Welcome I start this edition of ‘4site’ smart magazine with a confession! I must admit that I had envisaged, with the cessation of conventional combustion engine technology happening within smart, the exciting announcement with Geely and the assumption of an awaited launch of the new smart EQ fortwo and forfour models, things would be a little ‘quiet’ until things really started happening. In addition, subscription-based Membership to the smartclub ceased earlier in the year as we moved to a more digital platform and focussed on ‘4site’, the EQ range and, of course, smart related motorsport.

Al Young Editor, Chairman & Managing Director thesmartclub ltd thesmartclub ltd. 1 Corbiehill Park Edinburgh EH4 5EQ UK Tel: +44 (0) 749-383-1430

Well I’m pleased to say my prediction of a ‘quiet’ period was significantly incorrect… In this issue we bring you the very latest news about the new smart EQ fortwo and forfour launching this month at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Fully electric with some interesting innovation and design, the models are sure to generate interest in advance of any new Geely derived successors in 2020. We have a feature about the recent announcement with Geely - Geely employs more than 50,000 people, operates 12 vehicle manufacturing plants, 9 powertrain plants and manufactures vehicles under the Geely Auto brand. Geely vehicles are sold through a network of over 850 dealerships in China and some 350 sales and service outlets in overseas markets. And while they have global interests, it’s interesting to note that in May this year, Geely opened a new research and development facility at Raunheim, Germany, to accelerate innovation in new propulsion systems and next-generation mobility technology. The Geely Auto Technical Deutschland (GATD) facility, close to Frankfurt airport, is expected to employ around 300 engineers and technology specialists within the next few years, as the group accelerates its presence in electrification and new energy vehicles.

The current world of conventional combustion engines does not simply vanish however and we have a super write-up of the Final Collector’s edition smart fortwo designed by Konstantin Grcic cooperating with BRABUS. In addition to news elsewhere in the world of smart, we have had a quite magnificent series of smart related motorsport events across Europe. The season started April with the UK grid of 451s arriving at Snetterton for the opening race in the4twocup. Four weeks later, we were off to Vallelunga, Italy for the opening rounds of the smart EQ fortwo e-cup series. The smart EQ fortwo e-cup cars have been significantly developed since the 2018 series (details in the previous issue of 4site) and it was an impressive grid to start this series in May. thesmartclub was also proud to be able to bring these smart EQ e-cup races streamed live to thesmartclub Facebook page and we’ll continue to do so for the rest of the 2019 series. You can always keep up to speed on the latest qualifying and race results as they happen via the smart Racing Club. In addition, this issue of 4site brings you all the 2019 results for the year to date (at the time of publication) and are also delighted to include a number of 1-on-1 driver interviews from the smart EQ fortwo e-cup to a number of key questions about the race series to date. Thank you for your continued support of thesmartclub. Best wishes Al Young Chairman & Managing Director thesmartclub ltd

News from smart

The new generation: ground-breaking, digital, urban Stuttgart/Frankfurt. The new generation smart is one thing above all: authentically electric. The brand returns to its origins with the systematic switch to emission-free, battery-electric powertrains. In combination with progressive design and intelligent connectivity, smart already offers a sustainable and comprehensive concept for urban mobility today. Rethink – “The car of the future must question existing notions and inspire with radical and ground-breaking technology ideas”, as Mercedes-Benz studio engineer and visionary Johann Tomforde put it in a nutshell back in 1972. Since then, Mercedes-Benz has worked on a concept of a purely urban vehicle whose powertrain needs to be not only electric, but also a solution for future urban mobility challenges. The smart with environment-friendly electric powertrain finally became a reality in 2007 with the concept of visionary Nicolas Hayek. Since then, smart has offered an all-electric option in every generation. With the new fortwo and forfour models, the time has finally come: smart is switching to emission-free, battery-electric powertrain technology across the board. “As a pioneer of urban mobility, it has always been part of smart’s credo to rethink things. The switching of the entire product range to all-electric powertrains marks the start of a new chapter in the story of the smart brand. In concert with innovative sharing concepts and digital services, we are the first manufacturer to switch completely and systematically from combustion engines to solely electric powertrains”, as Daniel Lescow, Head of Brand and Product Management smart, explains the motivation behind the dawn of a new era for the brand.

News from smart

The new generation: ground-breaking, digital, urban continued... Rediscover – A new era. In design, too

A smart makes life in the city easier. With its radical concept and new ideas, smart has always offered the right solutions for urban daily life. At the same time, it is always easy to use and intuitive to understand. Trimmed down to the essentials, a smart gives you more time, more energy and, above all, more freedom. With the systematic switch to battery-electric powertrain technology, smart is now driving back to the future. The brand does not need to reinvent itself at all to do so, it merely has to rediscover itself. Because electric power was always meant to be at the heart of the smart. To express this, the designers drew inspiration from the iconic details of the first generations and interpreted them for the new era of electric mobility. As a result, an original becomes what it has always been: an electric original. “The new smart is radically simple. We orchestrated the typical smart identity with the new faces“, explains Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer Daimler AG. “In line with the smart DNA, we lower the grille and the headlamps above it and in this way create a sporty, progressive appearance.” Away from the playful in favour of the progressive: The new smart fortwo and forfour electric models now have different front ends for the first time. While the four-seater sports a dynamic “A-shape” open at the bottom with optional integrated fog lamps familiar from the Vision EQ fortwo show car, the fortwo keeps the familiar friendly face. With the return to the emblem-free “V-shape” grille in combination with the smart logotype above it, the brand is echoing the stylistic beginnings of the first models. The colour scheme is new for both models: For the first time, the front grilles of the fortwo and forfour are painted in the vehicle colour and no longer in a contrasting shade. The headlamps also ensure the new clarity in the structuring. With the systematic switch to battery-electric powertrains, there is also the option of bright and long-lasting Full-LEDs. smart now adopts the aspects of the forease and forease+ concept vehicles that excited people in its production models . Three large active LED elements provide not only a characteristic light graphic, but in addition to dipped beam and main beam also serve as direction indicators. In combination with the indicators, the new optional Full-LED headlamps also greet the driver with an impressive welcome show after unlocking the vehicle. The tail lamps on the updated smart models are another visual and technical highlight. Sporting the familiar rhombic basic geometry, hundreds of elaborately arranged LED lighting elements now form the lamp contours. Beneath the flat plastic cover, they provide not only a special depth effect, but also homogeneous illumination. This gives rise to an ever-changing light graphic, depending on the viewer’s distance from and angle to the vehicle. The remaining styling features stay typically smart. In concert with the wheels mounted flush in the wide wheel wells, its “one-and-a-half box“ design with the extremely short overhangs at the front and rear still results in the characteristic powerful stance on the road. The sight lines and the record-breaking manoeuvrability continue to be strong arguments in favour of the minimetropolist, of course. Its spaciousness likewise remains generous. The fortwo and forfour are still unrivalled when it comes to interior space in relation to exterior dimensions. No other car offers so much space on such a small area as the two new smart models. To enable even better use of the space, the designers devised an all-new centre console. In place of the hidden drawer at the side, there now is a large stowage compartment in front of the selector lever, which can be closed with a roller cover. Even the largest smartphones can now be stowed securely here. Alternatively, the new stowage compartment can also accommodate two coffee cups thanks to its removable dual cup holder.

