British or Argentinian ?
The Falklands War began on Friday 2 April 1982, when Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands and South Georgia. The British government dispatched a naval task force to engage the Argentine Navy and Air Force, and retake the islands by amphibious assault. The resulting conflict lasted 74 days and ended with the Argentine surrender on 14 June 1982, which returned the islands to British control. During the conflict, 649 Argentine military personnel, 255 British military personnel and 3 Falkland Islanders died. Relationship with Argentina The current Argentine administration has made the Argentine claim to our home a key part of its foreign policy agenda in recent years. In furtherance of this, the Argentine government continually makes a number of inaccurate statements relating to our history and our people. A number of these points are clarified below. The Falkland Islands had no indigenous population prior to their settlement by our ancestors– the Islands were unoccupied. Argentina claims the Falkland Islands form part of the province of Tierra del Fuego – an area that was not claimed as a part of the Republic of Argentina until after two generations of Falkland Islanders had been born and raised in our Islands. There is no truth to Argentine claims that a civilian population was expelled by Britain in 1833. The people expelled were an illegal Argentine military garrison, who had arrived three months earlier. The civilian population in the Islands, who had sought permission from Britain to live there, were invited to stay. All but two of them, with their partners, did so. We are not an implanted population. Our community has been formed through voluntary immigration and settlement over the course of nearly two hundred years. We are a diverse society, with people from around the world having made the Islands their home. We are no more an implanted population than are the various populations of South America whose ancestors arrived as immigrants from Europe – we arrived here as part of the same process and pattern of migration. The UN Charter enshrines the right of all people to determine their own future, a principle known as self-determination. It is in exercising this right that we have chosen to retain our links with the UK. This fundamental right is being ignored by the Argentine Government, who are denying our right to exist as a people, and denying our right to live peacefully in our home.
We are not a colony of the United Kingdom; we are a British Overseas Territory by choice, which is something entirely different. We are not governed by Britain: we are entirely selfgoverning, except for defence and foreign affairs. We democratically elect our Legislative Assembly Members; they are chosen by the people of the Falkland Islands to represent them and to determine and administer our own policies and legislation. We are economically self-sufficient, except for the cost of defence – for which there would be no need were it not for the claim made by an aggressive neighbour. Through our own efforts, our economy allows us to enjoy excellent health services and education provision, with Falkland Islanders studying for their A-levels and degrees overseas, paid for by the Falkland Islands Government. It is testament to the strong bond our young people have with their home that nearly all return on completion of their studies and having gained experience in their chosen fields. The Argentine Government claims that the UK is exploiting the natural resources of the region; an absurd claim on a number of fronts. Firstly, we manage our own resources. Our farming practices are largely organic, our ecotourism industry is famous across the world, our fisheries are internationally acclaimed for their responsible management and sustainability, and our developing oil industry is managed by our Government and regulated to the highest international standards. Our environment is very much our home, and as such we value and protect it. Whilst the Argentine Government’s calls for negotiations with the UK may seem benign, and a rational way to end the dispute, it should be noted that the Argentine Constitution requires the outcome of negotiations to be nothing but full Argentine sovereignty over our home. As far as we are concerned, sovereignty is not up for discussion. On all other fronts, we want nothing more than to have a relationship of cooperation for mutual benefit with Argentina and all of our neighbours. This has proved impossible in recent years. In 1995, we entered a joint agreement with Argentina over hydrocarbons exploration: in 2007 the Argentine Government tore this up. In 1999, the Falkland Islands signed a joint agreement with Argentina to cooperate in a number of areas, including sharing of information on joint fish stocks. Only the Falkland Islands has upheld its side of this agreement; the Argentine Government has unilaterally reneged on nearly every point. More recent actions such as attempts to ban our ships from entering South American ports, Decree 256 which denies innocent passage of vessels transiting Argentine waters, the banning of charter flights in support of our tourism industry, laws threatening sanctions against companies involved in peaceful commerce in both countries, all point to a desire by Argentina to frustrate our international trade and attempt to isolate us. The Falkland Islanders are a peaceful, hard-working and resilient people. Our society is thriving and forward-looking. All we ask is to be left in peace to choose our own future, and responsibly develop our home for our children and generations to come. The United Kingdom and the Argentine Republic have the opportunity to set an example to the world by resolving the question of the Malvinas Islands by peaceful and diplomatic means. Above all, they have a duty and responsibility not to leave this dispute and its consequences unresolved for future generations.

OORSIG
So kom Frans Coetzee in die prentjie in. As Cybil haar hart volg, beteken dit sy moet haar drome opgee, of sal ware liefde juis haar drome vlerke gee? En is Frans bereid om liefde nog ’n kans te gee?

