Workplace Wellness Power by Dr. Michael Mantell Ph.D.

Employers lose more than $300 billion of productivity due to these types of illnesses, absenteeism, lack of employees engaged in their work when they are working, and retention costs. Effective employee wellness programs may cut 25% of these overall costs. By nurturing employee wellness, The Sporting Club’s corporate partners report sizable benefits. Through their Workplace Wellness program, The Sporting Club is able to offer corporate partners and their employees exclusive membership rates, spa packages, nutrition programs, personal training,

to make correct choices to avoid illness.

When I refer to workplace wellness, I’m speaking about how the workplace can prevent, not manage, these largely preventable lifestyle illnesses. Wellness translates to the social, emotional, intellectual, physical, spiritual and occupational dimensions of our lives. The Sporting Club’s Workplace Wellness program recognizes that corporate wellness programs reduce absenteeism, increase employee productivity, keep people healthy and improve the health of those who need it. Workplace Wellness at The Sporting Club is all about

It’s prevention on stilts.

Healthcare costs are increasing, threatening the viability of companies of all sizes. Eighty-eight percent of health care spending is attributable to illnesses that are preventable. Companies spend about $602 per year per employee plus indirect costs such as overtime for covering missing employees, missed deadlines, lost sales, lowered morale, and decreased productivity.

fitness classes and much more. These special priced amenities and benefits are not only available to corporate member employees, but to their member dependents as well. By paying attention to your organization’s unique culture, resources and individual employee needs, The Sporting Club is able to develop a carefully constructed program specially tailored to your organization. The POWER HOUR that premium Sporting Club Workplace Wellness participants engage in include lunch time yoga, skincare essentials, core training, education for stretching in the workplace, and even a mini-bootcamp. Fitness, nutrition and healthy thinking bring results that save lives and money. It’s that simple. Doesn’t your company deserve these benefits? Now is the time to make the commitment of wellness to your employees.

in the fitness industry for 20

“You must believe that accomplishing your goal is possible. As long as you truly believe that you can reach your goals and objectives, you will. That belief in yourself and abilities is real. Tangible. It’s that belief that creates the passion that will drive you to willingly pay the price for your success.”

years. She began teaching aerobics in the heyday of spandex, legwarmers and Jack LaLanne health clubs. Members would often ask her for additional private training and she soon began her personal training career, almost by accident. “I had planned on going to law school, but fell in love with helping people achieve their [fitness] goals.” Working with people one on one had its benefits, but she still loved group fitness and began working with corporations to plan athletic events for their employees. She did this for seven years while working with the fitness department at the Marriott Corporation in downtown San Diego.

Steve served 23 years in the U.S. Navy, with 18 as a Navy SEAL. He was also a Navy SEAL Instructor in the Naval Special Warfare Physical Training Center in Coronado, California and trained the men in BUD/S who would go on to become SEALs. Steve understands what it means to take people to the edge

“I joined TSC over 2 years ago and having a personal trainer during this time has really helped me stay motivated and on track to better health. I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my cardio health. I hiked Cowles Mountain and reached the top, a personal goal of mine. I’ve also noticed an increase in my overall body strength. And I’m eating healthier too. I’ve been fortunate to train with some great trainers here at TSC including with my current personal trainer, Justine. I look forward to reaching even more goals this year!” - Anna Arroyo
