What is The Voice? The Voice is one of three student produced publications at Robert Menzies College. Unlike The Echo or The Encore, and as The Voice is a more regularly published magazine, we focus on the day to day happenings of college, and the people that make RMC the great place that it is. Each issue will be filled with a summary of major college events, accompanied by photos, extra articles as well as the ‘resident favourite’ Wiretap section. Through these components we hope to show past, current and future residents not only the variety of events put on by RMC, but the wide array of personalities and talents who live here. As mentioned, The Voice is a student run publication - and that means we want to hear from YOU! If you have an idea for an article for The Voice, or something you want to share with the residents at college, or even just a piece of feedback - please get in touch through The Voice social media pages! We cannot wait to see what happens in 2020 at RMC, and we hope that The Voice can remain your first source of general college information throughout the year. - Jonathan and Annaliese

Summer Sesh

With a mocktail in one hand, and the first real opportunity for Freshers to get to know each other in a friendly environment, Summer Sesh was an opportunity to show off your supreme jenga abilities, dominate in beginners table tennis or get spiked in the face by a volleyball.

scav hunt Sydney beware! Fresher dances, fake proposals and fountains are what were in store for this year’s Scav Hunters! Characterised by legendary haircuts, and a ‘say yes to everything’ attitude, Scav Hunt 2020 was a riot, undoubtably forming some of the best and most lasting memories of your first week at RMC!

Dance off

The party really doesn’t stop till they walk in! A big congratulations to the 2020 Fresher cohort on a sixth dominant win over DLC in the annual dance off competition. With only 5 hours practice, and a classic Ke$ha tune blasting in the background they brought DLC down wowing with their impressive butt shimmying abilities and piercing the hearts of the audience with their darting stares. Make sure to check out the RMCSA facebook page to rewatch this glorious performance!

Movie Night reviewed Jed: ‘Inside Out was a great way to wrap up O-week. I’ll happily take any excuse to watch a children’s movie.’ Soto: ‘It was AWESOME!!! The movie eventually taught me how to get along with the father of the lover.’ Theresa: ‘I personally loved watching Inside Out as it was a relaxing and enjoyable way to end a very fun yet exhausting week.’

C M R h t i w p u g n i p e Ke movie edit Parasite Review by Carlos Parasite is a tour de force of filmmaking in every aspect, which is quite astounding given director Bong Joon-Ho’s filmography includes other masterpieces such as Mother and Memories of Murder. As is expected of Bong Joon-Ho, his films are excellently directed with prominent use of visual storytelling, with editing that enhances the intended effect of each scene, and tones that range from suspenseful to comedic. The story is refreshingly original and dialogue is subtle when it comes to providing exposition while leaving a lot of implications for the audience to piece together themselves. The characters are all multi-faceted, grounded and interesting, kept afloat by excellent performances all across the board, with Song Kang-Ho and Cho Yeo-Jeong being my personal favourites. Jung Jae-il’s score is fantastic, enhancing each scene without being distracting. In conclusion, Parasite, along with The Lighthouse, is my Thefavourite Voice . film Volume 1 A+ of 2019.

Tour de mac

After a hectic first week at college it would be fair to assume a calm tour of Macquarie University would be a welcome end to the week. However, that is not what this year’s Tour De Mac had ready for these worn out Freshers! Flour, eggs, condoms and cucumbers were some of the obstacles faced by the groups on their way to the end of a great orientation week! Good job to Dan’s group on the victory!

Bill’s Best Coffee edition Kin by Us is a refuge for my soul. I have easily spent more hours drinking their delicious bowls of coffee than attending class. With a mix of walnut and mahogany timbers that are brought to light by their quality bunnings fairy lights, you know this is a place of rest. This space instantly takes you away from the hussel and bussel of Sydney within a 5 minute walk from college. While their coffee is above average with some handy latte work, I highly recommend trying their BFF bun which actually gives a decent portion of bacon that any growing boy would desire. 4/5 Bills

Welcome to Canada Best Foods by Kat and jess Hi! I’m Kat from Canada, and my favourite foods from back home would have to be maple syrup taffy on snow, and iced coffee with no ice from Timmies (Tim Hortons). Maple syrup on taffy on snow is a sweet treat in which maple sap is boiled, and then poured over snow which freezes it. It is then rolled up on a popsicle stick. Iced coffee with no ice from Timmies is literally what it sounds like. It’s my favourite drink because regular coffee is too hot, and a coffee with ice will eventually be watered down when the ice melts. It also has to be from Timmies because they get it perfect every time!

Hey! I’m Jess from Canada, and these are a few of my favourite Canadian foods. First up is poutine. Poutine is kind of like the snack packs of Canada. The original poutine is fries with cheese curds and gravy. There are also many specialty places which offer different flavours of poutine like cheeseburger, BBQ pork and lots more! Timbits, from the world-famous Canadian chain Tim Hortons have to be my favourite sweet treat. Timbits are basically donut holes which come in different flavours. Personally, I really like the blueberry and birthday cake Timbits. Beaver tails are also another great Canadian sweet snack – consisting of a flat piece of fried dough dusted with sugar and cinnamon and various other toppings such as Oreos!
