Bisque socket head, blue glass spiral-threaded eyes, lushlypainted lashes, brushstroked brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with downcast lips, pierced ears, ash blonde mohair wig, Sonneberg composition and wooden fully-jointed body, antique costume, undergarments, tiny antique leather shoes. Marks: 0. Comments: Sonneberg, circa 1880, the doll closely resembles the Bru bébé known as “circle-dot” whose market the doll attempted to capture. Value Points: most endearing doll with wonderfully expressive features, especially rare in this tiny size. $800/1100

The double-shelved etagere with curved tripod pedestal base is laden with a bounty of ormolu miniatures including vase, double-handled urns, framed lithograph, gramophone. Excellent condition. 4. Very Fine Viennese Porcelain and Bronze Miniatures 5” (13 cm.) urns. 4 ½” clock. Comprising a pair of hand-painted porcelain urns with cast bronze bases and elaborate handles. With rare mantel clock featuring four porcelain columns centering a clock with glass dome front, Viennese porcelain base enclosed in cast bronze frame, two bronze Cupids posed atop. Bisque socket head, blue glass sleep eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, brushstroked and feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with accented details, blonde mohair wig over plaster pate, composition and wooden six-loose-ball-jointed body with straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 14. Comments: Kestner, circa 1885, the model is known as “A.T. Kestner” for its close resemblance to the French bébé by Thuillier marked A.T. which likely inspired this doll. Value Points: outstanding example of the rarely found model with pronounced clarity of sculpted nose and lips, very choice bisque, original wig, outstanding original body in near mint condition. 16. Outstanding Miniature 19th Century Boutique of Decorative Objects and Silver 22” (56 cm.) w. x 13”h. x 11’d. The wooden-framed open shop with angled sides has built-in shelves back and sides with painted finish to simulate marble and accented with gilt beading and decoupage trim, wooden parquet flooring, hanging tri-arm chandelier, matching ormolu framed mirrors on alternate walls. The shelves are laden with more than 60 miniature treasures including silver tea service, bird cage, tiny dolls in miniature silver chairs, Berlin porcelain statuary, collection of clocks, rare book press, and much more. Bisque socket head with flattened solid dome and rich amber-tinted complexion, brown glass inset eyes, long painted lashes, brushstroked and multi-feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with defined space between the shaded lips, pierced ears, long brunette human hair wig, amber tinted composition and wooden fully-jointed body, straight wrists. Condition: generally excellent. Marks: 121 8. Comments: Sonneberg, circa 1884, the model closely resembles Bru’s circle-dot model, whose market it aimed to capture. Value Points: the rarity of the model is matched by its gorgeous sculpting and luminous patina of golden-brown complexion, original body and body finish, wearing superb original burgundy silk and velvet dress, undergarments, knit stockings, leather shoes. $1800/2200

25. Very Rare German Pull-Toy Cow in Swiss Festival Costume 15” (38 cm.) l. Standing upon a wooden base with cast iron spoked wheels is a brown and white hide-covered cow with large brown glass eyes, horns, carved hooves and nose, and hide tail. The cow has original leather collar with brass bell, and is decorated with a bead-trimmed needlework collar accented with colorful braided ribbon streamers, and with a brass coronet with colorful wreath of flowers. regions of Switzerland, Germany and Austria traditionally celebrated Spring with the annual “ascent to the mountains” during which herds of cows and their shepherds single-filed the narrow mountain passes to reach the freshest grasses at the mountain peaks, where they feasted until August. At that time, they returned, single-file again, down the narrow passes to the villages below. The return to the villages (“descent from the mountains”, known as “Almabtrieb” in Austria and “Alpabfahrten” in Switzerland) was celebrated by merry festivals. The shepherds dressed in colorful traditional folklore costumes, and the greatest milk-producing cow was bedecked with flowers and a crown. Historical accounts have poetically described the event as “cow bells
across the meadows”. Value Points: very rare early toy with wonderful detail and historical background. $1600/2200

