Second semester start Welcome back everyone! We hope you all enjoyed TwO-Week and had a great mid-year holiday! For those that are new to college, The Voice is a sort of newsletter/magazine/recap of the events that occur at college and is released every few weeks (usually in between our assignments!). We’ve really enejoyed being back at college and going to all the events and hope you all have been too! Getting back into the first few weeks of uni don’t forget to not fall behind on your study, whether this be watching lectures or doing readings - it’s always better to stay on top early in the semester!

TwO-Week
As always, second semester began with TwO-Week
activities including the bi-
annual pub crawl and coffee crawl.
The coffee crawl was full of waffles, warm drinks and great company. The pub
crawl, which is not pictured because no-one wants to
see that, was also lots of fun with some gradual drinking which finished at Bungalo 8 where the real dancing began!
Pub Crawl and Coffee Crawl
The Amazing Race On Friday the Amazing Race took
place which led the groups on a route
around the city where they experienced a number of different challenges in an attempt to be the first team to finish! It was a beautiful day and lots of fun
for all involved, with lots of time spent around the harbour.
The Fresher Fiesta kicked off the week with a series of games giving the new and returning residents a chance to get to know one another.

Block Wars After the first week of classes, there was some
friendly inter-block competition at Block Wars.
Although C-Block came out on top again, all the
teams brought some really great participation and team spirit was high.
The events ranged from non-alcoholic beer pong, dodgeball and disarming bombs to the block cheers/chants.
AFL
On Sunday, DLC and RMC met at the university oval to learn and play some casual AFL to begin the semester with a friendly match. Although we began with very few players who knew how to play, the RMC team did really well and quickly picked up on the skills and rules of the game. In a mixed team the residents of RMC worked together really well to score multiple goals and also bring home a trophy! There will be multiple other college sporting events during the semester so make sure to come out and have a go or come along and support the players!

A-Block Sunday Chill session
As usual A-Block ended their first week of classes with their regular chill session where the residents were treated with cake and ice-cream! With the majority of the conversation revolving around true crime TV shows, the residents relaxed and avoided the readings and lectures they still hadn’t completed...
D Block BBQ Although this event happened last semester we didn’t have a chance to get it into our last issue so we couldn’t resist putting it in this issue just to give any new students an idea of some of the great events the Block RAs do during the semester! This was one of the D block events run by the D Block RAs Helen and Long. Make sure to go along to them because they’re always a great way to meet the people in your block, get some free food and have a whole heap of fun!
Self-Care
A column by Meredith - our in-college counsellor Have you ever heard of self-care? Do you know what it is and why it might be important for you? Perhaps you think it’s optional or self-indulgent. Think again.
Self-care is knowing what your physical, mental, spiritual, emotional and financial needs are and taking steps to meet them. It might start with a bit of reflection, to think about what those needs might look like at this stage of your life. For example:
Mental: managing your stress including knowing how you best relax, taking breaks from study, College and friends; digital down time; developing good time management, goal setting and action planning skills; getting support from a counsellor or trusted friend when you feel stuck; getting help for academic concerns; finding out what you’re interested in like having a hobby; getting in touch with your creative side.
Spiritual: exploring your beliefs and faith; prayer; belonging to a church community; helping others.
Physical: working out how much sleep you need and getting it; regular exercise; having a balanced diet; cutting down on or eliminating unhealthy habits; seeing a GP to address health concerns.
Emotional: learning how to be kinder, less judgmental to yourself and to develop positive self talk; fostering healthy relationships including recognising boundaries; transitioning from home to independence; learning how to manage conflict; being able to identify what you are feeling, and recognising how your thoughts and feelings might be affecting your behaviours; finding ways to clarify and connect with who and what is important. Financial: budgeting, setting financial goals to move towards financial independence.
It is really important to actively care for yourself. Start making your own unique list today!

Humans of RMC
What’s an interesting fact about you? I never seem to have a fact for this in tutorials, so the struggle is real right now. Every night I have to
watch Gilmore Girls to go to sleep. So I’ve probably rewatched it
38484297 times but I cannot go to sleep without watching some part
Human #15 Nicole Cairney
of an episode.
What is your favourite memory of RMC so far?
What do you study? And what is your favourite part of your degree? Bachelor of Arts – Media with
a Bachelor of Law. What I like
best about my degree is that I
learn something new every week.
Whether it’s what’s going on in the world around me or a case from years ago that had interesting
outcomes. I find I’m continuing learning and finding out new things.
What has been your favourite college event so far and why? Ball for sure! Open bar, chance to dress up, I’m there!
One of my favourite memories
was definitely the night that we
decided to block Basel’s room with boxes full of stress balls. Next
thing we knew the whole corridor turned into a ball pit of stress
balls. It was super lame and super
random, but it ended up being one of the best nights.
What is your favourite part of being a
What did you do over the break?
Residential Advisor? Definitely the ability to make a difference
for people within their college experience. It’s such a great opportunity to not only
ensure that residents are surviving away from home, but also bringing
small things for them to look forward to each week. Whether that be listening to
their day or having free food on a Sunday. It’s really rewarding being able to help people in the smallest ways.
Where are you from? Does it differ greatly from Sydney? I’m from Paterson, New South Wales. Very much so. It’s a small country town where our closest shop is 20 minutes away!
Do you think RMC should have another pet? If so, what should it be? Yes RMC should have another pet - I’d love another dog of course. You can never have too many dogs running around.
I travelled to Greece and did a Contiki! It was amazing!
Humans of RMC
more fun than they sound. What has been your favourite college event so far and why? Last year, a group of us all went to Cremorne to see ‘The Room’
in a packed cinema. While I was skeptical of this event at first,
sitting with some of my fellow
RMC people, throwing spoons,

and yelling at this awful movie
in a cinema full of hundreds of people doing the same thing
was like nothing else I’d ever
experienced. I’ve been 6 times
now and I’m still keen for more.
There’s a lot to choose from! But honestly my favourite memories are probably just the times
hanging out with my friends in the middle A common room.
There’s nothing quite like the
little bits of friendly verbal abuse we throw at each other while playing Super Smash Bros.
What do you study? And what is your favourite part of your degree? I study a Bachelor of Information
What’s an interesting fact about
Technology with a major in
you?
is definitely the cybersecurity and
I’ve studied music since the age
Cybersecurity. My favourite part
networking subjects. They’re a lot
of 5, I have perfect pitch, play
trombone, and I sing a bit for fun.
Do you think RMC should have another pet? If so, what should it be?
Where are you from? Does it differ greatly from Sydney? I’m from the mighty town of Orange. It’s
pretty different to Sydney in a lot of ways, especially with how cold it gets (down to
-7 over the break). It’s quieter and the air smells nicer, but there’s also less to do.
And it’s a horrible name for a town when
RMC always needs more pets! Honestly it’d be mad if we had some birds of prey and
could do some falconry, but because that’s apparently “unsafe” and “insane”, I’d be
keen for another dog! Cats are cool, but
Sable is already our supreme overlord, one is enough.
your hair is the colour that mine is. The jokes never stop.
Don’t forget! If you want to be a Human of RMC all you
have to do is contact one of
the editors and we’ll happily send you the questions
and feature you in our next issue!
What did you do over the break? I went to a couple of weddings, I cooked a lot of food, I entertained kids at a holiday camp for a week, and probably clocked
up about 30 hours of time over the break where I was looking at memes.
