof. Maylin Bayza from the Institute for Christian Formation and Social Integration (ICFSI), discussed the Spirituality of Catechists based on the National Catechetical Directory of the Philippines (NCDP). The second speaker, Prof. Dan Christopher Culala, also from the ICFSI, talked about the Lenten Recollection in relation to the Spirituality of a Catechist.

Mr. Joemar Wells, the President of Religious and Values Educators (RVE), suggested increasing student engagement, whereas Vice President of the University Student Council Maria Angelica Torres said the event left her feeling “revitalized or rejoiced” and added, “nakaka-overwhelm, parang first time mo ulit marecognized kasi diba ngayon face-to-face na siya compare na online lang masaya siya chaka fulfilling sa part natin”.

[It’s overwhelming. It’s like the first time you’ll be recognized again since it's now face-to-face rather than online, and it makes us happy and fulfilled].

Also, in an interview with the program organizers, CSC -SEd Maria Angelucha Hebres, Kyla Yvette Gonsalez, and Khrestan Reign Silva expressed their happiness at seeing the SEd students’ smiles despite the unexpected changes. Regardless of the event’s sudden shifts, they all rated it as satisfactory.

The program concluded with a message on behalf of the awardees delivered by Ms. Kimberly Alfaro, a current third-year BSEd English student. SEd students from various levels and the chosen family member or guardian who could attend the highlighting event were also present at the event. The education students are now keeping an eye out for the upcoming recognition for the second semester of Academic Year 2022-2023.

Following the discussions, the event moved onto a question and answer portion, where Ms. Rinards Pamintuan, a representative of English majors, shared her learnings and insights.
