The Voice EDITION ELEVEN
THE HOME STRETCH IS HERE! Congratulations you have finished all your classes for the university year! Now you’re on the home-stretch with a couple weeks of exams - you can do it!
This year has gone so quickly, we can’t believe how much has happened, so much of it feels like it was only yesterday. From O-Week and new freshers to Ball and Halloween there have been many friendships and memories made in the 2015 RMC community. This is our last issue and our farewell as your editors as well move on to make way for new ideas - “Excuse me, new meat coming through”.
We are sad to say goodbye to Paul Yeates who has influenced and helped many members of our community for many years. We also see a few of our close friends move on to bigger things. As next year brings new and exciting things, we’d like to remind you how great this year has been and wish everyone all the best for next year. Smash those exams then keep those spirits high for the summer. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from your number 1 failed marriage joker and that girl whos head still hurts.

THEVOICE 1
Inter-College Rugby Sunday the 25th of October saw the conclusion of inter college sport for 2015. Menzies came an honourable second to DLC, who won for the umpteenth time. RMC, however, was the clear winner in dedication and support. Special mention does have to go to the girls who played in the game against the MUV women, who played an excellent match. Jasmin Harvey, Ellie Rutter, Hannah Stephens, Maddie Martin and Taylor Anderson all scored goals. Shout out to Laura Coleman for setting them all up. For the boys, Oscar Woods and Alec Palmer scored the tries. Best of luck to RMC next year.
RMCSA Water Slide Menzies student’s truly slid into the exam period this year, as the ‘Wild Rapids Water Slide’ took over the Astroturf outside the S Block Conference room. Organised by the Student Association, the slide was the last official event of this years Student Executive - and it certainly was a great event to end the year on. Ignoring every single rule the company had put on the slide, including going headfirst, backwards and more than one person at a time, the only people not having fun were the people inside the conference room (who looked at the slide like a dog looks at a bone). Thankfully, the guys running the slide were nice and didn’t mind when we got the dish washing liquid to make the slide quicker.

Girls and Boys Night In The annual Girls and Boys Nights In were held on the 24th of October this year. Both events aim to raise money for charities, by having people donate the money they would have spent going out to a charity and enjoying a night in with friends. The girls donated their money to Breast Cancer Research, whilst the boys donated to Men’s Shed.

HERE’S TO PAUL ‘You can never overdo the pelvic thrust’
To Paul and the Yeates Family, thank you for sharing your life with us at RMC. We’ve enjoyed and treasured having you around. It’s been many wise words shared with RTs and the Exec who you have influenced over the years to constantly strive for the best. From us here at The Voice, we’re so thankful to have your editing skills and your laughter around when you help us make each issue happen. We’re also greatful for letting a few cheeky quotes slide from time-to-time. We wish you all the best in Melbourne and will miss your outgoing and down-to-earth personality! Thanks for everything you have done for the exec this year, you are always there to keep us level-headed. Wish you luck with your future - Kate Roughsedge I think for me the best memories of Paul are of when I was a student at RMC. He would come and just sit down with residents to have a chat and a good laugh. Paul’s quirky humour will probably be the stand out thing for me. - Jess Horsfall THEVOICE 10

Paul Yeates has been at RMC since the beginning of 2007. He has served as our Dean since Oct 2008. There have ben many memories shared with such a caring and out-going personality who has the cutest kids that catch the attention of many of us at dinner.

Farewell from the 2015 Student Executive
To Dearest RMC, We have had an absolute blast putting on events for you throughout the year. From the craziness of O’Week, to cruises, Ubar parties, Ball, sporting events, movie nights, water slides, formal dinners and everything in between, we hope you guys have had the best time possible.
To our various committees, who volunteered their time and energy to help us put on these events, we say a big thank you. To everyone who wasn’t on a committee but pitched in to help setup/clear up an event, we also offer up a huge thanks. Many hands make light work. To anyone considering running for a position on the Executive at some point in the future - do it! Not only is it great to give back to the college community, but it is also great for your resume. To next years Executive, we wish you the best of luck. It takes a lot of hard work, determination, and long, long meetings. You were elected by the College, so represent them well. Oh, and be aware that you will cry during O’Week. Lots of Love, Leon, Kate, Chris, Lara, Jack, Shrav, Molly, Hannah and Mac

Ivana and Jack’s Post Exam City Outing Some of us are lucky enough to finish our exams really early during the exam period. It can, however, mean that we are stuck at college whilst everyone else is still busy studying. Thus, we give you the itinerary for our ‘Post Exam City Outing’.
Starting on an early train, you disembark at Circular Quay. Walking around the harbour, you are presented with the chance to take some great tourist photos with some of Sydney’s most famous landmarks - the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House.
After #gramming the amazing photos you will take, make your way to Pancakes on the Rocks for some breakfast. We definitely recommend just getting the pancakes and not a smoothie - it Now that you are well fed, it is time to move onto some is too much food. culture. Walk back towards the train station and take yourself inside the Museum of Contemporary Art. Experience weird art which people pay a fortune for and which you don’t really understand. Also, be careful of mobile phones just lying on a bench. If you throw it out, chances are the owner will return (Jack learnt the hard way).
Next its time to walk along George street and check out some shops. After this take some time to have lunch in Hyde Park. Much like eating at the Uni, look out for Ibises. There is also the added fun of avoiding the eyes of buskers so you don’t have to give them money.
Finally it is time to get in touch with your religious side. Inside St Mary’s Cathedral across from Hyde Park - the longest church in Australia (although it is not the tallest or the largest). Construction of the Church took over 100 years, starting in 1868 and the spires only being completed in 2000.
GOODBYE FROM YOUR 2015 EDITORS: When we were first interviewed for The Voice our main objective was to remind you of the great community we have at college. To us, RMC has been our home for the last few years. We have learnt a lot, met people we would not have had a chance to meet otherwise, and created some life-long memories that we know we’ll always treasure. As we say goodbye, we want to remind you of how important the sense of community is to your time at College. What you put into this experience is what you will get out of it. The people you surround yourself with today will be friends for years to come, throughout your university experience and hopefully throughout your life. Don’t be afraid to get involved in all the events college has to offer. You will create the greatest memories from the times you least expected to.
To all the leaders for next year, be you Exec, RT, DO or any other part of the college leadership team, we hope you inspire members to feel a part of RMC. You are role-models and the foundation for sustaining a welcoming and enthusiastic community. To the members of 2016, never forget how you felt when you were a new fresher coming into an exciting new part of your life full of ranch-nights and ubar theme parties - never let this energy die. To next years editors of The Voice; Imogen and Ryan. The best bit of advice we can give you is to make The Voice your own. We wish you all the best and hope you love doing The Voice as much as we have. All the best for 2016
