CROSSROADS Editor’s Note Tuesday nights at RMC
Hey Menzies, Welcome back! It has been a while since uni actually went back, but The Voice has officially returned for term 2. The holidays saw both Easter and ANZAC day events happen here at RMC and across Australia. Services were held at Trinity Chapel over the long weekend to celebrate Easter. An ANZAC ceremony was held on the 25th to commemorate Australian and New Zealand troops. To wrap up the holidays over the break, Monday 2nd saw a special dinner in honour of Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of the month-long dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. The beginning of Term 2 also saw Arts week 2022, an annual event here at RMC. Residents had the chance to show their skills in the arts through a series of performances and competitions put on by the RAs. This term also saw the farewell of our Dean of Academics Katrina Clifford. Katrina has been an integral and valued member of the RMC community for several years. She has proved important in the lives of many students by supporting and encouraging them in their academic endeavors. Not only will we miss her baking, and her constant supply of cookies, but her reassuring presence, and love for college life. This issue of The Voice is a little shorter than usual. This is both because not much has happened over the holidays, and because Susanna and I are working on The Encore. The Encore is a wrap up of Arts Week and will be coming out during exams. Thank you to everyone who’s been working with us to make The Encore as amazing as it can be, and we hope you all enjoy it. I hope you all had a fantastic holiday and that term 2 treats you well.

CROSSROADS ANZAC nights Day 2022 Tuesday at RMC Anzac Day falls on the 25th of April each year. The 25th of April was officially named Anzac Day in 1916. 'ANZAC' stands for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. On the 25th of April 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers formed part of the allied expedition that set out to capture the Gallipoli peninsula. These became known as Anzacs and the pride they took in that name continues to this day. The meaning of Anzac Day today includes the remembrance of all Australians killed in military operations. Anzac Day remembrance takes two forms. Commemorative services are held at dawn – the time of the original landing in Gallipoli – across the nation. Later in the day, ex-servicemen and women meet to take part in marches through the major cities and in many smaller centres. Commemorative ceremonies are more formal and are held at war memorials around the country.
