The media fee was voted down by a margin of only 9 votes, which is less than 1 percent. 11.43 percent of the student body, or 1,165 students, voted, a record turnout. This is a 48 percent increase over the 608 students who voted last year.

Student fees, grade forgiveness and tuition hikes were not the only controversial topics during election week. Several students stepped forward to address perceived unethical campaign actions from candidates. Evan Shelton, director of finance for the Student Government Association (SGA), said, “A group of candidates [decided], when they first wanted to run for president and vice president, to create a Facebook page, ‘Take Back UCCS,’ which was official campaigning.” The student government election application states, “There shall be no formal campaigning during any
