About the artwork Bridge the Gap is one of my favourite works at the moment. I’m obsessed with the deepest darkest blues and blacks, and how they contrast with bold and intuitive marks of colour. What do you do when one canvas isn’t big enough? Join two together and go for it! What can I say about Bloomin’ Lovely? I love this painting! I started working on this canvas in Edinburgh last year, and since then she has had a long and adventurous journey home. Finally, she has revealed herself to be a blushing beauty. Full of texture, lush colours and joie de vivre! Mark in Time began as an exploration of Australian native foliage, at first in a bold and naïve style, then a softer more textured style and then finally everything loosened and out poured the wild and magical energy of the bush.

< Softly Softly Acrylic and mixed media on 300gsm watercolour paper 55 x 77cm Framed under glass in Tasmanian Oak $800

< Soften Your Gaze Acrylic and mixed media on 300gsm watercolour paper 55 x 77cm Framed under glass in Tasmanian Oak $800

About the artwork Softly Softly is another favourite! Painted en plein air at Wentworth Falls, in the Blue Mountains. I rarely work on paper, but this particular piece and Just a Glimpse had travelled with me all the way from Edinburgh and they were calling to be painted on. I love using these soft shades of pink, grey and yellow together, makes me think of the warm afternoon glow of the Autumn sun. Soften Your Gaze Just a Glimpse is another ode to Payne’s Grey, one of my favourite colours at the moment! It makes the most wonderful bush leaf green when mixed with white and yellow oxide. Again painted en plein air in Wentworth Falls, Just a Glimpse is inspired by the seemingly endless bush escarpment of the Blue Mountains.

^ Leap of Faith 121 x 84cm. Framed in Tasmanian Oak. Acrylic and ink on canvas $1300

About the artwork Leap of Faith, another bush painting, came from the last burst of energy I had whilst working on Bloomin’ Lovely and Mark in Time. I’m always pushing for one more mark on one more surface before I have to pack up my studio and go and collect my kids from school. The paint and ink flowed easily, creating ribbons of light and energy across the canvas.

^ Reflections by Cornelius Martin Mixed media on canvas 137 x 153cm $4940

^ Dust Mixed media on canvas 137 x 153cm $4940

the artist cornelius martin Born in a storm, restless ever since. Whilst adrift in an endless desert, I couldn’t keep the timeless space of this barren arid land at a distance. The unconventional mystic beauty and her organic chemistry was omnipresent. I was drawn into it, an illusion becoming a reality, a riddle of a sphinx, and in return, I painted it. Painting is a physical birth of imagination, a kinship resembling the sanctified character of the outback. My adventure of painting, an old language, was a spiritual transfer of the soul. It was an expression of my ‘watch time’, a visual dialogue, where words were reflected in colours, thoughts became surfaces, memories drawn as graphic lines. They were conceived through the transfiguration act of painting. About the artwork Reflections A mystic reflexion of a timeless mountain range in a lake. They look in their mirror forever in vain. Dust Your footsteps disappear, your memory erased. When the desert gets a face lift, you won’t find your past no more: it is a new beginning