Refresh – Always up-to-date: the new infotainment concept

Apart from the new centre console, the most striking innovation in the interior is the significantly expanded connect media system. The newly developed infotainment generation opens up a new dimension in flexibility and ease of use. The new UX concept means that, for the first time, smart purely relies on the seamless interaction with customer mobile phones and their computing power. By focusing on the essentials such as the eight-inch touch screen and high compatibility with various smartphone systems, customers receive not only a more affordable infotainment solution, but above all a solution that is intuitive for them to operate and upgradable. As soon as they switch to a new smartphone or a software update makes new apps available, they are immediately also introduced in the smart. With this customer-friendly concept, smart sets itself clearly apart from the competition and demonstrates that most often the simplest solutions deliver the greatest benefit.

Earlier this year, a new service for UK based smart car owners launched helping such owners to find a smart service or repair centre in a location to suit them. The ‘Help my smart’ online service allows users to select a geographic location, address, town, postcode of even part of a desired Retailer or Independent 3rd party company name. With full Google map functionality, once the desired area has been selected, markers identify smart Retailers and/or 3rd party companies who may be able to assist. A ‘pin’ on the map identifies the specific location of each such company and, when clicked, will offer full contact details and a direct link to that Retailer or 3rd party web site. As the service uses Google Maps, one can zoom to street level and use Google Street View to locate the premises. Retailers and 3rd Party companies (Independents) are further categorised indicating whether a company is a ‘Featured Retailer’ or ‘Featured Independent’. Such ‘Featured’ companies have further details, offers and promotions available via thesmartclub’s web site and/or ‘4site’ smart Magazine.

Issue 40 - 2019 - www.thesmartclub.co.uk

The service is providing incredibly popular with over 400 unique visitors per day visiting the service and this is increasing exponentially each month. The new generation: digital, continued... A smart forfour ground-breaking, for the “Best of theurban Best”:

Kristina Vogel

Remote – Infinitely digital. And vice-versa

smart is not only becoming infinitely electric, but also infinitely digital. In order to offer customers the best possible service, smart has redesigned its entire digital offering. The new appearance is not only easier and more intuitive to operate, it is above all standardised. Websites and smartphone as well as wearable applications now have the same minimalist interface. The smart EQ control app brings electrifying mobility to drivers’ smartphones. It is the digital companion for smart drivers and enables them to retrieve the status of their vehicle remotely. As a result, they always know their vehicle’s range and the battery charge level, and can conveniently plan their daily trips. Pre-entry climate control, which allows heating or cooling the car conveniently via app, is another of the app’s important functions. Since their introduction last year, customers have been using the digital services every two days on average. The further advancement of the smart EQ control app is based on this group’s feedback, wishes and suggestions for improvement. As a result, the app gets a new face to tie in with the model facelift. The design now dovetails with the newly designed minimalist interface of the digital smart services. However, not only the interface of the app was optimised. The new version also improves the direct interaction with customers. Thanks to the newly created communication field, the communication overlay, messages can be sent to the smart driver quickly and directly. This makes it possible to inform customers about upcoming maintenance or the status of the app, for example. Another request by customers was faster access to the most important features of the app. With the integration into the smartphone widgets and an Apple Watch application, smart now gives users information even more directly. With a quick glance at the Apple Watch on their wrist, customers can now retrieve the current battery status, check the vehicle range or start pre-entry climate control. This makes the smart EQ control app and its functions even easier to access and creates a digital connection between the customer and their smart.

“my smart”: keeping tabs on your smart

As the central port of call, “my smart“ forms the hub for all digital services related to the brand. Any time and anywhere. Customers can retrieve the location of their own smart in real time. “my smart” also enables remote access. This makes keyless locking and unlocking of the vehicle possible, for example.

smart “ready to” services: pooling digital added value

smart’s mobility offering has included customer-friendly services for six years now, making it a pioneer of comprehensive mobility services. smart “ready to” stands for innovative services which make life easier in the city. smart established the smart lab in 2016 as the brand’s think tank to accelerate the development and implementation of creative urban mobility projects. Further trailblazing services are under development at the smart lab. These will be made available successively to all smart drivers with the “ready to” package by means of over-the-air updates, without any need to visit a workshop. The services continue to be bundled in one mobile app and make smart a full-range mobility services provider. They make all aspects of motoring that much easier. Be it information on the car itself, recharging, parking, navigation, loading or even sharing with friends and neighbours – “ready to” has all these functions covered in a single mobile application. The all-new user interface makes using the services child’s play. The dashboard in modular design further enhances the user experience. The app even applies artificial intelligence to predict the user’s wishes according to the given situation. The developers at the smart lab are concerned not so much with creating a zeitgeist product, but rather with generating real added value. To this end, they are forging ahead with the ongoing development of smart “ready to” services. All services designed to make life in the city easier are bundled in a mobile application. Now for the first time, the services show users in the new “my smart” control centre not only status information when the vehicle is stationary, but also report charging stations ahead while driving when the battery has a low charge.

“ready to share”. sharing the easy way

Since 2016, smart “ready to share” has been making private car sharing as simple, safe and straightforward as using car2go. Authorised users can open friends’ smart models in a matter of seconds, using their smartphone. smart “ready to share” is smartphone-based and uses the vehicle’s keyless entry function. Three factors make smart “ready to share” unique: the safety and security of a solution provided by the manufacturer, complete control by the vehicle owner as the sole administrator and decision-maker, and simple and inexpensive handling. The payment function for “ready to share” helps smart owners who share their cars to split the costs, too. The smart owner can invite friends and acquaintances to use their vehicle in two user groups: users in the “Free travel” group get to drive the vehicle free of charge, while in the “Share travel costs” group the owner can set an individual price per minute. The payment data are stored to ensure problem-free payment. The payment function is initially available in Germany; the “ready to share” service is available in Germany, France, Spain and Italy.