Golfer: "Do you think I can get there with a 5 iron?" Caddy: "Eventually." Golfer: "You've got to be the worst caddy in the world." Caddy: "I don't think so sir. The Meaning of Your Life
Secular Help for the Puzzled, Disappointed or Depressed by Marius Croeser
Are you puzzled about the meaning of your life? Are you disappointed by traditional answers? In this book you will discover the building blocks to meaning and find hopeful answers to your questions. Perhaps surprising to some, is that there are many people who have spent years within their organized religious tradition only to continue to find themselves struggling with Meaning. Equally, there are non-believers -- even Atheists -- who have given themselves over to an unnecessary, meaningless pessimism. If you have asked similar questions about personal Meaning, or if you are slightly disillusioned by traditional answers, or even if you are just curious, then this book is for you. Asking questions about meaning is normal. Not only is it normal, it is also important for your continued mental well-being. Rather than with organized religion, Meaning (and a meaningful life) is to be had in abundance within the secular world; within our very earthly and human realm. It is my assumption that, in reading this book, you are interested in learning about secular Meaning; the word secular is defined as "not pertaining to or connected with religion." Our meaning does not have to superficial or clich - and meaning is not like some chocolate egg you may find during an Easter egg hunt. I also have difficulty understanding meaning as being a mere production of the mind. Equally, as I will explain, the notion that our meaning is derived from God appears to be built on shaky ground. So, specifically in this book you will find relevant insights for your meaning; insights that come from bringing together information from recent philosophical and scientific inquiry. As you read this book, your own tangible understanding of meaning will grow -- and this process may well revolutionize your life. This book has 17 Chapters. They are filled with practical insights and answers for you to explore, and for use in your everyday life. You will discover insights into secular meaning, and related topics: Understanding your life's meaning and purpose;Having meaning outside of organized religion; How to be liberated from guilt; How to cultivate a healthy world view;Meaning and sexual fulfilment; How to triumph over life's apparent absurdity;Help for your anxiety and depressive thoughts;Discover what Quantum Mechanics, Epigenetics and Information Theory can teach us about our meaning. About the author: The author has used the principles contained in this book to re-engineer his own lifestyle -- he practices, on a daily basis, the principles described in this book. Marius Croeser has taught on three continents, appeared on TV (Canada & South Africa). He is an integrative thinker in the Existentialist tradition and holds numerous formal, interdisciplinary qualifications, including: BA., BTh., LTh(Hons)., Masters of Theological Studies as well as completed course work for a Masters of Commerce. In addition he has completed postgraduate studies at York University.

Andrew Colomb Tomato Bredie This is a simple dish but with great results! The longer you cook it the better the flavour!! Ideal for slow cooker too! Â (just add potatoes with all the other ingredients)
Ingredients ( serves 4 hungry Saffers ) 1kg cubed Lamb stewing meat (neck, shoulder, shank, chops) or on the bone 3 tablespoons oil 1kg tomatoes (skinned, or tinned) Tube tomato paste 2 large onions sliced 4 cloves Garlic chopped Salt Pepper 1 teaspoon Turmeric and Paprika 1 Beef stock cube Flour for coating Water Tablespoon Worcester sauce Two medium potatoes cubed Fresh coriander or parsley optional This recipe will give a rich tomato flavour-for milder taste, reduce tomato paste In a large saucepan on high heat, dust the lamb with the flour, brown the lamb in batches and remove. Reduce heat and add onions and garlic scraping all the "bits" off the bottom of the pan. Fry gently until soft. Add back the lamb and add tomatoes, paste, stock cube, spices, Worcester Sauce and enough water to just cover the meat. Set heat so that the pot gently simmers. Leave the lid on for the first hour, stirring every fifteen minutes. Remove lid after an hour. The idea with tomato bredie is to reduce the gravy so that the rich tomato lamb flavour comes through Add the potatoes and add salt and pepper to taste. With lid of and on gentle simmer, cook for a further hour or until lamb is tender and the tomatoes are no longer visible, having blended into the stew. Serve with rice or pap and sprinkle with chopped coriander or parsley.
How to Taste Wine Step by Step Tasting wine is arguably the single most important part of enjoying wine. Unfortunately, over time ‘proper tasting’ has become a trademark for holier than thou snobbery that runs rampant within wine culture. There is an intimidating expectation that there is a right way to taste wine, which usually includes unnecessary showmanship and vernacular. This guide focuses on practical techniques guaranteed to make you an awesome wine taster.
5 Steps in Tasting Wine * Look * Smell * Taste * Spit * Think * Look: Use this step to get in the mindset of tasting. Look at the shade of color and opacity. How does it compare to other wines of the same varietal? Is it darker? More intense? Harder to see through? Take a mental snapshot for later, these hints will show how bold, rich and viscous the wine is. Here are two charts that can help you develop a baseline: Red Wine Colors & White Wine Colors * Smell: Time to pay attention. Identifying smells beforehand makes tasting flavors in wine easier. Start by swirling the glass to aerate the wine and release its aromas. To swirl a glass, place it flat on a table and move your hand as though you are drawing tiny circles with the base. Now stick your nose in there and take a big sniff. What do you smell? Refer to Red & Dark Fruit Flavors in Wine to get ideas. * Taste: Who doesn’t love this step? Take a mouthwash size sip and briefly swish it around your mouth to make sure it coats your entire tongue before you swallow. Think about the flavors, textures and body of the wine. Is it sharp? Does it make your tongue feel dry? Do the flavors match the smells from earlier? Can you name a fruit, mineral or spice? Does it have an alcohol burn? Revisit smelling the wine after your first sip to help formulate any conclusions (guesses are ok too!). * Swallow/Spit: Oh my. Have you ever rationalized swallowing because you’d hate to waste wine? There are some good reasons to spit. Maybe the wine doesn’t suit your t aste or you want to save yourself for better wine. Maybe you need to drive. Or better yet, maybe you want to be sober enough to actually taste all the wines at a tasting. As long as you’re safe, we won’t judge you either way. If you’re tasting 20 wines in a day you might want to learn how to spit. * Think: Too many guides focus on the superficial nuances of wine tasting. Wine tasting is a head game. Confidence and bold assertion can often make someone look like a pro who actually knows nothing. Don’t be afraid to pipe up and offer your suggestions! There are no wrong answers.. Although, if every wine smells like burnt toast you might want to see a doctor.

