Welcome to The Voice! The Voice is RMC’s student run publication that covers the events that make up the RMC calendar. It is also a place to share funny, and all-around entertaining content. The Voice is published intermittently throughout the academic year, with issues released every 2-3 weeks (hopefully). This is a student-run publication, so we want to hear from you! There will be some sections, such as the ever-popular wiretap, where we ask for audience submissions. This is your chance to shine and to leave your mark on The Voice. We love hearing from you. Other than that, our messenger is always open if you have ideas, we will do our best to include them in the next issue. Remember, this is your voice too! @TheVoiceofRMC is our Facebook page and will be our main point of contact. If you have any submissions, questions, or suggestions this is where to send them. It will also be where we post announcements, such as when new issues will be available. This issue will be covering the fabulous O-Week put on by the RMCSA and RA team, as we welcome all the new freshers to their new home here at RMC. As such, this issue will mostly contain the photos that we have been taking during the O-Week activities. We will still be adding in some Voice staples, such as the Wiretap, but stay tuned for more articles and other content in future issues.

Meet The Cast! Susanna and I (Alice) will be your editors for this year of The Voice. We are both second year Media and Communications students here at Macquarie University with majors in Screen Practice and Production. I do a minor in Performing Arts and Entertainment and am the writer of most of the articles here. While we do have plans for other articles by guest authors, most articles here will be written by me. Returners will probably remember me as The One With the Bows, and while the bows may be gone I can promise that I will continue to channel Jojo Siwa throughout the year. My partner in crime is Susanna, an Ancient History minor who is our photographer and graphic designer. You’ve probably already seen her taking photos during O-Week, and you will continue to see her at events throughout the year. Susanna’s proficient in Photoshop, Google Calendar, and The Sims 4, so all our issues should look good and be on time, though I am weary of getting trapped in a pool without a ladder.

Dance Off The annual RMC vs. DLC dance off was one of the most exciting events of O-Week this year. After the cancellation of last year’s dance off, we were all happy to see all the freshers dance their hearts out to ‘Time of Lives’. After a shock declaration of a tie, Menzies pulled out an epic win after a 1-on-1 dance off that saw Daniel destroy the competition with an incredible performance to ‘Toxic’.

Let’s Review Now that you’ve seen the photos, let's do a quick review any of the O Week events that we haven’t been over yet! After checking in on Welcome Sunday, the freshers came together for the Summer Sessions, a chance to have a chill first evening at RMC and meet all the new people that checked in alongside them. Tuesday night included the Chaplaincy BBQ, which give a chance to meet our Chaplain Lily and the chaplaincy RAs. As well as a chance to learn of the chaplaincy events at college. Later, Anna and Zara put on a stunning performance at the Night Under the Stars as everyone wound down after a wild day in the city. The UBar mixer was a chance to meet people from the rest of the university, while also providing a chance to sample the pizza. We met up with DLC, as Wednesday Ranch nights made a comeback. Coffee and pub crawl once again sent residents out into the city to taste the best drinks (alcoholic or otherwise) that Sydney has to offer. Finally, everyone assembled one last time for a movie night in the common room, a welcome wind down after a wild week. And that’s it! O Week activities are complete. We want to give a big thank you to everyone who made this all possible. The exec that planned and led the activities, the RAs make us feel at home, the staff who keep the college running, and any returners who pitched in too. COVID or no COVID 2022 at RMC is looking bright!

Noticeboard This is the section of The Voice dedicated to messages from DOs, RAs, Exec, or staff as well as upcoming and recurring events. From the Duty Officers – O-Week saw us all go through RMCs first fire drill of the year. On the back of that, there are a few points that we would like to go over about evacuation etiquette. Most importantly, in the event of an evacuation, drill or otherwise, we ask that you please remain in the emergency assembly area until given the all clear, and the evacuation is over. Evacuations are not the time for an impromptu Mac Centre run. No one wants a Duty Officer or a firefighter to go running into a potentially burning building to find you when you’ve just gone on a maccas run. From the Dean of Students – Smoking is bad for your health. A number of cigarette butts have been found on the ground around campus, so this is a reminder that smoking is not allowed at RMC and you will receive a fine if you are caught. If that’s not enough motivation, think of Baby Scarlett!