“ready to park”: More convenient parking by app

The convenient online search function for parking spaces. With “ready to park”, a glance at your smartphone suffices to view the available parking options in your selected area in real time. In some instances, the located parking spaces can be reserved directly – for immediate use or up to 30 days in advance.

“ready to spot”: back to your smart in next to no time

The smart “ready to spot” service shows not only where the smart is parked, but also the best route to get there. The integrated “REACH NOW” app additionally enables various means of transport, such as local public transport or car sharing, to be compared and booked directly. Where necessary, the “ready to spot” app can also be used to briefly turn on the headlamps of the parked car to make it easier for the driver to find the vehicle.

“ready to pack”: easy loading

The “pactris” app has been helping smart drivers to load their car boot for two years now: “pactris” uses a sophisticated algorithm which tells the user whilst shopping whether and how everything will fit in the boot of the smart. The user scans the bar code on the product – for example in a furniture store – and the app, which is integrated into the “ready to pack” app, shows how the packages will fit in their smart. Alternatively, the user can select items from a constantly growing database where typical items are stored. This also shows whether, for example, a drinks crate or a packing case will still fit in the fortwo or forfour. The augmented reality function additionally enables scanning an object directly with the smartphone camera.

“theft recovery”: The digital early warning system against theft

Fast assistance when a smart goes missing. With “theft recovery”, users are informed by push notification as soon as their vehicle leaves an area they previously defined – the geofence. In the event of the vehicle leaving a pre-defined area, the user receives an automatic warning and step-by-step instructions on activating recovery mode. The app guides the user through the entire process, including notifying the police of the car theft with all the required information.

The new generation: ground-breaking, digital, urban continued...

Reinvent – Three clicks instead of a forty-five page price list

The days when you laboriously read through the price lists are over. With the new-generation smart, the equipment level structure also becomes smarter. In addition to the base model, the three familiar equipment lines passion, pulse and prime are available. Each line can be combined with one of three equipment packages. The smallest package, “Advanced“, already includes the new media system with smartphone integration, a front armrest as well as an acoustic parking aid. Building on it, the “Premium“ package additionally includes a panoramic roof or rather a draught stop on the fortwo cabrio, a reversing camera and a stowage net at the centre console. The top of the range is the “Exclusive“ package, which in addition to the “Premium” equipment has Full-LED lights at the front and rear as well as a sensor package comprising rain and light sensor, fog lamps with cornering light function, ambient lighting in the interior and an automatically dimming inside rear-view mirror. Now all the customer has to do is pick a colour, and their new smart is complete. That choice is now even more difficult, however, because the new models are available in new, fresh colours. For the fortwo, carmine red and gold beige are now available for the tridion cell and the body panels as well as lime green only for the body panels. The colour card for the forfour now lists ice white as a new colour for the body panels and the tridion cell. The new steel blue for the four-door model remains exclusive to the body panels. In the interior, there are new designs for the upholstery fabric and an additional colour option for the passion and pulse equipment lines. In addition to black/black, there is now also black/blue, which provides more contrast in the interior, including the topstitching and the accent pieces. Furthermore, there are four new rim designs. They are each available for the equipment lines in silver and bi-colour with diameters of 15 or 16 inches. Anyone looking to give their new smart EQ fortwo or smart EQ forfour a particularly clean and electric look can opt for two rims with especially aerodynamic styling. The 15-inch four-spoke light-alloy wheels and the 16-inch four-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels give the car a road-hugging appearance. In addition to enhanced dynamism and agility, the wheels underscore the clear commitment to the brand’s electric future.

Recharge – Quick and everywhere charger

To make recharging as easy as possible for drivers, smart offers a comprehensive charging concept for its new electric models. With its optional 22 kW on-board charger with rapid-charging function, the new models are charged from 10% to 80% range in under 40 minutes and without having to rely on rare direct-current charging stations if three-phase charging is possible, depending on local conditions. Thanks to the cooperation with charging network partner Plugsurfing, customers can now use virtually all public charging stations. These charging stations can be displayed with the smart EQ control app, and users can sign up with Plugsurfing directly in the app. But even those who only have a conventional household socket at home will be satisfied EV drivers thanks to the low consumption of the smart electric models. The smart charges enough for the average daily driving distance in a little over 3.5 hours at a 230V socket - entirely without a wallbox. Anyone who travels more often and above all farther from home will be delighted with the charging convenience of the smart EQ control app. The seamless integration of the registration and billing process at public charging stations in the completely redesigned smart EQ control app makes the smart a true everywhere charger.

Regain – electrifying driving fun

A short wheelbase and an immense track in combination with direct steering make the smart uniquely agile. The all-electric driving experience opens up a completely new dimension in driving enjoyment. With 160 Newton metres of torque available instantly, the new electric models accelerate far better than the 60 kW/82 hp of the separately excited synchronous motor in the rear might suggest. 4.8 seconds for 0 to 60 km/h when the light turns green makes the smart EQ fortwo coupĂŠ quick enough to draw astonished looks and provide low-noise driving enjoyment. The new smart models systematically continue to play to all the strengths of the battery-electric powertrain technology. Thanks to clever packaging and the return to the core of the brand, the concept remains light and resource-friendly, and offers sustainable mobility in metropolitan areas. That is why smart offers a deliberately compact high-voltage battery. The lithium-ion battery supplied by Daimler-owned Deutsche Accumotive consists of three HV modules and a total of 96 HV cells, and has a capacity of 17.6 kWh, sufficient for a range of 159 kilometres (NEDC). This corresponds not only to several times the average daily kilometres driven in Germany, but above all to a generous range in the metropolitan environment where energy can be recovered through recuperation. Radar-based recuperation in the city is a particularly convenient feature. It allows the smart to slow down automatically behind a vehicle ahead. Coasting and braking phases are perfectly coordinated to enable the maximum amount of kinetic energy to be returned to the battery. In order for the smart to keep a cool head even in extreme climatic conditions and under extreme stress, special attention was paid to the temperature management in the electric models. While generously sized air cooling is enough for the electric motor, its flange-mounted power electronics are liquid-cooled. Even the high-voltage battery can be completely conditioned. When needed, it is integrated into the cooling circuit of the powertrain to remain in the optimal temperature range under high permanent load or during fast charging, for example. The same is true when temperatures are extremely low. A battery heater enables warming up the battery for optimal performance and efficiency.

