assignments, assignments, assignments Hey guys! We hope you are all fresh and ready for the next

round of assignments! Once again college is jam packed with

some wonderful events so make sure you pop down to some, it is a great way to catch up with everyone.

Also, don’t forget to keep on looking after yourselves in this

crazy period, this semester will be done before you know it so make sure to make the most of it. Good luck and get pumped for a busy second term!

ZOe & Jen

LGBTea

Celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community at college, a huge group of college residents gathered to learn and ask

respectful questions about being part of the LGBTQIA+

comminuty at college. Snacking on cookies and drinking hot chocolate everyone discussed and chatted about their individuality.

A special thanks to all those beautiful people who

shared their experiences being part of the LGBTQIA+

community. And a very special thanks to everyone who came along to learn and find out more!

LGBTQIA+

Although this flag originally

represented the gay proportion

Pansexual

of the community, it is now used as a representation of the entire LGBTQIA+ community and is a

sign of pride, love and respect.

Asexual Transgender

What do the flags mean?

Bisexual

Wanting to learn more about what each flag stands for? Well here is

just a select few of the flags of the LGBTQIA+ community!

A Recap of the LGBTea and an Account from Lydia

Lesbian

Please do not underestimate how important LGBTea is to have as an event for RMC.

About one in ten of people are same sex

attracted, not to mention those who may

question their gender identity, and for those of us who are already out, we feel as though it’s

our responsibility to create a strong LGBTQIA+ community at college.

Genderfluid

My college is my family, and I want my family to feel safe. Monday’s event wasn’t a comfortable

thing for me, nor for any of us, but we did it just for that one person in the group who thought

that maybe they could be like us and for those

people that may not be out of the closet yet. As we said, being queer is an incredibly isolating experience, so we want to make sure that

Genderqueer

people know who we are, and who they can go to for advice.

- Lydia (A block resident and LGBTQIA+ community member)

A collection of postgrads (and a few stow away undergrads) ventured down to S

Conference Room on Wednesday night for the Postgrad Supper.

The evening featured an array of yummy delights and good conversation varying from uni life to different films and everything in between.

It’s the start of the Pool Tournament! Games

will be held weekly so make sure to come

down and check it out!

See the winners of each round on the poster on the wall near the table! Good luck everyone!

RMC Pool Tournament ....so far!

E Block Fire and Pizza Night

The fire pit and pizza night was exactly what we

needed on a cold autumn night. The atmosphere of the night was great, we were able to relax

around the fire and catch up with each other. It also allowed us to enjoy ourselves despite the stress of uni. The pizza was a welcome change

from chicken and rice! This was for sure the best block event yet.

Cannot wait to see what is store for the future. - Grace (E Block resident)

On Sunday the 6th of May, residents crowded around a healthy patter of tim tams, and other chocolate covered treats to play Jackbox tv in Middle A.

First competition consisted of a range of abstract

drawings making us all question our creative abilities in Drawful.

The battle continued in Quiplash as each player

had to come up with an original answer that other

residents had to vote on. It provided endless laughter and very interesting responses to the prompts. Shout out to Jen for her very ‘witty’ answers. Until next Sunday A block! - Nicole (A Block RA)

stress management workshop Last Tuesday night a group of tired, stressed out students attended Meredith’s Stress Night. We discussed the effects of stress (the list is pretty terrifying) and different strategies like mindfulness and setting SMART goals to better manage our workload and to keep it from taking over our lives.

RMC Counsellor

Because it is a stressful time for everyone, here are some top tips to keep it at bay: - Make sure you get good sleep, everyone needs a different amount so make sure you know how much you need - Set attainable goals, using a guide like SMART goals can help you achieve this - Remember to still have fun, work doesn’t have to be everything! If you feel at any time like it is all too much, don’t hesitate to make an appointment with our counsellor, Meredith. She is available on Tuesdays and you can set up an appointment by emailing her at: Meredith.wagstaff@rmc.nsw.edu.au. There is also Campus Wellbeing ph. 9850 7497 and the 1800 CARE MQ (1800 2273 67) hotline available too.

Did you know at RMC, we have our very own on-site counsellor, Meredith Wagstaff. Sessions are held on Tuesdays from 10am till 6pm and are free for RMC residents. FOR APPOINTMENTS, SPEAK TO YOUR RA OR KATRINA, DROP BY THE OFFICE OR EMAIL: MEREDITH.WAGSTAFF@RMC.NSW.EDU.AU

Caitlin! Blood donations are continuing

throughout the semester and donating blood

is a really great cause plus it will also help us beat DLC at another event!

Julian’s Blood Donation: Last week I had the opportunity to donate blood to the Red Cross as

part of the blood drive that RMC is

competing in against DLC. Donating

blood is a very simple and rewarding thing to do and it’s so easy to

donate. Simply sign up and make an

appointment online and you’re good to go. They take one pint (560ml) of blood, which takes 5 to 10 minutes and you get free snack afterwards

(free food is a good enough reason to do it, right?)

Once your donation has been used

you receive a text message from the

Red Cross. Yesterday I received a text

saying that my blood had helped save lives at Prince of Wales Hospital.

- Julian (E-Block RA and Blood Donor)

Humans of RMC

What do you study? And what is your favourite part of your degree? I am a double major(degree)

back home at Rutgers University in Mathematics and Statistics. I love numbers in general, and I would say I am pretty good at

dealing with them. My friends can tell you, that I’m always doing

something with numbers in my

head for no reason. I also feel like

those two degrees can help me be very versatile when looking for a

career. A strong background with numbers would be resourceful in

as well, and really learn the culture of the island. Kiwis and sheep, that’s all.

What do you study? And what is your favourite part of your degree? I study Bachelor of Applied Finance,

currently in my third year! Finance is

certainly the lifeblood for all industry

sectors as without finance nothing would

function. I really enjoy my degree and am fascinated by the many career choices it

offers. I enjoy learning about investments, portfolio management and overall

economics that influences the broader

economy.

What is your favourite memory of RMC so far? My favourite memory by far is the first day of college, when ‘’awkward lunch’’ was

held for freshers and o-week. I remember struggling with my four suitcases up the carpark of RMC. It was when I smiled at

Most Indian traditions already run in

Sydney are where I did all of my education, school to now final year of university. Newcastle, where I live currently with

my parents, differs from Sydney as it’s more rural and nature based with less

traffic less population and many beaches,
