for Members & Sponsored Guests
Overview
On behalf of the entire staff of The Santa Lucia Preserve, we would like to extend our hand in hospitality as we continue in this land’s long legacy of merry-making and celebration.
The solitude of Spanish California ranchos lent special significance to the arrival of friends, who were entertained with feasts, music, and horseback adventures.

Guests of early Rancho San Carlos (the former name of this sprawling 20,000 acre estate) danced the quadrille to the music of one of the three pianos then in California. In the 1870s, author Robert Louis Stevenson’s wife-to-be wrote of the excitement of a festive family rodeo here. In the Redwood Camp during the Jazz Age, chorus girls kicked, prize fighters fought, and barbecue chefs served hundreds.
Today, The Preserve carries on this proud tradition of rustic festivities, awe-inspiring galas, and spontaneous hospitality, true to our present-day community’s care-free California spirit.

The exclusive purpose of the Club is to provide the amenities, service, cultural opportunities, and gracious informal hospitality which support the interests, pleasure, and enjoyment of Members and create a unique dynamic social environment.
Attention to specific customs and courtesies has become crucial to the harmonious and gracious experience of all Members, their families, and friends. These guidelines are not meant to be allinclusive or to replace good judgment and respect for Members and The Preserve as a whole.
Please insure that this purpose is met by following these Customs and Courtesies and insisting that you and your guests do likewise:
Customs & Courtesies In General:
You are responsible for the behavior and decorum of your guests.
You and your guests are requested to pick up after yourselves and to leave the entire Club facilities tidy for the enjoyment of all members and guests, particularly in the Hacienda and Polo Pool areas, locker rooms and workout facilities, lawn games, and the Equestrian Center.
You and your guests are not to reprimand employees of the Club. You are urged to express your complaints and suggestions to the General Manager or the Club’s CEO. Written communication is preferred but such information provided verbally is welcome anytime.
You may not ask employees of the Club to provide personal or special services or to leave the premises to perform errands without the approval of the General Manager or the Club’s CEO.
You and your guests may not abuse any of the Club’s employees verbally or otherwise. Any employee not rendering courteous and prompt service should be reported to the General Manager or the Clubs CEO.
The CSD Vehicle Code of Conduct has been adopted by the Club and applies to the Club facilities. No unlicensed vehicles or unlicensed drivers are permitted on the Club facilities.
No motorized vehicles are allowed off-road or on Preserve trails and pathways unless used by staff to perform work or for emergency purposes.
Food & Beverage Control
All food and beverage, with the exception of wedding cakes and specialty dessert buffets (cake cutting fees and outside food handling fees will apply) must be supplied by the Club and served by the Club staff. All catered food and beverage must be consumed on the premises during the event time. The Club will prepare enough food for the guaranteed count.
Food service orders may not be decreased later than seven business days preceding the event. Provisions of insurance and health regulations do not allow food expressly prepared at the Club to be removed from the premises. Exceptions are leftover cake brought in and food expressly prepared for take-out orders. Consumption of alcoholic beverages will be refused to anyone under the age of 21 years and anyone who does not have proper photo identification. The Ranch Club reserves the right to refuse service of alcohol to anyone who appears to be intoxicated.
Those employed by the Ranch Club must both open and serve all alcohol, including beer and wine. Alcoholic beverages may not be self-served in any area or grounds of the Ranch Club. All liquor service that falls under the Ranch Club liquor license must meet the standards set by the Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