The final #21 of their kind: Final Collector’s Edition by Konstantin Grcic

Stuttgart. In 2020 smart will become the first automotive manufacturer in the world to have uncompromisingly switched its entire portfolio over from combustion engines to electric drives. Before smart goes all-electric next year, the brand is presenting an exclusive and strictly limited special edition of the final #21 combustion-engine vehicles - designed by Konstantin Grcic and for the most ardent collectors only. smart has stood for innovative mobility for more than two decades now. With the Final Collector’s Edition it is marking the beginning of a new era and 21 years of hands-on pioneering spirit. For the final #21 of their kind, smart is collaborating with internationally renowned industrial designer Konstantin Grcic to create a contemporary work of art for the road while at the same time marking the beginning of a new era in the history of the automobile. The edition centres on the idea of 21 years of smart, 21 vehicles, 21 years always a step ahead. The vehicles of the limited collection, which have been designed by Konstantin Grcic and realised in cooperation with Brabus, will leave the factory in August 2019, offering collectors and true smart fans a unique opportunity to take 21 years of pioneering spirit home with them.

The Final Collector’s Edition – the beginning of a new era

Before smart opens up the electric mobility chapter in earnest, the brand is taking a look in the rear-view mirror with an edition that pays tribute to what made the first smart vehicles with combustion engines so special, as captured in Grcic’s design for the final #21. “#21 commemorates something special, celebrating 21 years of smart. For me, it also symbolises much of what being 21 is about: being free, breaking boundaries, breaking out, showing your rebellious side. The Final Collector’s Edition brings this essential idea to life as we take our leave of a piece of automotive history,” says Konstantin Grcic. The declared watershed marking the beginning of a new era is embodied in the chosen colour concept and the design as a whole. The colour scheme is also a homage to the first-generation smart: From the brilliant yellow front end through the tag-style #21 marking to the matt black rear. The employed yellow is based on the original colour “hello yellow”, establishing the association with smart’s origins that is so important to the edition. ‘Reduce to the max’ was the mission statement for the very first vehicles. The idea back then was to cooperate with various artists. Swiss artist Roman Signer, for example, had the car drive through a form of tunnel, at the end of which a bucket of paint was poured over the smart. Grcic’s design for the Final Collector’s Edition, featuring a frazzled transition from yellow to black, also cites part of this history.

The final #21 of their kind: Final Collector’s Edition by Konstantin Grcic continued... A long-standing commitment to electric mobility In launching the Final Collector’s Edition, smart is staying true to its pioneering role. The smart brand is without parallel in the way it provides automotive answers to the ever-growing urbanisation of our world and offers innovative solutions to make life in the city easier and more attractive. Right at the very outset, visionary Nicolas Hayek considered the possibility of an environment-friendly electric drive for the smart. 100 all-electric smarts were finally delivered in London in 2007. The “electric drive”, Europe’s first series-production electric car, highlighted the company’s innovative prowess and its courage to explore new avenues. “smart remains much more than a car - it represents the grand vision of a new form of urban mobility. As such, the ground-breaking decision to switch the entire range to electric drives only as of 2020 is a perfectly logical step. For us, the Final Collector’s Edition marks both the end of an era and a new beginning as a significant milestone in the history of smart and towards a future horizon,” notes Daniel Lescow, head of brand and product management at smart, in explanation of the idea behind the final #21. About Konstantin Grcic Konstantin Grcic (*1965) learned cabinet making at the John Makepeace School in Dorset, England, before going on to study design at the Royal College of Art in London. In 1991 he established his own design studio in Munich, from where he has since relocated to Berlin. He works in various areas at his studio, from projects in the area of industrial and furniture design through exhibition design to collaborations in the fields of architecture and fashion. Works by Konstantin Grcic are included in the permanent collections of the world’s leading design museums (including MoMA/New York, Centre Georges Pompidou/Paris). Grcic defines function in a human context and combines an austere approach to design with considerable mental acuity and humour. A profound understanding of design and architecture and a passion for technology and materials inform each one of his works. Well known for items stripped down to their essentials, Grcic is often described as ‘minimalist’, though he himself prefers the term ‘simplicity’.

28 March 2019, Stuttgart, Germany; Hangzhou, China. Daimler AG (Daimler) and Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding), the German and Chinese automotive groups, today announced the formation of a 50-50 globally focused joint venture to own, operate and further develop smart, the pioneer of small urban vehicles, as a leader in premium-electrified vehicles. Under the joint venture agreement, a new generation of smart electric models will be assembled at a new purpose-built electric car factory in China with global sales due to begin in 2022. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said: “For more than 2.2 million customers, smart represents a pioneer in urban mobility. Based on this success story, we look forward to further enhancing the brand with Geely Holding, a strong partner in the electric vehicle segment. We will jointly design and develop the next generation of smart electric cars that combine high-quality production and known safety standards for sale both in China and globally. In the future, we are looking forward to working with all partners to sustain our success in China and worldwide. Separately, Mercedes-Benz will produce a compact electric vehicle at the Hambach plant, sustaining employment with further investment in the facility.” Li Shufu, Geely Holding Chairman, added: “We fully respect the value of smart. This brand has a unique appeal and strong commercial value. Geely Holding and Daimler look forward to this challenging and exciting new project, through which we will further push the introduction of premium electric products to give a better mobility experience to our customers. As equal partners, we are dedicated to promoting the smart brand globally; we will leverage our experience and global competencies in brand management, R&D, manufacturing, supply chain management and other areas. The synergies from this cooperation will lead to mutual benefits, at the same time we will further develop technologies for smart including connectivity, to continue to lead in the industry as it undergoes a wider transformation.” The board of directors of the new smart joint venture will be made up of six executives with equal representation from both parties. Daimler AG board representatives will include Hubertus Troska, Daimler AG Board of Management member responsible for Greater China, Britta Seeger, Daimler AG Board of Management member responsible for Marketing and Sales of Mercedes-Benz Cars, and Markus Schäfer, Member of the Divisional Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Production and Supply Chain and designated Board of Management Member responsible for Group Research and Mercedes-Benz Cars Development. Geely board representatives will include Geely Holding Chairman Li Shufu, Geely Holding President, Geely Auto Group President and CEO An Conghui, Geely Holding Executive Vice President and CFO Daniel Donghui Li.