Porcelain shoulderhead with short black sculpted hair accentuated with feathered detail around the forehead, double chin, muslin stitch-jointed body, porcelain lower arms. 27. Two Early 19th Century Carved Wooden Figures from Grodnertal 14” (36 cm.) h. man. 9”l. donkey. Each of superbly-carved dark wood with rich patina of finish, including man in costume of early 1800s including top hat, long tail jacket, breeches, and with satchel and rifle, with maker’s initial H.A. on underside. And carved donkey with carved detail of harness and saddle and with two detachable baskets, a baby resting in one, and a bird and dish in the other, with old paper label on underside, indicating provenance to the estate of J. 28. Outstanding Early Apothecary Shop with Original Contents 34” (86 cm.) x 19” x 11”. The early wooden shop with angled sides has original painted ochre/

brown finish and is fitted with numerous cabinets, drawers and shelving around the three walls, and with matching counter which stands in the center of the wooden floor with original patterned finish. The store is lavishly filled with apothecary contents including a matched set of milk glass labeled jars which line the top shelf, dozens of glass bottles with intriguing herbal cures, and various labeled tin and cardboard containers, as well as scales, mortar and pestle, ladder, two skulls and a skeleton. A porcelain head man in blue uniform stands in attendance. The shop has original Apotheke name at the center top of back wall. Excellent condition. Germany, mid1800s. $3500/4500

30. French Mechanical “Bunny in the Cabbage” by Roullet et Decamps 11” (28 cm.) Emerging from the top of a paper mache cabbage, covered with fabric cabbage leaves, is a white fur-covered bunny with amber glass eyes, hinged ears, hinged jaw with red lips. When wound, music plays, the bunny turns side to side and his ears move up and down.
Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Roullet et Decamps, circa 1900. Value Points: wonderful state of preservation of the white bunny whose motions and music function well. $2500/3500

89. Unique French Postal Train Car with Original Provenance 13” (33 cm.) w. x 13”h. x 11”d. A wooden-framed railway car is finished with tinted straw in decorative manner to create wall murals, carpets, inlay furnishings, and walls in the interior, and slatted boards and window frames on the exterior. When opened, the interior room has built-in furnishings including table, reclining sofa with pillows, desk and work table with lamp and telephone, and a carpet is attached to the floor. The exterior has cast iron wheels, lamps, and other railway car apparatus. Very good/excellent condition. Included is an early ink script note describing the car which (translated) reads “Postal Wagon [made] in tinted straw, made by J. Gardon, retired courier of Paris mail, made in Saint Maur-les-Fosses, May 25, 1915” with J. Gardon signature. The French postal service historically used train cars known as post wagons, mostly integrated into passenger trains with sleeping and resting areas as well as office space. This unique and wonderfullyimaginative piece, with maker’s provenance, was one man’s celebration of his earlier working history. $1800/2500

The wooden two story dollhouse is painted original cream with hand-painted decorative borders, faux-marble painted side columns, grey paned windows on all sides, mansard roof (which removes for access to added European wiring for interior lights, not known if working), widow’s walk above the roof line, balconies on each side, lock and key for closing the front panels. In 1939, the American firm of Effanbee introduced a series of Historical Dolls depicting fashion through American history as symbolized in important events or times. The complete series of 30 dolls were designed to bring history alive to children, and, according to a booklet which was issued with each doll were “true replicas of the nationally famous exhibition series of Historical Dolls that Effanbee produced at a cost of over $30,000 and which are now being displayed in leading stores throughout the land”. Each of the dolls is 14”, all-composition with socket head having what Effanbee described as “satin-smooth complexion”, painted facial features, closed mouth and jointing at shoulders and legs, and each is marked “Effanbee AnneShirley”. Each is in excellent condition unless noted. 301. “1607 - Indian” in Kidskin Tunic with Beads 14” (36 cm.)
