Keri Wolfe reflects on year as 2012 fair queen By Debbie Chestnut The Sentinel dchestnut@cumberlink.com
SHIPPENSBURG — Keri Wolfe says her reign as the 2012 Shippensburg Community Fair queen was an experience she will never forget. “I got to go to the fair every day and hand out ribbons in the livestock and agriculture events,” she said. “I helped out wherever I was needed, and I was in parades throughout the year.” Wolfe also enjoyed a Breakfast with Santa and Mrs. Cratchit’s Storybook Tea Party during Dickens Days, and she represented Shippensburg at the state fair queen pageant in Hershey. “That was fun,” she said of her trip to Hershey. “I got to meet a lot of girls from across the state.” Wolfe said she also gained confidence and learned time management skills. “I went away to college, so I had to balance time,” she said. “There were weekends I had to be home for certain things. And it helped with my confidence and interacting with other people.” Wolfe said she was encouraged by her friends to enter the pageant because it was something they could do together after high school graduation. “My friends and I kind of helped out (at the pageant in the past), and I always thought it looked like a lot of fun,” she said. “It was one of the last things to do with my friends before we all went our separate ways and left for college.”

Miss Shippensburg Community Fair Queen 2012 Keri Wolfe, sitting, and Miss Shippensburg Community Fair Sweetheart 2012 Michaella Mowers. Wolfe said she can’t believe she will be crowning a new queen in three weeks. She said the best advice she can offer to this year’s contestants is to have fun. “I would tell them to have fun and be themselves, and to enjoy every second of it,” she said. “For whoever wins, take every moment and enjoy it because the
year will go really fast.” Keri is the daughter of Scott and Cathy Wolfe, of Shippensburg. She has a younger sister, Alexis. Wolfe studied nursing at Shepherd University in West Virginia last year. This year, she plans to transfer closer to home and attend Hagerstown Community College.