The joint venture partners have agreed that the new generation of smart vehicles will be styled by the worldwide Mercedes-Benz Design network with engineering from Geely global engineering centers. Future production will be located in China. As part of the vehicle-development program, the smart product portfolio is also planned to be extended into the fast-growing B-segment. Prior to the launch of new models from 2022 onwards, Daimler will continue to produce the current generation of smart vehicles in its Hambach plant France (smart EQ fortwo) and at Novo Mesto (Slovenia, smart EQ forfour). In parallel, the Hambach plant will assume an additional new role in the Mercedes-Benz Cars production network and will produce a compact electric vehicle by Mercedes-Benz under the new product and technology brand EQ in the future. Mercedes-Benz is investing €500 million on the Hambach plant and will use the expertise of its experienced and motivated smart workforce. The joint venture is expected to be finalised by the end of 2019. Financial terms of the smart joint venture have not been disclosed. This joint venture follows the separate agreement between Daimler Mobility Services and Geely Technology Group announced last year, in which the companies agreed to cooperate on a new premium ride-hailing service in China. About Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely Holding) is a global automotive group that owns several well-known international automotive brands, with operations spanning the automotive value chain, from research, development and design to production, sales and servicing. Founded in 1986 by Li Shufu, the company’s Chairman, in the city of Taizhou in China’s Zhejiang province, Geely Holding launched its automotive business in 1997 and is now headquartered in Hangzhou, China. The Group comprises three businesses: Geely Auto Group, Volvo Car Group and Geely Commercial Vehicles Company. Its brands include Geely Auto, LYNK & CO, Volvo Car, Polestar, London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC), Yuan Cheng Auto, PROTON, Lotus, and Terrafugia. A statement from Daniel Lescow - Head of smart Brand and Product Management at DAIMLER AG Geely Holding Group and Daimler AG are planning to create a new 50-50 joint venture to further strengthen the smart brand and become a globally focused provider of electrified vehicles. This joint venture will be able to provide global scale and synergies to offer its customers premium products with superior quality. Both Geely and Daimler will provide shared capital, talent and expertise to develop the new generation of smart vehicles. With Geely, we have gained a strong, experienced and quality-focused partner in the segment of electric vehicles, including a strong and stable supply chain network. The new generation of smart cars will maintain the high quality customers are used to. The joint venture, after its formal establishment, will produce the next generation of electric models from smart in China and sell them from there internationally. The joint venture is going to offer several new electric models from smart, but it also aims to develop new mobility services linked to smart as envisioned in our showcar “smart vision EQ fortwo” – an autonomous concept developed by smart to combat the challenge of city traffic and emissions in the future through car sharing.

Ten years of sharing – and many new ideas for the future

Stuttgart/Paris. Daimler was the first manufacturer to put a fleet of 200 smart vehicles on the road for locationindependent carsharing in 2009. Ten years later, the sharing economy has grown into a booming industry – with carsharing as one of the most popular business models. The brand celebrated the anniversary together with SHARE NOW in Paris with a panel discussion on the topic. smart can rightfully call itself a pioneer of the sharing economy. In 2009, Daimler established the first fleet for free-floating carsharing in Ulm with 200 smart vehicles. One year before, car2go – today SHARE NOW – had started operations as the first locationindependent carsharing system worldwide. Today, SHARE NOW has more than four million customers around the world, more than three million of them in Europe alone. The service provides some 20,000 vehicles, including 3200 electric cars. Customers take advantage of the offer in 31 cities in 14 countries for more than 100,000 drives a day, with more than 12,000 of them on all-electric power. “When we started in Ulm in 2009, the sharing economy was still in its infancy. Today, free-floating carsharing is a perfectly natural part of the daily routine in larger cities. We are delighted that we at smart together with SHARE NOW have shaped this field from the very start and have also paved the way for private carsharing. Because carsharing reduces congestion, air pollution and parking shortages. smart delivers the perfect vehicles for this purpose”, says Jakob Luickhardt, Portfolio Strategy and Hardware smart Services.   Anniversary with panel discussion Paris is considered the “first mover” in matters of innovative mobility services. An all-electric smart fleet numbering 400 vehicles has been in flexible carsharing operations there since the beginning of the year. An ideal place for celebrating the sharing economy anniversary of the brand. The highlight of the event was a panel discussion on the subject of the “Sharing Economy”, in which Jakob Luickhardt, Simon Broesamle, Chief Business Development Officer SHARE NOW as well as strategy consultant, speaker and blogger Stéphane Schultz took part. Amongst other things, the discussion centred on the question of how needs-based, sustainable and efficient passenger transport can be designed in the future. How can traffic be reduced and city-centre infrastructures be relieved? How can a new urban quality of life be created? “Each of our vehicles already replaces up to eight private cars today and thus makes an important contribution to a higher quality of life in the cities. In high-density metropolises such as Paris, the all-electric smart is the most popular carsharing vehicle for the customers of SHARE NOW and an optimal complement to the public transport network and other mobility solutions”, says Simon Broesamle.

24

Carsharing with smart – simple, flexible, private smart plays an important role not only with regard to free-floating carsharing. With the “ready to share” service, the brand has been making private carsharing as simple, safe and straightforward as using SHARE NOW since 2016. Authorised users can open their friends’ smarts in a matter of seconds using their smartphone. smart “ready to share” uses the vehicle’s “keyless entry” function. Three factors make “smart ready to share” unique: the safety and security of a solution provided by the manufacturer, complete control by the vehicle owner as the sole administrator and decision-maker, and the simple and inexpensive handling. The payment function for “ready to share” helps smart owners who share their cars to split the costs, too. The hardware and the data processes for this are identical to those of the SHARE NOW technology. The technology builds on tried and proven components.   The mobility of the future – multi-modal, convenient, sustainable The target vision is a mobility that is no longer guided by the question of how to get from point A to point B with a previously defined means of transport. Future mobility concepts focus on how customers can travel a route preferably conveniently, safely, quickly and in a sustainable fashion using a combination of different means of transport. This takes offers of the public transportation network equally into account along with sharing services ranging from minibuses to bicycles and even pedestrian routes. Digital services calculate the routing and open up the possibility to book and pay for all stages and services. The first components for this multi-modal and sustainable mobility vision have already been put in place at SHARE NOW and smart and are being expanded continuously. smart – all-electric into the future smart is the world’s first car brand to complete the systematic switch from combustion engines to electric powertrains. By 2020, smart will gradually reduce the range of combustion engines in all European markets and switch over completely to the locally emission-free, battery-electric powertrain for the smart fortwo, fortwo cabrio and forfour. The electric models from smart combine the agility of the smart with locally emission-free driving. SHARE NOW – the world’s largest carsharing company SHARE NOW is the world market leader in flexible carsharing and one of five mobility services in all to emerge from the joint venture founded by BMW Group and Daimler AG in 2019. With SHARE NOW, the previously independent offers car2go and DriveNow form a joint carsharing service. The fleet comprises attractive vehicles of the smart, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Mini brands.