In Transit through the UK This section explains how you can transit through the UK when travelling to another country. It also explains the documents that you will need to bring with you. If you pass through the UK without staying here on the way to another country, this is called 'transiting'. There are two types of transit through the UK: You will transit airside if you arrive on a flight, remain in the arrival lounge of the airport without passing through immigration control, and then depart on another flight from the same airport. You will transit landside if you arrive on a flight, pass through immigration control and then leave the UK within 48 hours (or 24 hours if you are travelling under the 'travel without visa' concession). If you want to spend longer than 48 hours in the UK before continuing your journey, you must come to the UK as a visitor. Whether you are transiting airside or landside, you may need to obtain a UK visa before you begin your journey. Do you need a visa to transit airside?
You transit the UK airside if you arrive here on a flight, remain in the arrival lounge of the airport without passing through UK immigration control, and then depart on another flight from the same airport. The UK government operates a DATV system for some countries. You can transit the UK airside without a visa if: * You are a national of a country that is not in the list below; or * You are recognised as stateless under the 1954 UN Convention relating to the Status of Stateless Persons; * You hold a valid travel document issued by the UK government * You are a DATV national or recognised as stateless under the 1951 UN Refugee Convention and qualify for the DATV exemption under the 'transit without visa' concession * If you do not meet any of the above requirements, you must get a direct airside transit visa before you can transit the UK airside.
Do you need a visa to transit landside?
You transit landside if you arrive on a flight, pass through immigration control and then leave the UK within 48 hours (or 24 hours if you are travelling under the 'travel without visa' concession see below). Nationals of some countries are known as 'visa nationals', because they will normally require a visa to come to the UK. You can transit the UK landside without a visa if: * you are not a visa national; or * you hold a valid travel document issued by the UK government; or * you are a visa national or recognised as 'stateless' and meet the 'transit without visa concession. If you do not meet any of these requirements (because you are a visa national or stateless, and you do not qualify for the transit without visa concession), you will need to apply for: * a visitor in transit visa, if you will be staying in the UK for less than 48 hours; or * another type of visitor visa, if you will be staying in the UK for longer than 48 hours or if you will be travelling on to the Republic of Ireland, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man.

The Kendall only has a couple of 2″ speakers and 5W amps, but its solid walnut case and retro design are a nice alternative to the sporty or modern look of other Bluetooth speakers.

