NEWS

Monopoly GO Week If you are feeling either a little hungover; in physical pain; or something like Kimmy K when she lost her diamond earring in the ocean… then CONGRATS! You have had a successful O Week! O-week is the best time to be able to party out all the new-kid jitters, make friends with all your new fellow collegians, and get taunted by the returners. It was great to see the number of returners joining in the O-week activities, even if it was sitting in ….. drinking the freshers under the table. Lets begin at GO, the first time you sat in the RMC dining hall, it was #awkward. Looking around at all the new faces, wondering if you’re gonna be besties with the person next to you, or if you’re gonna hook up with the hottie on the other side of the room. It was a new beginning and you can finally take control of your life, well most of your life. Dance training was obvs the highlight of the week, not only for the three exceptional dancers, it gave you a reason to do pelvic thrusts in the church... #sorryboutit. Speaking of Sorry, we also found out that the fresher dance would be Sorry by JB. I know, I know, how can you dance to Sorry? With lot of 1,2,3,4,56. Once our booties had been thoroughly shaken, it was time to test out RMC’s local waterhole, the Ranch, formerly known as El Rancho. I can’t remember if the music was pumping, or if it was just my head after one too maybe tequila shots, but I’m sure everyone had a great night. #forestparty.

As Monday morning came around so did the new members meeting with Bruce and other special guests. With Bruce’s endless tale about Jack and Jill finished, it was time to relax before, yes, another meeting. The Vice Chancellor’s meeting was entertaining, with our very own Sam Cooper f eaturing as the MC. So after all the formal stuff was out of the way, we headed to the Gym for the intercollege Pool Party, even though no DLC people were there, some of the village residents graced us with their presences. After dinner, it was Scav hunt time. The groups were formed and the need for winning had increased. From doing the Fresher dance in Woolies and Coles, to getting up close and personal with the statues around the Uni, it was only a taste of what the real Scav Hunt had, and what to look forward to the next day.

Monopoly GO Week Scav Hunt day, is probably the most tiring day of your life. Leaving Macquarie University station at 7:15am, the games had begun in earnest. The Fresher dance, was yet again, performed to the public in several different places; fountains, trains and yes, even on Sunrise. More flesh was shown in one day than an entire season of Embarrassing Bodies. And over 24 000 steps were taken. With the leaders having their eyes on the prize, copious amounts of alcohol was consumed and some pretty gross food; a vegetarian cheese burger with a 50 cent cone and tabasco sauce, a teaspoon of chilli powder and a raw fish, were also devoured. And finally to end an eventful day, the Annual RMC Naked walk through Chinatown took place. A big congrats to the scav hunt winners - ‘Team Majestic’, lead by Maddie Martin, Matt Croese and 2nd time winner Jack Bailey. After a quick wardrobe change, and another long train ride, we ended up in the city once again. Some split off and went to a few cafe’s around Martin place. Others went crawling around the city going to different pubs and nightclubs… and yes, the buses did turn up this year.

Monopoly GO Week There’s nothing better than waking up to the fire alarm after a big day and an even bigger night out. There would have been plenty of sore heads that morning. For 30 minutes we sat out in the carpark, while the “the alram is being investigated”. But we did have a Pancake breakfast straight afterwards, so all was forgiven. With another round of dance training under our belt, we all felt slightly more confident for the dance off. Tour De Mac, or what we prefer to call it, O-week bootcamp with eggs, oil and goon, had little attendance, but was still ‘enjoyable’ for all. Answer a question wrong and you’ll get punished, but answer a question right, you’ll still get punished. After completing all the stations, it was time to do the dance once again, but at least we were cooled off, with water bombs and buckets of water showered upon us. Later on, we all joined in for a session of Speed dating. Unfortunately there were no couples formed that night, but we got to know everyone’s name before we headed to the Back to School party at Ranch. Or chilled on the couch and #NetflixandChilled.

Monopoly GO Week Today was the day that we had been waiting for all week - the ABC party at Ubar featuring the epic dance off against DLC. With a last minute dance training, we were sent to buy our costumes - or lack thereof and prepare ourselves for the night ahead. But first we had to attend the All College Meeting with a special guest speakers from the mental health organisation, Batyr. Slipping into the pillow cases, making skirts out of chux wipes and tieing the last knot on the toga, we were ready to go win the dance battle. With some very revealing outfits and over sexualised dance moves, DLC performed first. I’m sure the underagers at Strike bowling were doing the fresher dance while doing Karaoke, because once we started dancing, nothing could stop us. After what felt like a super quick dance, I couldn’t even blink when the judge declared that RMC had won. Feeling on top of the world, and wishing Lockie extend the bar tab, the DLC numbers quickly declined until RMC ruled the dance floor. Featuring the macubur snapchat story, we had begun our winning streak. Now we have ‘Danni’ the dance trophy in the trophy cupboard where she belongs.

