Jade Hassouné is most known for his part in the well-known series Shadowhunters as Meliorn. And today, he opened up to us about the Shadowhunters series, his new projects and his personnal life. He put his game strong and he’s a new light in the Hollywood world. Let’s see a new side of him. ... Hello Jade! first question : How is it to play in a huge and loved show like Shadowhunters? You guys have a huge fandom! Hi! First thanks so much for this awesome feature, the editorial was so fun to shoot, we had the best day. Shadowhunters has been a dream come true in so many ways. The best part, the fandom, is such a huge bonus that came with doing what I love, they are a force of love and we are so lucky to have been embraced by them in this way. I'm proud to be in the #ShadowFam, a member of the #ShadowhuntersLegacy forever. You also sing, by the name of J4DE. Can you tell us more about this? This is where my life has been leading me all along. I've been waiting for this moment since I can remember dreaming about my future. And this year, my inner-self made it very clear to me that the time was NOW! As is it always, now is all we have.

What inspired you to write your EP "Love letter to a Fandom"? I wanted to thank the fandom for having showered me with love all these years, and I wanted to make our connection even more eternal by continuing this relationship in a deeper way, in the form of music that we can share and sing together. It is my way to make our bond last forever and to honour our past and to look forward to the future together. It's my way to give back and to celebrate life together. What better way than music and dancing? What's a show you would love to be in? American Horror Story, Rupaul's Drag Race as a guest judge, Sense 8 (RIP) or anything created by the Wachowskis. You have been nominated for multiple awards in the past. How did you feel when you were recognized for your work? It's always nice to receive acknowledgement for your art. I have to mention though that having incredible co-stars and directors are a big reason for the quality of work that ends up existing. I am lucky to have such a great network of friends/cocreators. And people who believe in my work as well. I'll always take working for people I respect who believe in me, any day! Collaboration and lifting each other up is what it's about!

Do you have any new projects that are coming out soon? Yes! I've got a mini series created by my brilliant friend Supinder Wraich where I will play a wonderful LGBTQ character that I adore. And I've also just finished shooting an indie feature film that is sure to be great! Stay tuned. How do you see your character Meliorn? Do you have things in common with him? Meliorn is a wise being who's been living for 147 years, who has watched the human drama play out and who wants no part in it, unless he is told to interfere by his Queen. I adore this elfin dude. Yes, I do have things in common with him. We both meditate, we both have long hair (for now!) and we both love nature. I'd say that I am loyal to the people I love and my friends, the way he is loyal to Isabelle Lightwood, even if it gets him in trouble and gets his face cut in half. How did you react when you got the part of Meliorn? I jumped of pure joy and cried a good cry. It was a role I had always dreamed of, and after a long process of auditioning for a month, and reading

10

for them five times, it was a big relief and wonderful pay off. I also wanted to be part of this group of cuties who I am proud to call my close friends. I didn't know that the fandom would become my family in the way it has. That was a wonderful surprise. You also star in the Canadian web series "That’s my DJ". How do you think this series speaks to the new generation? It reminds everyone that if you have a dream, it can come true. It also reflects the shadow reality of the party scene and how it is not all flashy lights and happiness, that it can get dark. It shows you that even through a very dark time and no matter how deep you've fallen in the downward spiral, you can always pull yourself back up and get back on your path. It shows that friends are one of the most precious things in life, it reminds you to never give up. That things turn around for the better when you believe they can. It shows that it's okay to get lost for a while and that you can ask for help and that people are there for you. But it reminds you that you are the one who has to make that choice, and when you allow the help around you to come through, then you are even more powerful.

Remember this name that may be the next big voice in the industry. The little singer has started getting attention when she was on the show of Perez Hilton « Can U Sing » at only 10 years old. Now, she’s a 14 years old singer, and she deliver her single « Limbo » for our greatest pleasure. She co-wrote this song, the reflect of her journey as a teenager. She writes about her feelings, her life and her adventures with a very fresh and incandescant tones. Meeting with the future new pop sensation Aja9. ... Hello Aja9, can you tell us a little bit about you? Hi, I am a 14 year old singer from Toronto, Canada. I began singing by the time I could talk. At the age of 10, I won the Perez Hilton "Can you sing" cover contest for my cover of Chandelier by Sia. That win allowed me to persue music on a professional level. I love writing songs, playing piano, and guitar. This June I will be going on tour with Alex Aiono and 4th Avenue. This will be my 2nd North American tour. I am so excited, I love performing live. Why did you want to become a singer? Is it a dream from the very beginning? Becoming a professional singer has always been a dream of mine. I have always loved music and can't imagine doing anything else.

