A MESSAGE FROM THE SGD CHAIR

Welcome to the 2022 Society of Garden Designers Awards Ceremony, the only Awards dedicated to celebrating excellence in garden and landscape design. We thank our Members for sharing their wonderful projects and many congratulations to our winners.

Each year the Awards reflect the artistry, imagination, technical and horticultural skills of our Members when designing and implementing gardens and landscapes for their clients. They demonstrate that, regardless of shifting ideas on aesthetics and evolving sensibilities, particularly with regard to people and the planet, the fundamental principles of garden and landscape design, practiced for thousands of years, continue to be applied successfully by accomplished practitioners in response to a client Brief.

The prestige of the SGD Awards is in no small part due to the integrity and expertise of our team of judges, who include acclaimed garden and landscape designers in the wider Industry. We thank you all for your care and time.

The continued success of the SGD Awards would not be possible without the generosity and support of our Industry sponsors. We are grateful and look forward to meeting you all at the Ceremony.

We are now almost two thousand Members, most of whom are specifiers. We cannot build gardens and landscapes for our clients without landscape contractors, suppliers, artisans and other professionals and specialists. Success in designing and building sustainable landscapes depends on us all working in collaboration. We hope that the newly launched SGD Affiliate Business Partnership will provide a vehicle for closer ties and networking with our Industry peers throughout the UK.

We are delighted to welcome again our Media Partner, Homes & Gardens. Their coverage of the Awards has undoubtedly contributed to the reputation of the SGD as the home of the most accomplished designers in the country. We are proud, this year, to be supporting our Charity Partner, Greenfingers, which supports children who spend time in hospices in the UK by creating specially designed, inspiring gardens for the children and their families.

For ten years, the winning combination of our events team at AMS and the PR duo that is Hind + Osen has undoubtably contributed to the distinction of the SGD Awards scheme. Our thanks go to them, to the Landmark Hotel and to all our guests.

To date we have created over 60 gardens in children’s hospices, and have a further waiting list of hospices that need our help now. Greenfingers is driven by the belief that time spent outdoors, can offer children and families under considerable stress a vital opportunity to embrace the benefits of being in the fresh air and engaging with the natural environment. Whilst many people may take for granted the simple pleasure of being able to enjoy a garden, for these children and families more so than ever the chance to spend time outdoors and away from the bedside is precious.