What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique is very difficult to define because any definition confines it and is basically inadequate, it is a multifaceted field. I will start by saying who benefits mostly from having Alexander lessons. 1. It is widely used in the music, drama and sports world where efficiency of movement is paramount. They learn how to perform elegantly with less effort and strain thus avoiding injury and extending the length of their careers. 2. It helps millions of people to naturally overcome neck, back and joint pain, poor posture, breathing problems, anxiety and stress-related conditions as well as offering support in pregnancy and childbirth. 3. Many people have Alexander lessons to improve their health and quality of life We lead very stressful lives today, everything is fast and instant, the world today is not designed for people to feel content. We are bombarded with the need for more – more money, more holidays, more work, more youth, more security, more fitness; we have information and sensory overload…we are simply over fatigued! The body responds by tightening, the muscles grip around every joint and our breathing becomes rapid and shallow resulting in discomfort which leads to further anxiety, alcohol use, smoking, pill popping, insomnia, all of which creates added tension and so a downward spiral begins. The body loses its vitality manifesting in poor posture and strained movement as well as dis-ease. This becomes our norm, the muscles habitually tighten and we identify with this way of being. Many people pride themselves on their stressful lives! This habitual tensing and holding of muscle becomes our armour plating, it feels right. If we try to let go we feel uneasy and vulnerable, it feels wrong – we quickly go back to the habit of our tension! This is the difficulty in learning the technique, the wrong feels right and the right feels wrong – as FM Alexander discovered, we cannot rely on our feelings, they are faulty, we therefore have to use our brains and THINK - he called it man’s supreme inheritance. How do we liberate ourselves from this cycle? First and foremost we need to become aware of what we are doing wrong, where we are over tightening muscle and distorting ourselves. FM Alexander said “Don’t come to me unless, when I tell you you are wrong, you make up your mind to smile and be pleased”. This is against our culture, we find it very difficult to be wrong and yet it is only the wrong things that we need to change, the right things can be left well alone!
During lessons we gain this body awareness and the Alexander teacher helps us to release muscular tension by using hands-on guidance and verbal instruction. This is usually done by you lying down on a table in a semi supine position allowing maximum support and relief for the back. Tension shortens and bulks muscle, as we release this tension the muscle lengthens to its natural length creating ‘space’ in the joints and allowing the body to function unhindered. “When you stop doing the wrong thing, the right thing does itself” FM Alexander This is the crux of the Alexander Technique, to stop doing all the needless effort of holding ourselves up, the persistent gripping of our shoulders, neck and back and to inhibit the continual interference of our delicate balance. We learn to literally stop momentarily, to be conscious of what we are doing, then to undo the tightening, this in turn promotes our postural reflexes to work effortlessly, bringing about lightness of movement, balance and poise. “I am not asking you to DO anything, I am asking you to think” FM Alexander
That’s it in a nutshell
Awareness – Stop – Direct – Act The Alexander Technique is very simple but it is not easy, we are working fundamentally with who we are and how we behave. FM worked on himself for many years perfecting his technique and alleviating his voice problems. He said we can all achieve what he achieved and overcome our difficulties, if we do what he did! In our busy lives today time is of the essence , fortunately there is a much simpler and faster way to regain our youthful liveline and passion for living – employ the skills of an Alexander teacher.
Desylee Colomb teaches the Alexander Technique in St Albans. She qualified in 1993 at the Alexander Re-education Centre in Buckinghamshire, she has taught the technique in Oxfordshire and in Johannesburg and Pretoria in South Africa. Her interest in the relationship between movement and behaviour inspired her to study Psychology graduating with honours in 2006. 'A Day' on Lindisfarne Lindisfarne was the name given to the Island by the first Anglo-Saxons to live here and we do not know the meaning of the word. But the monks of Durham, after the Norman conquest, added the words Holy Island when they looked back over the story which began with the coming of Saint Aidan and the building of the first monastery in 635AD, continued with the ministry of the "very popular" Saint Cuthbert and then received a staggering blow from the Viking attack in 793. Both to the Durham monks who died as Christian marytrs in this pagan attack and the earlier saints made the Island was deservedly named "holy". Arrival-Departure-Tides Lindisfarne (Holy Island) is a tidal island and vehicles can only cross the causeway when the tide is open. Opening times vary significantly every day and you should familiarise yourself with the causeway opening times for the day of your visit! Unless you 'stop-over' (from when the causeway closes until it opens again) you could find yourself having to leave within 7 hours of getting here. Consequently, you may be forced to limit your 'day on Lindisfarne' to activities 'around the village'. If you need help in planning your visit - contact the 'Lindisfarne Centre'..
On the way over As you cross the causeway you will see Lindisfarne Castle (NT) in the distance. In the village, over the rooftops you will see Lindisfarne Priory's (EH) 'rainbow arch'. Entry will be free for 'National Trust' and 'English Heritage' members respectively. The 'Lindisfarne Gospels' interactive exhibition can be seen at the 'Lindisfarne Centre'. The opening times for the main attractions are available on the above sponsored web pages. But don't worry if you forget - just call in at the 'Lindisfarne Centre'. Arriving Most day visitors arrive at the Main Car Park - it can become quite full. Allowance should be made for delays caused later in the day by other traffice leaving the island. Keep the daily parking ticket it will work in Berwick, Wooler and Seahouses. Other visitors come by coach or use the local bus service and even on foot. Public toilets are located at the separate coach park - you may find our village map useful. More comprehensive information is available at the 'Lindisfarne Centre'...
Around the village A minibus operates around the village on a 'park-and-ride' basis and can be quite useful for those without the time or energy to enjoy the mile walk to the castle. Most visitors take advantage of the several delightful walks around the village enjoying the sea air and fabulous views. Some of the walks overlook the magnificent historic sites proving a 'taster' before paying for entrance. Information on the walks can be obtained at the 'Lindisfarne Centre'. The Lindisfarne Gospels Painstakingly worked and lovingly crafted over 1300 years ago on Holy Island and written 'in honour of God and Cuthbert', the 'Lindisfarne Gospels' is probably the most valuable and treasured book of its period. It is held on behalf of the nation, on view, at 'The British Library' in London. An interactive, electronic 'turning-pages' version and latest leather-bound facsimile have been kindly donated to 'Community Trust' by the library for display on the island. Both can be seen in a lifelike and atmospheric scriptorium setting created in the annex at the 'Lindisfarne Centre'. The Lindisfarne Centre The 'Lindisfarne Centre' provides a focus for the visitor with up-to-date information on and about the Island on-tap from well-informed local staff. For a small entrance fee you can visit our compact exhibition museum. Interactives include: 'The Lindisfarne Gospels', 'The Scriptorium', 'The Community Speaks' and 'Island Overview'. Entry is through a modern, spacious, well-stocked shop where a wide range of quality items are on sale. Much of what is sold is not available elsewhere in the village some is unique.