18

I am constantly singing wherever I am. What would you do if you weren’t a singer? If I weren't a singer I would probably be doing more acting. As a grown up, I would probably become a lawyer. My parents say I am a very good negotiator. How would you describe your music style? I feel that my music style has kind of an urban pop feel. I love so many different genres of music and I feel that it has helped shape my musical style. For me, It is important that my songs sound like me. I hate when vocals sound computerized or distorted unless there is an artistic reason to do it. Can you tell us a bit about your new song Limbo? Limbo is a single that is a true reflection of who I am at this particular moment in my life. I have constantly heard how young I am and how I should be patient for the next few years like there is a magic age in the music industry. I don't feel like I sound 14 and I don't feel like I'm 14, so I often feel like i'm living in a state of Limbo. With which artist would you want to collaborate with? And why? Probably Shawn Mendes, I feel like he's been releasing hit songs that stick. I love collaborating. There are so many artists I love but would not necessarily want to collaborate with.

saturnemagazine - 19

20

What does your artist name means? Aja is my first name and 9 is short for my last name You did multiple collabs like on ÂŤ us Âť with the boysband 4th Ave. How was it? I loved recording and performing Us with 4th Avenue. They are extremely talented. I was on tour with them in January of this year. They are an impressive group of artists. They all 4 have their own unique style. I also really adore all of them. They are the sweetest group of boys. Can't wait to be on the next tour with them. They are like big silly brothers with me. We have lots of fun together. Any album or other project coming soon or something you are actually working on? I have lots going on. I am really excited to be going on tour in June, My EP is coming out late May, and I will be releasing a music video for Limbo. I am really excited to share what I have been working on. Which advice would you give to someone who

want to start in the music industry at a young age and is very passionate? The advice I would give to someone as young as me trying to get in to the music industry would be, work very hard, you need to work on your social media and build your numbers. I would say talent always shines through but i'm not so sure about that. If you can build an online fan base then doors will open for you. Who are your inspirations in music and in life in general? I have many musical inspirations. I love Ariana Grande she is an amazing vocalist and performer. Rhianna, Beyonce would be 2 others. I also love artists who are no longer here like Michael Jackson and Sam Cooke. Inspirations in life would be my parents. They are amazing role models and support me in the most loving way. Would you like to do something else in the field of art? Like playing on movies for exemple? I will always be a singer no matter what but I also love acting. It would be great to play different characters in meaningful films/ tv shows

Lifestyle & Wellness

By Lyna Allet

Kourtney Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Kerr… Those are the few names who created a lifestyle website, to give us their best tips when it comes to wellness. So, because you deserve it and we ALL need to take time for us, here’s a non exhaustive list to take time for us, but, because we take care of the planet, with some little tips to help her too. ... 1. Yoga I bring to you nothing new but yoga is an ancestral art from India that liberate ourselves. There is actually diverse forms of yoga, like meditation. But i tried a more « acrobatic » yoga to be in shape this summer. Going to a class would be simpler so, because i like challenge, i watched some youtube videos, more accessible, free and without any engagement. I did a couple of session and let me tell you that i was truly surprised. I used to have opinions on yoga and when i finally tried it (thank you Alessandra Ambrosio) i was sweaty. This is one thing you don't expect if you know nothing in yoga (like me) but it can be really intense. This is amazing and it helped me in a lot of ways, so put on your fav sport ouftit and start yoga ! Tips : Prepare yourself, drink a LOT of water after the session (in a reusable bottle of course, plastic is out), and watch beginners video if you never did it. More helpful.

32

2. Breakfast Like some of people and maybe some of you, I don’t have the time to take an healthy breakfast, or even sometimes don’t have time at all to have breakfast before leaving the house. So here the simplest and easiest recipies for an healthy breakfast. First of all, for a simple smoothie, pick a banana, and another fruit of your choice, add some chia seeds and juice if it’s too thick for you and there you go. An easy and fast smoothie. For the second one, I use a low fat greek yogurt, or a non dairy yogurt, I add some jam without added sugar, some muesli and chia seeds, maybe some banana and here I am. In a great shape, with a healthy breakfast. Oh, and don’t forget to drink water all-day-long. You are a plant : you need sun and water. Tips : For the smoothie, use a metal straw, we’re saving turtles. Oh and please, take a reusable coffee cup instead of going to the coffee shop every morning. More ecologic and less expensive than buying new coffee everyday. 3. Meal Yes, I know, i’m cheating, I could do breakfast and meal together but no. I won’t. I'm myself a big eater and I have difficulties to have boundaries when it come to eat. I start to eat healthy and then, i will eat a chocolate bar one hour after my lunch. So, for helping you (and me) to eat healthier I would propose you my favorite salad in the world.