Five questions for the Top 5 drivers in the smart e-cup 2019 has already been a year of great news and great spectacle for the smart EQ fortwo e-cup. And it’s grown to become the ACI Sport Italian Alternative Energies Championship. The 20 cars, which will become 22 from the next Vallelunga round, competed in 6 races, giving 4 different winners and a Top 5 who are all very close and ready for the final challenge. Vittorio Ghirelli (# 9 by Mercedes Benz Roma) and Giuseppe De Pasquale (# 85 by RSTAR) lead the standings without having won yet, while Lorenzo Longo (# 7 by Novelli 1934) is third thanks to two victories, as well as the reigning champion Fulvio Ferri (# 28 by Merfina), fourth, while Gianluca Carboni (# 10 by Rossi) is fifth with a single win. We met them before the summer break and we asked each of them five questions. So, let’s get to know these gladiators better! Question 1 - We’re in the middle of the season, how do you rate your first part of the season?

# 9 VG: “The championship is still long and we will have to fight. For now it went quite well, I managed to be constant and get good points in all the races. But you can always do better!” # 85 GdP: “I was constant, I made four podiums on six races, I would say well! Of course, there is a bit of regret for the victory in race 2 at Misano and the Adria weekend, ruined by two shunts. All in all, however, I believe I have limited the damage well, for now I can be satisfied with the championship.” # 7 LL: “The championship is a futuristic reality that at the moment has no equal in the world and for this I will always thank Novelli who gave me the opportunity to participate. I hope to be able to dedicate to his city, Genoa, which today is trying to find new light after the tragedy of the Morandi bridge. Some important results: so far we have achieved 2 victories in 6 races and this makes me very proud and confident. I have made some mistakes and lost important points, but we are aware of being able to fight with the best!” # 28 FF: “So far it has been an exciting season, hard fought and tough. The first few races were very good with two wins and the head of the championship, less Adria, where I lost ground. But we are still there, we are many, perhaps too many, to play with it, but at Vallelunga we start again. # 10 GC: “Positive in the middle: a great start at Vallelunga with a second and a first place, then unfortunately a penalty at Misano deprived me of so many points that would have made me uncomfortable and then Adria, total disaster! Especially after the pole “I hope it doesn’t weigh much for the final result. Let’s be disappointed in half, happy in half!”

Question 2 - Three races in the end, where do you think you can make a difference? What is your strategy for the final part of the season? # 9 VG: “There is not one track in particular where I am better and I don’t have big plans. The important thing will be to get ahead in all the races. I’m sure thanks to my smart EQ fortwo # 9 from Mercedes-Benz Rome I will be able to fight for the title of “Italian” ACI Sport Italian Champion until the end! “

# 85 GdP: “Making the difference will be very difficult against these adversaries. I will certainly try to win, I always went close without ever getting it, but I will never lose sight of the championship standings. If I am among the first today, I owe it to consistency. LPD has devised a futuristic championship, I am convinced that the electric will have an increasingly important place in motorsport. I am part of this great family and I thank the R-STAR of Palermo who gave me the opportunity to represent them! I hope not to disappoint them. The war plan for the season finale is simple: try to win them all or at least always get ahead of my direct opponents for the championship!” # 7 LL: “We will always have to aim at the maximum and bring home as many points as possible. I like the next circuits very much. Confronting myself with such a fierce grid gives me the right energy and determination. The strategy will always be the same: to push past and improve my chances to reach the top! And in this I know that my coach Federica De Vecchi will be my extra weapon! “ # 28 FF: “That will be my home track, but Vallelunga has always brought me good, aiming to make a double to put the situation in line. There I will play a lot and I will understand how to put on the season finale. And then it is a bit like the home track for Merfina, which allowed us to be here today, so ... “ # 10 GC: “Here the difference is made by making a result, without throwing free points away on the track. The level of competitiveness of the category and of the other drivers is decidedly high! I really like Vallelunga and I have shown it, Magione and Franciacorta will be two tracks I believe it will not be easy to overcome with the smart e-cup, the qualification will be fundamental where I hope to repeat the result of Adria and Vallelunga! “

26

4site - the columns that support thesmartclub’s website

Question 3 - Who do you think will be your toughest opponent?

# 9 VG: “In the top 5 we are all very fast, we will have to fight. Surely one more eye for the Roman gladiator Fulvio Ferri, but we will also keep Depa, Carboni and Capra under control who are doing well!”

# 28 FF: “Thanks to the weight reduction and some other changes that have made it more competitive, this year the smart e-cup has become really fun to drive and much faster. When a race weekend ends you can’t wait that the next one arrives, the races are beautiful, fought and exciting, the atmosphere in the paddock is the right one, we are really enjoying ourselves. “

# 85 GdP: “The tough opponents are many, the smart e-cup races have taught us that there is not a ruler but many gladiators, we fight each other, for the first as for the twentieth place. To date, even mathematically, almost everyone can still win the championship. Making a single name would be an understatement, I’m sure that in the last of Franciacorta we will still be able to fight for the ACI Sport Italian electric title.”

# 10 GC: “In a very cool and professional way! Seriously, it is a machine that rewards a lot of the exit speed of a curve, because in a straight line it tends to “stall “the limiter. It must be made to flow very, with clean lines, without being too aggressive during braking and with little steering angle. Rewards are gained from driving very smoothly, often several overtakes are made with intersection of lines coming out of corners.

# 7 LL: “It is difficult to identify only one. In the top five they are all tough opponents but I have the impression that we should deal with one or more outsiders ...”

Question 5 - The smart fan boost could have an impact on the season finale, convince your fans to vote for you en masse!

# 28 FF: “Good question, we are five to fight and we will take each other points. Watch out for De Pasquale, he has not won yet but it has been so constant, Ghirelli was really fast in the last races but I would not underestimate Carboni either Longo. “ # 10 GC: “My # 10, at Adria we are not ... understood! Seriously, the first four are all valid drivers, but I think that in the end the toughest are also the most experienced, so watch out for Ferri and de Pasquale! “

Question 4 - How do you drive this smart EQ?