Oscar is not suicidal, legal expenses under control Oscar Pistorius is in deep mourning but despite the tragic circumstances he is certainly not suicidal, as has been rumoured The family’s spokesperson, Oscar’s uncle, Arnold Pistorius, says Oscar has an excellent support structure in his family. “From the moment we were first informed about the dreadful event of the early morning of 14 February 2013, we have worked hard to come to terms with the sad news of Reeva Steenkamp’s death and Oscar’s role in it. “As a family it drew us closer together, supporting and encouraging each other, praying for Oscar – whom we love and who remains our son, brother and nephew. We have all been deeply affected by what transpired. “Oscar, broken as he currently is, believes he has a purpose in life and is working towards that. Media reports to the contrary are untrue,” says Arnold Pistorius. While the family doesn’t deny that Oscar’s legal expenses are massive and that he has sold off some of his investments, including his racehorses, Arnold says Oscar will evaluate the cost situation on a dayto-day basis and make decisions as required. “We are acutely aware of the fact that this is only the beginning of a long road to prove that, as we believe, Oscar never intended to harm Reeva Steenkamp. We also realise that the law must run its course, and we respect this process. “As a family, we remain confident that this will prove to have been a terrible and tragic accident, which has changed many lives forever. “Of course Oscar will never be the same, having to live with the knowledge that he caused the death of the woman he loved, but he is coping as best he can with the support of his loved ones,” Arnold Pistorius says.

Ernst Joubert No.8 Born: 05 Aug 1980 Height: 6ft 4in (1.93m) Weight: 16st 12lb (107kg) Date Joined: 01 Jul 2009 Previous Clubs: Lions Honours: Debut: 5.9.09 vs London Irish Status: Fully Fit Total Appearances: 111 Player Sponsor: The Vickers Family
Bio Ernst Joubert was a new and somewhat unknown signing for Saracens fans when he made the move to London at the start of the 2009/10 season – but he is now regarded as one of the best No.8s in England after three seasons with Saracens. Those three seasons spent in North London means he is now qualified to play for England. The powerful ball-carrying skills and broken field running and work in the lineout made him one of the Premiership’s best performers and he was named in the shortlist for player of the season in his first campaign in England…and he remains consistently one of the league’s top performers. A natural leader, the back row made the move to London from Super 14 outfit the Lions where his last appearance for the team came as a replacement against the British and Irish Lions on their tour to South Africa in 2009. Injury to captain Steve Borthwick saw Joubert take up the armband for the last two months of the 2009/10 campaign where his and the team’s achievements included the club’s first ever win against Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.

Joubert was a key member of the squad that lifted the 2011 Premiership title and seen by many pundits as the best No.8 in the competition.