You take any salad, you add tomatoes, cucumber, olive and salmon. You add a little bit of pomegranate and chia seeds. For the sauce olive : oil, salt and lemon juice. On the side, you take a slice of complete bread with avocado on it. And there you go, the best salad in the world and a little avocado toast. Healthy and most important, delicious. Tips : Try to eat less meat. It’s a big source of pollution. 4. Skincare Having a basic skincare routine is not only my longest relationship, but also one of my favorite thing to do in the morning. And I may not have the time to have breakfast but I assure you I really have the time to do my skincare routine. So, since I went to the USA last october, I thought it would be a great occasion to have a proper skincare routine. So, I will share with you the easiest step to have a good base for a skincare routine. First of all, do a research about your skin, this is the most basic and yet the most important things. A trend cream may not be right for your skin. Then, and I had this tip from a video of Valeria Lipovetsky, you apply your skincare « Thin to Thick ».

Facial spray first and cream last. Easy to remember. I personnaly apply a facial spray, then an acid hyaluronic serum and then my moisturizer. And for the night, I have my eye cream and my night mask. Don’t forget to cleanse your skin morning and night with a cleanser. And never forget the MOST important thing, even when it’s winter, sunscreen. Always wear sunscreen. Your skin will thank me in 20 years. Tips : Just check good products for your skin with less plastic possible. 5. Take time Skincare is great but sometimes all you need is to take time for yourself. And I’m not talking about skincare or long bubble bath. Sometimes self care is reading a good book, out of social medias for a day or even not talking anymore to someone who’s not good for you. Selfcare and wellness is about you and yourself only. So, the main things is to be fully in peace with yourself. So, start yoga if you want to, start to draw, dance and sing again. Don’t be afraid. Tips : Just take care of yourself and respect the planet. Because, like Lil Dicky said « We love the Earth. »

RJ Word

RJ Word is an American pop-artist with now a lot of singles on his back. He's trained with the greatest in the music industry, and just released his new single "Love Hurts". He’s ready to make us dance and sing along. We are now ready to meet him. ... How would you describe your musical style? If I had to give it a genre, I’d say Pop/Funk would be most accurate. I try to incorporate live instrumentation and jazz elements while still having modern/hard hitting electro drums. But it changes from song to song. What does the music represent for you? Music can enhance a situation just as easily as it can help you escape one. I typically like to make music that makes me feel happy, but everyone interoperates songs differently. “Love Hurts” is your latest release. Did you write this song about love in general or for someone in particular? This one was a “love in general” record. That said, I started a version of the song back in 2017 and it took a while to finish. During that time, there was more than one occasion where I felt like the record might’ve been coming true. You’ve started to have big visibility all around the world. Any tour dates coming soon? Nothing locked in at the moment. But we’re currently talking about doing some shows in Spain, Mexico, and Indonesia sometime this year. Follow my Instagram, @rjword, to stay updated on that! The best song you wrote so far and why?

What You Need is probably my favorite so far. For no reason other than the fact it was the first song I released where I wasn’t trying to make a “commercial” record. It was just a song I really enjoyed and wanted to put out. Love Hurts was both the next song I recorded and my next single. It’s a close second because I wrote it with the same intent and they feel like they belong in the same world. What has been the biggest challenge so far about making music your career? Perfecting a mix. It’s never perfect, even 50 versions in. Most people think I’m crazy that way but, my team and I seem to be getting closer with every song. If you weren't in the music industry, what would you want to do? I’m happy as long as I have an artistic platform to tell stories. Whether that's making films, acting in them, taking photos, sculpting or writing, I’ll be content. That is until I get bored and move on to the next medium. Being a recording artist in the 21st century gives me so many opportunities to express myself creatively. With content in such high demand, there's always something to make. Tell us about your new single “You Played Yourself”? You Played Yourself is a dance record I’m putting out with Spanish DJ, Victor Magán. It’s a little darker than my last 2 records and thanks to Victor’s influence, more modern too. I think it’s best to let the song speak for itself, leave it up to fans to interpret their own meaning. Are you working on new projects coming? Many more collaborations on the way this year! Check my socials to stay updated.