# 9 VG: “The electric smart is a lot of fun to drive. It is important to be on the limit in all corners but at the same time to drive clean so as not to ‘kill’ speed. It is difficult to find references. It would be nice to see them at work in European tracks and I think that LPD Italia is already thinking about it. My congratulations for having created the tourism championship of the future! “ # 85 GdP: “Unlike what it seems, driving the smart e-cup is very difficult. The braking system makes it possible to stop the car in just a few meters, the center of gravity is very low so grip at the center of the curve is impressive Thanks to this it is possible to go to the accelerator almost immediately without almost having to stop between brake and gas and making it very exciting, if we add that the great bend allows us to be paired in three, there is fun both thos einsid ethe car and fun for those outside the car!” # 7 LL: “Like all racing cars, even this smart e-cup is driven with the ... ‘ass’. Paraphrasing a little Niki Lauda. Despite being close to the road version, driving it to the limit without electronic aids it’s so simple: it goes in a very short time from understeer to oversteer and, thanks to the electric motor, it has a recovery that makes it very snappy and lively, definitely fun! To have the maximum yield from our Pirelli P1 you need to have a cleaner line. It is a high-performance car that gives a lot of satisfaction and is an important piece of the future! “

Issue 40 - 2019 - www.thesmartclub.co.uk

# 9 VG: “The smart fan boost could prove to be important in the final count. My fans are so many they are really supporting me and they have to keep doing it! If it is not enough, I will get more points by winning the races on the track!” # 85 GdP: “In the first three races I have always won the silver medal, but unfortunately it was not enough to take the three points. It can certainly be the needle of the scale in such a tight championship. I always reach many likes, but unfortunately therefore, my appeal is this: if you don’t want to do it for me, at least do it for Chiara Lo Cascio of the R-Star of Palermo and for Chiara, my girlfriend, who commit themselves to every race in an exhausting way to share my big face so that you can click on it and like it! I thank all the R-Star customers who voted for me, all my friends and all those who will do it in the next races! “ # 7 LL: “The smart fan boost is a great tool that allows both to give greater visibility to the championship and to allow us drivers to interact with our fans. It allows fans to be an active part, protagonists of our season. 3 points the race is not just a few, so vote for the nicest driver: Longo di Novelli 1934! “ # 28 FF: “The fan boost is likely to become the real needle of the scale, soaring is not easy, maybe Vallelunga, the home race, will help me in this sense.” # 10 GC: “Unfortunately or fortunately the smart fan boost is an uncontrollable variable. For now it has not made the difference because the winners have been drivers not fighting for the championship. I hope it continues like this, because it would be a shame to lose a championship for a vote. As Team Rossi we are doing an excellent marketing campaign, but obviously there are those who are doing even better! Happy holidays and full electric - power! “

Vallelunga - Rounds 1 and 2 - 4th and 5th May

Following an exciting Race 1, the first of the 2019 season, Gianluca Carboni brought his first victory to Team Rossi in the spectacular ‘Race 2’ of the smart EQ fortwo e-cup held on the Vallelunga circuit. The rain and the inverted grid provided a huge spectacle and repeated upheavals at the front of the grid with the drivers busy managing the constantly changing levels of grip. After finishing seventh, Carboni , thanks to a spectacular manoeuvre on the outside, jumped from fifth to second place in one fell swoop. The decisive overtaking of the leader Azzoli came during the sixth lap and from then on the Team Rossi driver’s position was impregnable. Thanks to this victory, Carboni jumped to the top of the standings with the 2018 champion Fulvio Ferri. The fight for the podium was once again turned on and saw Vittorio Ghirelli (Mercedes-Benz Rome) and Giuseppe De Pasquale (RSTAR), having a long five-way battle with Fulvio Ferri (Team Merfina), Riccardo Azzoli ( Gino) and Alfonso Chiarini (Barbuscia). Starting eighth, Ferri spun in the early stages of the race and then quickly regained fourth place whilst also taking home the two points for the fastest lap. Azzoli, who jumped to the top of the race in the early stages of the race, then had to settle for a fifth final place after a couple of spins. The same fate for the leader of the race, Alfonso Chiarini, who commanded a perfect start but then went into crisis mode with his tyres. Marco Panzavuota quickly forgot his Race 1 performance of the previous day giving the Merbag Milano team the seventh overall position after a frantic comeback from the last grid position. Lorenzo Longo (Novelli 1934) confirmed his excellent form with another solid Top10 thanks to an eighth place result ahead of Michele Spoldi (Crema Diesel) in an exciting ‘photo finish’. Thanks to a tenth place position, Antoninò Cannavò gave F3 Motors the first victory in the Gentlemen’s category. The rookie Riccardo Longo (Paradiso Group) closed the first ever race of his career in sixteenth place taking home the victory in the Junior category while Silvia Sellani (Mercedes-Benz Rome) got the better of Alessandra Torresani (Bonera Group ) in the challenge for the Ladies ranking. After the first two events, Fulvio Ferri and Gianluca Carboni shared the lead of the championship with 45 points, while Vittorio Ghirelli and Giuseppe De Pasquale chase third on an equal footing at 36.

