Bisque shoulder head with very plump face, blonde sculpted hair arranged in long ringlet curls, brown glass inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth with center accent line, commercial muslin stitch-jointed body, plump bisque lower limbs, purple luster boots with tassel-trimmed stockings. Condition: generally excellent except left thumb restored, legs are matched design albeit right leg is one size larger and has reglue. 8. Early German Porcelain Lady Doll Known as Queen Victoria 15" (38 cm.) Porcelain shoulder head of adult lady with oval face and elongated throat, sloping shoulders with slightly-modeled bosom, black sculpted hair in center-part looped in front of her sculpted ears and forming into a chignon at the back of neck, painted small bright blue eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, single stroke brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, slender kid body in the so-called 'milliner model' style, wooden lower limbs, beautiful early gown and undergarments. Condition: generally excellent, some typical paint rubs at top of chignon. Comments: Germany, the model is referred to as Queen Victoria based on the stylistic coiffure, circa 1850.

Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, almond shaped pale blue enamel eyes with darker blue iris rims, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, arched feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with pale accented lips posed in a gentle smiling expression, pierced ears, blonde mohair wig over cork pate, kid poupĂŠe body with square cut collarette, gusset-jointing, wooden arms with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows and wrists, wearing exquisite antique silk and lace gown, undergarments, leather shoes signed C.C. and straw bonnet known as "a deux bonjours". Condition: generally excellent, sturdy original body with some typical paint scuffing on wooden hands. Marks: F (head and shoulders) Depose (front crown rim). Comments: the model was deposed by Leon Casimir Bru in 1873 which was the same year that this body, which combined Bru's kid and wooden body styles, was also deposed. 7" (18 cm.) The heavy stock base with fitted-bellows has original green paper cover and displays a young baby seated on a chamber pot. When the bellows is squeezed, the baby bounces up and down and a little squeak is heard. Condition: generally excellent, light rubs. Comments: Germany, circa 1875. Value Points: a delightful toy, the little baby has original finish and costume. $500/800


17. Rare German Bisque Lady with Sculpted Ribbon-Trimmed Snood 19" (48 cm.) Bisque shoulder head with rounded plump face, very pale complexion, blonde sculpted hair drawn away from her face and captured in a black painted snood with glazed white ribbons, painted bright blue eyes, red and black upper eyeliner, lightly-feathered brows, accented nostrils, closed mouth, antique muslin stitch-jointed body, antique handmade gown and undergarments. Condition: generally excellent. Comments: Germany, circa 1860, the model appears in porcelain as well as this unusual polished bisque material, and with several variations of decoration (see lots 97 and 98 this catalog). Value Points: rare model with well-painted and sculpted coiffure. $800/1100

Comments: the distinctive and artistic doll is known as Philadelphia Baby or Sheppard Baby in reference to the J.B. Sheppard Department Store of Philadelphia which sold the doll, circa 1900; the actual creator of the doll has never yet been identified. 24. American Papier-Mâché Rolly-Dolly by Schoenhut in Grand Size 15" (38 cm.) Two-piece papier-mâché figure depicting Dutch girl with sculpted Dutch cap over curly locks, painted facial features, wide beaming smile, painted teeth, attached to matching pear-shaped body with weighted rounded base

designed to prevent the "rolly-dolly" from tipping when pushed; the dolly has sculpted details of hands and painted costume. Condition: original finish, albeit scuffed and dusty, wear to lower throat. Comments: Schoenhut, circa 1910, from their extensive line of Rolly-Dollies, this being identical to doll model 305 and of a size that would form into the 16" doll that that model was. It is most likely that the model 305 head mold was used for this toy. Value Points: rare toy especially in this grand size, with original finish. $600/900

Felt head with firmly-pressed and painted facial features depicting a plump-faced smiling man with well-defined double chin, small brown side-glancing eyes, brown eye shadow, extended painted eye liner, dot brows, broad nose, painted teeth, wide beaming smile, the body form is a padded armature designed for use as tea cozy, and has shaped arms and hands at the front.