Monopoly GO Week For the first time, we finally had a sleep in because we had to be well rested and ready to party on the Harbour Cruise. This year the theme was #Squadgoals, and there were #Squads left, right and centre. There was the Mexican #Squad, ABBA, Minions, The Musketeers and their villains, the Arthur #Squad and even a #Squad of Hawaiians. Lets just say, the night got pretty rowdy on the boat. After doing the fresher dance about 32 times and seeing Muzz dancing with a vomit bag on her arm, it’s safe to say harbour cruise was a night to remember.

Monopoly GO Week With the big turnout to the Slip ‘n’ Slide, only one person showed up!! It was decided to have a quiet day, to do some rest and relaxation. The exec hosted a games night for everyone, and everyone had an early night.

Sunday was no different than Saturday. Heaps of rest all ready for the Ultimate Fresher off between Ryan and Jonty. After two insane challenges; eating as many weetbix you can in 2 minutes and doing the plank for the longest amount of time. Ryan was crowned the ultimate Fresher. There was also numerous awards given out to freshers who the Exec believe got out of their comfort zone and made the effort to get involved in all the activities. The award winners were as follows; Ultimate Fresher: Ryan Lawler Honourable Freshers: Jonty Boshier and Zoe Speer Scav Hunt Winners: ‘Team Majestic’; Jack Bailey, Maddie Martin, Matt Croese, Zoe Speer, Alex Wall, Amy Thompson, Shannon Martin, Zoe Walters, Keely McDermott, Minhlong. Best Harbour Cruise costume: The Arthur Squad Best ABC Costume: Grace Armstrong and Zoe Selby Best Underager: Maddie Mclean Best Fresher Cut: Julian Aenishaenslin Best Dancers: Alex Wall and Kyah Murphy Best TOFTB: Sarah Harrison Best O-week Injury: Jordan Batten Best Fresher Couple: Raman Wadhwa and Sarah Toohey Best Drunk: Imogen Cox and Dean Bevitt

Monopoly GO Week

Commencement Dinner

Thanks to our Cultural rep Ryan and the Exec for a lovely night last thursday at Commencement Dinner. A special mention to Jess and Liz, for all your hard work and the kicthen staff for amazing food.. Our first formal dinner for the year featured some on fleeeek outfits displayed by the RMC guys and gals, seriously moreish canapes, and the traditional sore necked, squinty eyed all-college photo. The night marked another first with our wonderful new dean Katrina, giving her first formal dinner address to the whole of the college; a very thought provoking address on the relevance of Jane Austen’s ideologies in our modern day fight for equal rights of women all over the world. Also there was Paul Yeates, previous dean of RMC whose presence was appreciated and toasted to by all. We were privileged to hear another traditional rendition of Leon Dhemba’s own poetry, presented by the creator himself.

Commencement Dinner

After we’d been spoilt by the kitchen staff with either a delicious duck breast, scotch fillet or risotto, we heard some of Beth Hadfield’s skills on the piano. She absolutely killed it, playing the tricky Tarantella. After some scrumptious dessert, the Master’s address and presentation of awards to all our talented and hardworking collegians was the amazing Patrick, Jim, Angus and Maddie who gave us a beautiful cover of the classic, Hallelujah. The event was followed by the first uni-wide ubar party for the year, Summer Haze. Those who attended, got to witness first hand the ridiculously long drinks lines, toilet lines, and lack of seating that we all know and love our Ubar for. All in all, the night was certainly a haze by the end of it. Shout out to Britney Spears and Mini Matt for a great job at being MCs for the night. (Zoe Speer and Jordan Batten)

Volleyball Tournament With the Menzies spirit still high from the ABC party, the annual volleyball competition between RMC, DLC and the Village fast approached. Outnumbered in players and support, Menzies proved that it’s too late to say sorry because we won... Girls were up first, feeling slightly confident, the game started. Lets just say, it wasn’t our best, loosing 18-25 to DLC. Switching sides with the sun on our back, a sneaky win of 25-20 was just what we needed to keep our spirits high. After a few adjustments on court, along with the girls’ sassy attitudes, we defeated DLC 15-8. Giving us the first sporting tournament win. After a quick break, the boys joined together in a prayer circle, probably intimidating the DLC challengers. Once again RMC defeated DLC 25-20. And once the DLC boyzz get fired up, there’s always that one that takes things too far, with one of them kicking the ball away... Good one mate. RMC won again, 25-21. Another win for Menzies. It was like Déjà vu’, with DLC running off with their tails between their legs, the “GO, GO RMC” chant was the only thing they could hear.