Misano - Rounds 3 and 4 - 18th and 19th May 2019 15 minutes of pure thrills. It is difficult to otherwise define the first of the two e-races of the Italian Alternative Energies Championship ACI Sport, the smart EQ fortwo e-cup staged at the Misano World Circuit. At the end of a fantastic battle that lasted from the first to the last lap, Fulvio Ferri (Team #Merfina) got the better of an exciting sprint finish by just 178 thousandths of a second on Riccardo Azzoli ( Team Gino) followed by Giuseppe de Pasquale (RSTAR Palermo), 8 tenths off. The start of the race, held on a wet track, saw Vittorio Ghirelli (Mercedes-Benz Rome Team) take the first position from pole and head to the top of the group fighting with Gianluca Carboni (Team Rossi) immediately behind, then Riccardo Azzoli and Michele Spoldi (Crema Diesel). Taking advantage of the battles on the track, De Pasquale and Ferri quickly caught up and began to recover their start positions. Azzoli and Carboni took turns leading the race in the early stages of the race while Ferri and De Pasquale quickly moved in behind them. In a whirlwind of position changes, the fight continued, interrupted only by the safety car being deployed following an accident between Franco Gallina (Team Funk) and Silvia Sellani (Mercedes-Benz Rome). Azzoli, Carboni, De Pasquale and Ferri repeatedly overtook each other until the last corner of the last lap when the reigning Champion went on to take the second win of the season that moved him to the top of the championship standings, with Azzoli second. Giuseppe de Pasquale took home the third consecutive bronze medal of this 2019 event ahead of Gianluca Carboni fourth. Fifth place for Pierluigi Capra (Team Venus) who held off Lorenzo Longo (Team Novelli 1934) and Michele Spoldi (Team Crema Diesel) all overtaken in the early stages by the leading group. Marco Panzavuota (Team Merbag Milan) had to settle for eighth place having recovered from a previous spin as he fought for fifth place, preceded by Christian Pigionanti (Team Merfina). Tenth place overall and victory in the National Ladies Cup for Alessandra Torresani (Team Bonera Group). The Junior National Cup went to Gianalberto Coldani, while Franco Gallina was the leader in the Gentlemen’s ranking. After the epic four-way race in Race 1, another exciting battle epitomised the second race of the weekend. Lorenzo Longo (Team Novelli 1934), with a spectacular manoeuvre on the last corner of the last lap got the better of Giuseppe De Pasquale (Team RSTAR Palermo), at the fourth podium in four races this 2019. At the start it was Marco Panzavuota (Team Merbag Milan) who took advantage of the start from the pole and took the lead, followed by a wild group composed of Michele Spoldi (Team Crema Diesel), Longo, Piergiorgio Capra (Team Venus), Gianluca Carboni (Team Rossi), De Pasquale , Vittorio Ghirelli (Mercedes-Benz Team Rome) and Alfonso Chiarini (Team Barbuscia). Even Riccardo Azzoli (Team Gino) was part of the fray, but the driver from Lazio was soon forced to ‘raise the white flag’ following contact in the very early stages of the race. On the second lap, Longo took command of the race, overtaking Panzavuota and then immediately tried to distance the group, slowed by the intense battle on the track. The final laps were ‘heart-pounding’ with the two drivers, both looking for the first success in the championship and overtaking eachother several times until the last corner, saw Longo attempting everything and, with a spectacular manoeuvre on the inside line, flew first under the chequered flag. “It was an incredible race, full of emotions and uncertain right to the end. The fight with De Pasquale was beautiful and in the end I risked it and it went well. I am overjoyed about this success, achieved amongst a field of such skilled drivers. I want to dedicate this victory to my son Giacomo, just born, and to thank Novelli 1934, the Genoa dealer who allowed me to be here today, and my father, without whose constant help all this would not have been possible “commented Longo under the podium. Giuseppe de Pasquale had to settle for the fourth podium finish in four races this year, a consistency of results that propels him to the head of the championship with four points ahead of Fulvio Ferri (Team Merfina) (although finishing ninth after serving a penalty). Vittorio Ghirelli completed an extraordinary comeback from the eleventh place on the grid until the third final place. Alfonso Chiarini finished in fourth place and preceded Spoldi at the finish line. The solid result for Antonio Tarasca (Team Rossi), only the second race in his career, brings him a convincing sixth place and is testimony to the rapid growth of the driver from the Marche. Alessandra Torresani (Team Bonera) took victory in the National Ladies Cup thanks to an excellent seventh place overall ahead of her rival Silvia Sellani (Mercedes-Benz Rome) who crossed the finish line in eighth place. Riccardo Longo, brother of the winner Lorenzo, gave the Paradiso Group Team the victory in the National Junior Cup with a convincing tenth position at the chequered flag. Arriving as a championship leader, Gianluca Carboni (Team Rossi) finished the race in third place, but was relegated to eleventh position due to an infringement at the start and will be on the starting line at Adria with 15 points to recover. Franco Gallina took home the victory in the National Gentlemen’s Cup thanks to the twelfth final position.

Adria - Rounds 5 and 6 - 6th & 7th July

It was a new high-voltage weekend with high adrenaline that saw the smart EQ fortwo e-cup brought to the stage at the Adria track. The gladiators of the Italian Alternative Energy Championship offered two spectacular races resulting in a Lorenzo Longo (Team Novelli 1934) triumph, the second consecutive victory in 2019 and ‘ruler’ of a thrilling Race1, Piergiorgio Capra (Team Venus), giving the Milanese dealer the first result of the year. The first race saw Longo, initially third on the grid, quickly take the lead ahead of Capra, Vittorio Ghirelli (Team Mercedes Benz Roma) and Nicola Baldan (Team Autocentauro) all competing for podium positions in some spectacular on-track action. The chequered flag saw Capra ahead of Baldan, who completed a beautiful comeback from sixth at the start, and Ghirelli. However, only the latter two retained their podium position with the Venus driver penalized by five seconds and moved to fourth. Fifth position, following an excellent drive, went to Alfonso Chiarini (Team Barbuscia) who had started 14th just ahead of Giuseppe Bodega (LPD Team) at the finish line. The sprint for the seventh position saw Michele Spoldi (Team Crema Diesel) get the better of Marco Panzavuota (Team Merbag), Christian Pigionanti (Team Merfina) and Tomas Denis Calvagni (Team Comer Sud) all covered by just over a second. The second race witnessed Capra’s swift redemption, springing from fifth on the grid and immediately attacking the leading group consisting of Panzavuota, Spoldi and Chiarini. On the second lap, Spoldi attempted to grab the lead by passing both Panzavuota and Chiarini – however this resulted in a multiple collision forcing the driver of the Diesel Cream Team to a premature retirement. The incident also saw the deployment of the safety car. With a manual restart, Chiarini took the lead and immediately established an important gap between himself and Capra in second. However, the Venus driver quickly closed the gap and took the lead. the drama continued witnessing a spectacular duel between the smart red of Barbuscia and the black smart supported by Venus, do over half a lap side by side. then, one lap from the end Capra regained the lead and went on to win his first victory of 2019, the second in his career. It was a cold shower for Chiarini who, passing second under the chequered flag was found guilty of causing the crash in turn 1 and was subsequently relegated to 16th position (+25 seconds). As a result, Vittorio Ghirelli and Giuseppe Bodega climbed the results table and landed podium positions in Race 2. Fourth place for Marco Panzavuota who preceded Giuseppe De Pasquale (Team RSTAR) who recovered from the unfortunate 13th Race 1. Adria was a complicated weekend for all the top three in the overall standings. Fulvio Ferri (Team Merfina), De Pasquale and Carboni in Veneto all collected very little compared to their expectations. Silvia Sellani (Mercedes Benz Roma) and Antonino Cannavò (Team F3 Motors) took home the victory in the Ladies Trophy and in the Gentlemen’s Trophy. Gianalberto Coldani won the Junior class in Race 2. After 6 races, Vittorio Ghirelli jumps to the top of the standings with 103 points, 9 points ahead of Giuseppe De Pasquale and 11 ahead of Lorenzo Longo.
