Why Robert Gordon University

Robert Gordon University is one of the UK’s ‘new universities’, created in 1992. However it can trace its roots to 1731, when Robert Gordon bequeathed his estate to build a residential school for boys. In 1903, The Robert Gordon’s Technical College was formed to bring together a range of adult education activities in Aberdeen. It was redesignated The Robert Gordon’s Institute of Technology in 1965 and was awarded university status in 1992. Robert Gordon University is renowned for its vocational focus and has one of the strongest graduate employment records of any UK university. Robert Gordon University has been named, for the third year running, by The Times Good University Guide as Best Modern University in the UK and was also voted Scottish University of the Year by the Sunday Times in 2011. The university has three Faculties: Aberdeen Business School, The Faculty of Design and Technology and the Faculty of Health and Social Care.

Aberdeen Business School recently had its 45th anniversary as a business school and we were very proud to celebrate our high profile with industry supporters and sponsors and to acknowledge the fact that the School was recently ranked 15th of the 118 business schools in the United Kingdom by the Guardian newspaper. We seek to continue to improve our reputation and closeness to industry through both teaching and research. The 2008 Research Assessment Exercise indicated that Aberdeen Business School had internationally recognised research in 5 subject areas – business and management, accounting and finance, law, politics and international relations and information management, where we were ranked 2nd for research in the United Kingdom. Research into entrepreneurship and leadership was also particularly commended in the exercise.