Gutierrez

PHOTOGRAPHY BY HEATHER KOEPP STYLING BY GABRIELA TENA MAKEUP BY HALI MC GOWAN

You may know Froy Gutierrez as an actor but he is also a singer-songwriter. The young man is ready to show a new facet of him, to share something different. We talked about music, acting and also upcoming projects. Be ready to (re)discover Froy. ... Hello Froy, we are going to start by talking about your music! First, Why did you want to make music and What does this represent for you? As an actor, there are plenty of projects that I want to work on behind the camera as well as in front of. That takes a ton of time, though. Music, on the other hand, has been a bit more of an organic process for me. Its allowed me to exercise my creative bones away from set and bring something meaningful and personal to the friends that follow my work. How does your songwriting process work? It really depends on the song! I have a song called hung out with god that I produced and wrote in my bedroom with a buddy helping with the melody. Crash, on the other hand, was written in a room with 3 other people whom I’d just met that day! I always have a quirky quality that I want to bring into each song, but aside from that its really open to the mood and the people I get to make art with. Can you tell us a little about your single « Fix me » ? Of course! I wrote Fix Me last fall in this little closet studio with Kyle Reynolds - we’d just met the day that we wrote the song. I had just been

reading comments on Twitter about the pressure some of the fans were struggling with in their mental health. The internet (and a few popular songs about mental health) has a sort of idea about what depression in particular looks like, how to tackle it and how to help the people who struggle with it. Kyle and I ended up settling on the theme of a song that says mental illness is messy, treatment is messy, recovery is messy and if your narrative feels off center then that’s more than okay. Your music talks about serious topics such as depression, do you think music is the best way to help people surpass that kind of disease? Definitely not the best way. If you’re suffering from mental illness, you need to seek tangible help in your life. Talk to your parents, friends, speak to a school counselor - even call the suicide hotline if you need to. See a therapist if you have the resources. Music can help - but it doesn’t have all the answers. Where it can be useful, however, is to remind you that you’re not alone. And while there are many songs addressing depression, I wanted to make one that felt lived in and aware of what it means to live with depression during & after treatment. Do you have models/inspirations on which you rely? I’ve met a few of my heroes and its never how you feel it will be. I’m nervous, hands are sweaty, I can’t speak. But I definitely have people whose work I admire deeply - musicians like Lorde, Frank Ocean, Green Day. Writers like Bo Burnham and Sam Esmail never cease to amaze me as well.

saturnemagazine - 41

42

saturnemagazine - 43

Can you tell us about your upcoming single «Crash »? Crash, like the name implies, is about that first impact moment when you collide with someone, and regardless of how messy you know its gonna get, you let yourself do it anyway. Do you have any projects you are actually working on? At the moment I’m shooting a Hulu show called Light as Feather, and next week I start on a movie called Dembanger. My hands are all jittery about next month, though. I get to spend a whole week in the studio hashing out some songs I’ll be releasing later in the year! And lastly I have some scripts that I’ve been incubating. With who would you want to collab on a single? There’s too many artists to count! I’ve always wanted to be a ghost writer for other people - but as far as collaborations go, I’d love to make a track with blackbear, Danny Ocean or Jon Bellion. At what age did you get the acting bug? And what made you want to get into acting? Its such a weird thing for me cause I’ve more or less always had the acting bug! Even when I couldn’t fathom doing it for a living, I would put on little shows in the living room with cardboard boxes. As I got older, I found it to be more than just an art, but a way of providing hope to other people. I was super lucky to volunteer in an acting troupe for Planned Parenthood that really shaped my perspective on the power of acting. What was it like being on Teen Wolf? That was a huge show! And what a big fandom! I know! It felt like a home - both on set and online.

44

The fandom was one I was familiar with thanks to Tumblr and my friend group in school. I just lucked out in that I got to go from being around the culture that Teen Wolf created to actually being on Teen Wolf. You were also on the first season of One Day at a Time, which has been canceled by Netflix. That was a totally different kind of show. How was it to play on it? And what do you have to say about the show in general? Right? Sitcoms can be difficult, not just because comedy is such a precise art form, but because the heart of a comedy isn’t always as obvious as a drama. One Day At A Time was different. It showed me that sitcoms can be so much more than a good time and a laugh track. I got to work with some brilliant Latinos who wove in complex sociopolitical issues into a funny, heartfelt show. As ODAAT talks about a lot of greats subjects like homosexuality, depression... and as you sing about serious topics like this, do you think it’s important to represent that on tv/movies? What change from music? I think that media of all shapes (music, drama, comedy) has a duty to reflect reality. If you want to make someone laugh, you need to agree on the reality of what is funny before we tell a funny joke. So often you see ‘edgy’ comedians tell ignorant jokes about marginalized communities - so its important that we not only make sure that all communities are represented, but that people from those communities get to be the ones to tell it. This includes diverse casts as well as diverse writer’s rooms. We’re making good changes now but we still have a long way to go, and I’m excited to see new stories be brought to the table.
