A Women On A Archetypal Journey

Elizabeth M. Ibarra is an award-winning artist, art instructor, healing jewelry designer, mystic guide, writer, a singer-songwriter with her musician husband and a full-time Mom.

I grew up on the island of Nantucket off the coast of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It was there that my deep fascination with mythology, folklore and painting began. I knew at an early age that working with my imagination and creativity would be my life’s dream and passion. I was raised and mostly homeschooled in an environment of self-empowerment by entrepreneurial parents. “Know thyself” is a powerful phrase which my intuitive Mom urged all of us to look at; with its varied complexities and meanings. I was encouraged to follow my own path; to be my own hero and to not worry about “fitting in”. Being the youngest of five siblings has been a powerful archetypal influence in my life which helped me develop confidence in expressing my individuality. My professional musician Papa helped me find my voice as a young singer and to play guitar when I discovered my love of music by The Beatles.I as instilled with further confidence as a performer by my Mom who was trained in acting. They arranged for me to study with professional artists and supported me in going to Interlochen Arts Academy for my freshman year of high school. I also developed an entrepreneurial spirit from working with my parents; from a beautiful B&B on Nantucket, to a restaurant in Asheville, NC, to working and living at their former organic farm and 1913 farmhouse (which they beautifully restored and remodeled) and as a house Traveling in Europe and living on an island in Greece with my parents when I was eleven inspired me greatly. Visiting Athens, touring the acropolis and museums has continued to influence me to this day. My love of Greek mythology and the magic of the Olympian pantheon was heightened by the experience of walking among the ruins and statues. There is an ancient magic there; something which I feel a deep connection to. It is what inspires me to study, work with and paint the archetypes from Greek mythology. In early 2008, I arrived at a place in my life where I knew I wanted to experience an adventure. After selling a co-owned property with my parents; I had savings to use for something special. I remembered the experience of visiting Mexico with my Mom the year before. She suggested that I go to the arts city of San Miguel de Allende where we have a family contact. I found the perfect casita to rent and headed o to have a bohemian artist experience, to begin learning the language and make new friends (which I did). My family there connected me with an elderly, expat matron of the arts. I had the privi-

lege of inventorying her extensive art collection which included works by Rivera, Siqueiros and Cuevas. “Don’t imitate anyone else; paint in your own style” she told me and I took it to heart. It was during my time in San Miguel de Allende that I developed my own style of written archetypal readings called Life Interpretations and started giving tarot readings professionally. I met my future husband three weeks after arriving. I saw a poster for a concert which a friend translated; “the best John Lennon Impersonator from Mexico”. As a

major fan of The Beatles, I had to go. When “John Leo” walked on stage, picked up his guitar and began to sing; it was love at rst sight. He sang to me during the concert; the beginning of our adventure. Later that year I moved to Mexico City to start our lives together. Our journey took us to Asheville in 2009 where we were married, worked on my parent’s farm and with my Papa remodeling houses. We eventually made the decision to leave NC for Leonel to nd work in his eld as a programmer. With support from our family; we moved to the Imperial Valley, CA where I became part of the thriving arts culture. I am a Distinguished Artist of Calexico, CA; honoring my years of work as an artist, art instructor, artisan jewelry designer and singer in their community and the neighboring desert city where we reside. I have always loved jewelry and crystals. My healing, empowering one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces featuring; wire wrapped crystals and semi-precious stones are available for purchase via Etsy. I oer virtual tarot readings, Life Interpretations and painting commissions through my website. Leonel and I are currently recording our rst Indie Rock album and are quarantining with our adorable three-year-old son.
