The purpose of our chapter is to support the mission of AI. This is an excerpt of AI’s mission: "We are people from across the world standing up for humanity and human rights. Our purpose is to protect people wherever justice, freedom, truth and dignity are denied. We investigate and expose abuses, educate and mobilize the public, and help transform societies to create a safer, more just world. We received the Nobel Peace Prize for our life-saving work." Middle school students who join Amnesty will choose a human rights campaign to work on this school year and work to educate our communities. This may take the form of phone-calling or letter writing campaigns, setting up a table on campus or on 24th Street, or hosting a speaker. This work is rewarding and educational! Solveig Dimon is the SFS Librarian, Naturalist, kitchen assistant, and has taught Amnesty International for many years.
