Menzies Debate Debating in various forms has been part of human culture for a long time and can be traced all the way back to ancient Greece. There’s all kinds of debates happening around us today, but here at RMC we wanted to discuss a few issues that were a bit closer to home. So to the inter-block debate we went, where six strong teams of four rolled into the chapel, three speakers and one writer ready to destroy each other using valid points. Even though the questions were thoroughly argued and winners announced, we still wanted to see what the rest of RMC thought. Turned out people’s opinions lined up with the winning side of the debates.

Humans ‘You can take the kid out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the kid’. I once believe this to be true. Growing up the in outback country, living on a peaceful farm and no schedule to stress over, well this is what city folk think when I say I’m from Tamworth. However they know little of the lonely nights where I had to go out and catch food for the town in order to last. They know little of the struggle of sewing my clothes together with the cotton I collected from my neighbours farm. There had to be an easier way of life so I decided to leave and head for the big smoke. Shockingly when I arrived at RMC, it turned out half of Tamworth also had also migrated to this place. This was strange since all stereotypes told me that I should know everyone from my small country town. This was just the beginning of shocks coming towards this hardworking farm boy. Here are the keys aspects of transformation from country kid to a city slicker. I went from being responsible for collecting food for the town to complaining how much rice there is on my plate. I went from being proud of my ragged shoes to making sure I have the whitest shoes in college. I went from being able to afford a house to having smashed avo every morning. I went from doing mad skids in my commie to wondering whether my small decaf, double shot caramel soy latte has enough caffeine in it. And finally, the one which made me realised I have changed was that I went from plucking carrots to dressing up like them. This was when I realised. I had changed Now when I return home to my people just stare. Their straw drops from their mouths, you can hear it hit the floor. For one I used to be, I am no more.

Jack Harvey “The country kid before he knew about the horrors of the city”

of RMC The day people stop asking me “wHy aRe u SOOOOO TALLL??” will be the day hell itself freezes over. But in vain I’ll take this opportunity to answer this painfully common question anyway: JI-Don’t-KnowJ After years of soul searching this question still haunts my very dreams; annoying voices calling from far below me, asking me the same damn thing over and over and over and over again. I’ve travelled far and wide for answers, but… nothing. It’s not a disorder, I tower over both parents, I haven’t taken steroids yet, and I’ve never been put to the rack… Eventually I simply had to accept this for what it is. And y’know what- I’ve always been a tallboi and always will be… hopefully… But until then… No… FOREVERMORE- these exxxtra inches should be accepted and unquestioned- celebrated for the blessings that they are. Stand strong my fellow tallfolk and be proud! :’) #slendermandidnothingwrong
